Am I the only human being who thinks Twitter is a bunch of cr%p? Although aptly named, twittering is just interwebs white noise.

you are not the only one

Ditto what ditto said. Is there a single tidbit of useful or interesting information in the excerpted tweets above?

Omg omg nom nommmmm!! yee!

Twitter = twaddle.

discourse on lobster rolls:

OMG STFU WITH THE LOBSTER ROLLS ALREADY!

are your lives so lame that lobster rolls are the main attraction of your Saturdays?

if you can't think of anything, a happy default are drugs. try drugs...try smoking them and/or inserting them orally (as opposed to the lobster rolls that you would otherwise be shoving down your fat jiggly jowels)...they're wayyyyyy more fun than lobster rolls.

BROWNSTONES 4EVA Y'ALL!

Best things of all times to Brownstoners: Twitter and Lobster Rolls!

I find twitter a very useful tool. For business especially. Out of all the"social networking" sites, it is by far the only one with much staying power. If you think it is silly, or not useful, you are doing it wrong.

wow king of the burg...you're like on the cutting edge or something. did you purchase web 2.0 for dummies last week?

ech, real estate agents give me the heeby jeebies. the ones with the fake perma-smiles...that's the worst.

Tweets from a Commercial Real Estate Appraiser?

I'll opt for the sharp stick in the eye instead, thank you.

Posted by: DitmasSnark at July 21, 2009 10:49 AM

at the risk of sounding like a moron. what exactly is a lobster roll?

The concept of tweeting (twittering?) is f#@king wrong on so many levels. This means a lot, coming from a self-absorbed yuppie douchebag like myself.

Posted by: heck_of_a_job_brownie at July 21, 2009 10:55 AM

Lets make this into a twittering idiots thread:

At the moment I'm looking out the window. There appears to be some precipitation. I'd better move that plant by the door before someone kicks it over. Do I really have to go to the gym today? I wonder whats for dinner. The cleaner missed those crumbs. I wonder if cockroaches run over the keyboard at night time. I think I might need to take a piddle. Nah, I'll hold on for another 5 mins.

How am I doing?

rob, that is my job. don't worry about it.

Well, many people like to receive tweets from a commercial real estate appraiser, especially other real estate professionals. On the same token, I for one gain valuable insight from other real estate professionals through twitter. The common misconception is that twitter is just a bunch of people updating a bunch of other people with random useless information. I find this contrary to my experience. I use it kind of like an RSS feed for news and it is great to find out what is going on locally. Also, it is a great marketing tool. You can reach a lot of specific people very easily. It took me a while to get on the twitter bandwagon, but I am glad I did.

admittedly I am only semi-aware of this Twitter thing
but this only reinforces my gut feeling that it is something
for twits.

Thanks for the explanation, kotb. A friend of mine is a big twitter evangelist, but I still have yet to find a desire or need for Twitter.

Posted by: DitmasSnark at July 21, 2009 11:52 AM

KOTB- I've been curious about it but there seems to be so many people using it for all the wrong reasons that it was a turnoff. I may look at it again tho'

the way to make it useful is to use a third party app like twhirl or tweetdeck. Then choose cool folks to follow:

For real estate stuff I follow the usual suspects: jonathan miller, the real deal, brownstoner, curbed, streeteasy and rebny. for local news i follow freedubya, and brooklynvegan. for national news I follow jaketapper and patkiernan, and for fun I follow mindykaling, robcorddry, and icecreaman.

None of these people use strange capital letters or talk about when they need to use the restroom.

Posted by: king of the burg at July 21, 2009 12:27 PM

that concludes my twitter cheerleading session.

Posted by: king of the burg at July 21, 2009 12:29 PM

DIBS is a flirt in tweeds

Posted by: dittoburg at July 21, 2009 1:13 PM

Props for standing up to a less than Twitter-friendly crowd, King. I'm still not convinced, but I'm glad it's working for you.

Posted by: heck_of_a_job_brownie at July 21, 2009 1:19 PM

I think KOTB actually nailed it pretty good
I am on the fence about tweeting - however I do see it's importance for certain things and obviously for spit-fire reporting....

The fish tacos were incredibly disappointing. I say here with a straight face that they were completely unremarkable and actually quite bland. WHat's all the fuss?
The missus said the lobster rolls were good.

I don't eat lobsters and I don't Tweet.
