According to one of the people sprucing up the old Barrette space on Vanderbilt, the forthcoming Mexican joint Pequena is shooting for a late-August opening. The exterior is already looking muy colorful.

Here's some free pointers:

1) Carry tequila and know how to make margaritas
2) don't charge 10-15 bucks for guacamole 'made tableside' - make good guac in the kitchen and charge a decent price.
3) employ servers who aren't douchebags.

So pretty much do the opposite of every other mexican joint in brooklyn.

I really loved the exterior of this place. The iron feathers were really inspired. I saw the new folks painting them yesterday. Too bad IMO.

Best of luck with the new venture. I wish it was La Super-Rica. I really crave their food, especially the homemade tortillas. If only it could be as good. I would be in heaven.

What a lovely storefront.

DH, this is the second Pequena's (the other is in Ft Greene) and the same owners as Moe's, Maggie Brown and Olea.

1. Happy hour is 2 for 1 fresh Margaritas.
2. The chips and Guacamole is $7.
3. Service is good.

This may spell death for the aptly named Los Muertos.

This is such good news. Pequena's food is fantastic, their margarita's are excellent, the prices are nice. And now it's only 2 blocks from my home. Love it!

Castro's is one of the most overrated restaurants in the city. I tried it a few times and can safely say it sucked.
