Prospect Heights Landmarking: The Video
In case you are still basking in the glow of last week's designation of the Prospect Heights Historic District by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the Municipal Art Society has put together this video about the process that led up to it. The all-star cast includes Francis Morrone, Tish James, Gib Veconi and LPC Chair Bob Tierney.

It is a great video.
I can't wait for the DVD release with all the extras: they filmed some shots of Tish hula-hooping, and interviewing my 6 year old daughter...
Tish: Do you like big buildings?
My daughter: Yes!
Me: Doh!

I love Francis Morrone's arm-waving mannerisms - on his walking tours he warns people to stand a few feet away in case he gets too enthusiastic!

Nice video.
It's the first time I've seen Councilperson James out and about. I would love to see the same energy devoted to fixing the deadly traffic accidents on Eastern Parkway & Underhill (top of PHeights) and on Eastern Parkway & Washington (near the Museum). Apparently, dozens of letters have been written...

Wow, theandrewlee, I see Tish in the neighborhood all the time. She works hard for Prospect Heights, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
Btw, you might want to bring your traffic concerns to either PHNDC (Gib Veconi in the video is a member and the current president is Danae Oratowski) -- www.phndc.org -- or to the Eastern Parkway Cultural Row Neighborhood Assoc --c/o Bob Witherwax (katerobwax@yahoo.com). The latter group has been very involved with efforts to renovate the Eastern Pkwy median. Both groups have access to Brooklyn DOT staffers.

Grand Army: As I understand things, the traffic issue will be fixed in 2012 as part of a median rebuild. To fix the problem now, it would only take a few speedbumps and a no left turn on red sign, but it won't happen for several years. By contrast, the PH historic designation and the median on Vanderbilt happened so fast. Maybe there are more stakeholders and homeowners there who pushed for it.
