Snappy, I will gladly be at Ellis Bar next Thursday. Thanks for setting it up. I'm a Virgo, BTW.

Alright, back to work...my boss has been encouraging me to bill more hours and has me totally freaked out. Miss you guys!

Posted by: jessibaby at July 30, 2009 9:23 AM

Yeah, I liked that too, Rob.

Posted by: Arkady at July 30, 2009 9:29 AM

JB, bill more hrs? you're a lawyer?

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 9:31 AM

wholefood lawyers would like to suppress those news reports and sue for spreading lies. else, they need to close up shop cause they would be selling regular stuff against stiffer competition

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 9:33 AM

M4L, you didn't know?

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 30, 2009 9:34 AM

Biffy, I remember you asked me about Ditmas Park Victorians before. Below is the link so you have a little idea of the size and inside of one.

Go to the featured listings and look at the first one for 1.275Mil. This is one of the smaller ones and a little bit off to prime Ditmas Park but should just give you the idea.

http://www.ditmasestates.com/

The inventory is fairly low apparently and I tried searching to find a better one to show you to no avail.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 30, 2009 9:36 AM

Kens, I assumed JB was in Finance working in a bank. Either way, I maintain "Great Catch" rating on JB

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 9:36 AM

M4L, I will need to borrow your targeted rating system at some point. I need to find me someone.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 30, 2009 9:37 AM

there is more to organic than health in humans. industrial farming is destroying the soil and leaks pesticides and herbacides into the ground water and elsewhere. also, buying organic is more likely (not always) to support a smaller farm that is more environmentally conscious. read the omnivore's dilemma, you might learn something.

Posted by: Return of Randolph at July 30, 2009 9:38 AM

Thanks Kens, I'll check it out.

Posted by: Biff Champion at July 30, 2009 9:38 AM

If this Weather keeps up, someone would need to build the ARK

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 9:39 AM

why are you asshats so excited about shitting on organic when you just read one article about it that is talking about one study and not looking at the big picture at all. jagoffs.

Posted by: Return of Randolph at July 30, 2009 9:39 AM

the study on organic foods is a throw-away. i dont know anyone who buys organic, doing so because they believe it has a higher nutrient value. EVERYONE i know talks about it in terms of chemicals, effects on land/water table, supporting smaller farmers. oh, and it actually does taste better in many cases.

Posted by: goldie at July 30, 2009 9:42 AM

Randolph is right, plenty of people buy organic to support organic farming so that DDT and agent organge aren't the first choice for killing the caterpillars

Posted by: dittoburg at July 30, 2009 9:43 AM

because the organic nazis annoy me, randi. and there is no reason it should be as expensive as it is. but there are lots of fools out there willing to part with their cash.

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at July 30, 2009 9:43 AM

I think organics give people dyspepsia too - turns them into sour personalities.

Posted by: Arkady at July 30, 2009 9:44 AM

thanks goldie. common sense goes a long way. sadly, people like rob have none. they are fueled by ignorance and spite. it is really sad.

yeah seriously randi. also it's almost 10am isnt it time for your estrogen shot? (do they make organic estrogen shots?)

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 30, 2009 9:50 AM

"because the organic nazis annoy me, randi. and there is no reason it should be as expensive as it is"

rob, the idea of organic nazis is your own. if you can;t deal with people having ideals and standing up for them i don't know what to tell you. and as for the price issue, why should FOOD be cheap? people have no trouble spending more money for a higher quality product- cars, stereos, BROWNSTONES...but when it comes to food it is all about how cheap it is. just look in the windows of any supermarket, 2 for 1 this, 99 cents a pound that. it is a sickness that we need to fix. what is more important every day than the food you put in your body, yet most people (like rob) think it should be cheap. it really makes no sense.

bxgrl- f off. it was obvious where this was going.

This "study" only looked at the nutritional benefits to us... They didn't look at pesticide residue... There is a big EU study coming out soon that proves otherwise.

*Rob* I can taste your fear.

Posted by: IMBY at July 30, 2009 9:57 AM

Really, randi? Then explain to me why a number of responses immediately were pro-organic? I realize you love thinking you're omniscient and so far above all of us but your intelligent and mature response to me just goes to show what you really are.

Posted by: bxgrl at July 30, 2009 9:57 AM

Biff,
I don't think Kens' listing is that representative of DP (maybe because of the bricked up porch). Here are some that I think are a bit more in keeping with the nabe.

Jessibaby + sixyearsandcounting on Ark.
Hope it doesn't take six years to get a baby. The What's predictions would be right. The world is doomed.

Posted by: Expert Textpert at July 30, 2009 9:59 AM

We're all worried about pesticides and such, but nature isn't always so kind to human beings. There are lots of creeping crawling things out there with germs and so on that pesticides are designed to kill. DDT saved millions of people from malaria, but was itself toxic. So basically, it's a tossup.

Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at July 30, 2009 10:02 AM

Ditto, you joining us next week in Ellis?

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 30, 2009 10:02 AM

"No good, 6yrs - past child-bearing."

Perfect. That means no more humans and then everything on earth would be organic.

Posted by: Biff Champion at July 30, 2009 10:02 AM

Nutritional benefits? is that what the study was about?? What a waste of time and money that study was! Why did they even bother? Whose hypothesis was it that the nutrition was any different? Why would anyone expect it to be? grrrrr

Posted by: dittoburg at July 30, 2009 10:03 AM

The entire organic argument is absurd. Of course we want to make food affordable to starving people & of course we want to help the environment. As science advances the goals can become congruent. But to vilify technology is as asinine as arguing that birth control interferes w/ nature or god - o.k., then, stop saving sick babies w/ antibiotics - let them die the way nature intended. The point, Randi, is to find a happy & sustainable medium.

Posted by: Arkady at July 30, 2009 10:04 AM

"Yes, Randi, good food should be affordable. Nothing wrong with that. Organic isn't affordable for lots of people!"

ok, six, then tell me how it is that people (poor people included) have found a way in their budgets for cable tv, internet and cell phones (things that weren't part of almost everyone's lives 10 years ago) but couldn't find a way to afford slightly more expensive organic food that is better for the environment and farmers? if people have found a way to spend and extra $50-100 per month on certain luxuries, why not with food? the problem is cultural- people just don't care enough about their health and the health of the planet.

i am surprised buy the ignorance of some PLUSAs.

Posted by: Return of Randolph at July 30, 2009 10:05 AM

only folks who grew up in Mid-American states can get into the Ark. Need their farming skills. So no PLUSA qualifies here.

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 10:05 AM

Can you imagine the children of two PLUSAs on an ark? In the new world they'd think Mr. B was God, and there were angels and devils called PLUSAs. Of course we all know who would be the Satan figure!

Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at July 30, 2009 10:06 AM

dittoberg- then in your quest to find useless studies I'm assuming you missed the one a few years ago that studied how cats mate? :-) (there really was)

Posted by: bxgrl at July 30, 2009 10:06 AM

Randi - Use that same argument to people w/o running water & electricity - they just have t.v.s & computers for show. I'm afraid your early nutrition must've included some really toxic ingredients.

Posted by: Arkady at July 30, 2009 10:07 AM

Ah yes, Randi, if only you could educate all those poor people about their poor choices, the world would be saved!

That said, I'm off to experience non-organic technology at the doctor's office. See you all later!

Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at July 30, 2009 10:08 AM

Like platonic, I thought organic was a relationship you have with an organ donor.

When discussions dip into ad hominem rants it means the perpetrator has run out of reason (a.k.a. going insane.)

Remind me, does P of PLUSA stand for perpetual or pathetic?

Posted by: dittoburg at July 30, 2009 10:16 AM

The problem really lies in that all farming (organic as well) has been industrialized, hence the push for buying local - it's really more about buying from local small farmers than it is about buying organic.

Posted by: gemini10 at July 30, 2009 10:17 AM

Actually it's both. Buy organic to reduce the flow of toxins into your body and the ecosystem. Buy local to reduce your carbon footprint.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at July 30, 2009 10:41 AM

FWIW, the organic study ignored pesticides and antibiotics effect on food for human consumption and it ignored the impact of the differing farming techniques on the environment.

I'm not completely sold on organics, but I think the pesticide issue and environmental issues are important to consider. I'm not sure about the antibiotics, but this is due to ignorance on my part.

I don't eat entirely organic, but my son does...

Rob
actually farms are kinda fun and I dont mean buying your corn from some hipster up in the bronx silly.

Look before like 1958, the entire country was made up of SMALL farms growing whatever they can. It wasn't until the dawn of the "supermarket" in combination with long-haul refridgerated trucking did we see the creation of these big farms servicing large supermarkets. Now take that and add the development of suburban sprawl along with decades of "super-farms" lobbying govt for incentives and subsidies and you get what we have today... - not a pretty picture

Posted by: gemini10 at July 30, 2009 10:49 AM

You could have one each of a gay guy & girl & use artificial insemination. The ark was said to hold around the same amount of space as 550 railroad cars but you have to take into account all the food needed for animal species which cuts down on space - maybe nowadays it woul be kitted out w/ a few lab technicians & just genetic samples of all the critters. (And I doubt that would be organic & certainly not local.)

Posted by: Arkady at July 30, 2009 10:57 AM

ditto true true. i have a funny memory involving aersol cans though. when i was a kid for a few years i lived directly across two huge senior citizens buildings. there was a death at least once a week and they would oftentimes discard the person's entire belongings out near the dumpsters, i guess what relatives didnt take or something. and most of the time it was stuff like cleaning products and knick knacks and random crap. i used to go to the dumpsters with my friends and we'd spray every single can of whatever. looking back that could NOT have been good. im talking like hair spray, oven cleaner, air freshener. terrible terrible hahah. i probably have mutant DNA now because of it. god did right making me gay!

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at July 30, 2009 10:57 AM

Lucrative Fees May Deter Efforts to Alter Loans

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/30/business/30services.html?_r=1&th&emc=th

Even when borrowers stop paying, mortgage companies that service the loans collect fees out of the proceeds when homes are ultimately sold in foreclosure. So the longer borrowers remain delinquent, the greater the opportunities for these mortgage companies to extract revenue — fees for insurance, appraisals, title searches and legal services.

You know something? I was thinking- the Case Killer Index for New York is off -12% YOY right. I remember The Jackasses pumping Real Estate last year (DIBS) and the question is How many people are underwater right now who brought a year ago (Pre Lehman).

If you believe that your buying ""organic" Fruits and Vegetables, You're Retarded! The Supermarkets saw the Jackasses coming so they printed up a bunch of "Organic" and "Green" posters and labels and slap them everywhere! The Retards believe the hype and pay MUCH MUCH more for this fraud! The cost of growing "Organic" foods is sky high! What no pesticides, then you will have bugs in your food! Most food is genetically modified.

Snark, I live on Clinton Ave and from my window, every hood within sight line seem to be below it - including what portions of Sunset Park that I can see. Plus there's so many churches in Clinton Hill adds to it being an optimal location for the Ark

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 11:55 AM

"Kens, of course the ARK will be docked, loading, & floating from Clinton Hill - which I believe has the highest elevation among the BK hoods"

Actually, wouldn't that be by soldier's memorial (near Leonard Bernstein) in Green-Wood Cemetery? Although there's not much water around there to keep the SS PLUSA afloat.

Perhaps, given the contingent of Commonwealth types around here, we should rename the vessel the HMS PLUSA.

Agreed. I vote for a Mid-century Modern vibe. Teak furniture, grasscloth wallpaper and Nelson bubble lamps throughout.

Kens, shouldn't we just build it in one of the dry docks at the Navy Yard?

Biff, I just checked the chart for mkt today and notice it started giving back some of the gains when you started posting.

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 11:59 AM

Can we use the widget to estimate what this thing's going to cost? Rather than the standard 1.20 multiplier to adjust to reality, we might need to apply a multiplier of 2.50 given typical cost overruns of new projects.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 30, 2009 12:12 PM

Wish I had had the time to read this before now.

I suggest all you non-organic-food folk 1) see Food Inc. (don't expect to eat dinner after;) 2) read Omnivore's Dilemma. The former may be polemic but hard-hitting, the latter is controlled and persuasive.

Anyone who can afford organic but does not buy it is being either perverse or has a capacity for extreme denial.

1-Factory farmed food is unbelievably cruel and inhumane. Imagine never being able to sit, to turn, to be standing in your own feces, to be shot full of antibiotics and hormones in your brief horrible life. And we eat this s**t.

2-Factory farmed food is fattier. Full of hormones. Full of antibiotics. None of which is good for you.

3-Industrial farming puts small farmers out of business...ok you can claim the free market is at play.

4-The patenting of life (seeds, etc) results in more farmers being in thrall to agri-business. They can't even replant last year's crop. And this is spreading to countries iike India; the bio-diversity of the locals is being raped for profit.

I don't expect to change any minds (my own friends are closed-minded on this issue, I've given up; thankfully my son is organic-aware) but at least be aware.

CGar, do you remember about 10 years ago some Bear Stearns partner was arrested because he kept some guy locked up in a cell that he had constructed in some Park Ave penthouse!!!!!????

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 30, 2009 2:36 PM

"Whose baggy's wrinkled?"

He must be referring to your parachute pants, Biff.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at July 30, 2009 2:37 PM

shall we change the name from PLUSAS to bilge rats?

Posted by: dittoburg at July 30, 2009 2:37 PM

Do any of you PLUSAs actually have a boat??? Sail or motor???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 30, 2009 2:39 PM

haha - thanks snark/cg!!

we should just anchor the ark above prospect park and call it "ark slope"

Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 30, 2009 2:40 PM

Hoo-ray! The gays like us DH!! This is gonna be the best ark ever!!

Posted by: cobblehiller at July 30, 2009 2:41 PM

No worries DH, we'll have 'em build the ark and pay for it, then we'll jack it Brooklyn style! I may or may not have a friend who specializes in those kinds of things. I think he still have a couple of years left on his sentence.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 30, 2009 2:42 PM

hey I feel left out too! can I be on the gay ark? I know several gay people who are actually jealous of my decorating abilities.

Posted by: herkimermaid at July 30, 2009 2:44 PM

ROFL, DIBS! I don't remember that, and I just tried the Google, but all I could find were the 2 hedge fund execs arrested last year.

Then, I remembered that [Insert Name of Major TARP Recipient] monitors our email and web site visits, so now I'm wondering if I'll be busted for searching "bear partner arrest bondage cell cage"!!

Posted by: CarrollGardened at July 30, 2009 2:45 PM

Will there be any "f words" from the ghetto allowed on the ark??

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 30, 2009 2:46 PM

haha fo sho chiller!

the other ark will be boring - they'll be talking about the mutant asset bubble and bulls vs bears even though there are no more homes left!

Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 30, 2009 2:46 PM

Ark Production has been farmed out to the illegal immigrants who came in with the best price quote and their references are super solid. They also said, they don't need to be on it since they plan to go home when its flooded here

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 2:48 PM

I am switching the ark subject for a bit...

THL, the dyker heights mansion is hilarious thread. How did you ever remember about that?

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 30, 2009 2:48 PM

Haha Kens - or we can boost it Jack Sparrow style like in 'Pirates of the Carribean'

Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 30, 2009 2:48 PM

herk, (a) of course you're welcome on the Gay Ark; and (2) despite volunteering for the Ark Decorating Committee, decorating is actually NOT among my OGTs, so I'm sure I'd be jealous too.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at July 30, 2009 2:49 PM

Psssst, CGar, invite DIBS onto your ark, he's got some really good wine and nice china! ; )

Posted by: cobblehiller at July 30, 2009 2:53 PM

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 30, 2009 2:58 PM

DIBS is providing deck hands right? Open up your rolodex and see who falls out. I'll arrange auditions.

Cgar - I'll handle decor. I thought you were writing the mission statement. For the love of god, the apocalypse is 91 days away and we don't have a mission statement!

Snappy!

Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 30, 2009 2:59 PM

DIBS, 6-0 7th inning; looks like 5th in a row is in the bag. key is that would be 3 in a row against the wild card leader

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 3:00 PM

does anyone know of a program in nyc that takes perfectly working and new-ish cell phones for domestic abuse victims and families in the shelter system? i vaguely remember hearing about this lately. (last week i lost my phone and i stupidly went out and bought a new one only to have my old one returned to me an hour after i set up my new one.) so i think im just going to donate my old one instead of having it sit in a drawer.

Rob, Ellis Island is a wonderful place to visit, but they don't have a great wine and beer selection. Plus, you will likely get lost looking for the ferry (and by ferry, I'm not talking about the gay Ark). You might prefer to join us at Ellis Bar.

Posted by: Biff Champion at July 30, 2009 3:28 PM

Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 30, 2009 3:29 PM

DIBS, it's official - 5 in a row (7-0 shut out). I smell 6 in a row cause Rockies bullpen is taxed (had to bail out starter after 1 & 1/3 innings). Not saying we'll catch the champs but wild card is a ton closer in sight

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 3:29 PM

BEA YOURSELF
An LES Bea Arthur Tribute

Nothing draws a crowd like a Bea Arthur tribute, so the nostalgists at Mason Dixon are devoting this Friday night to the fallen Golden Girl, with Arthurian screenings, interpretive reenactments of a few historic performances and a beer-and-vodka cocktail dubbed Bea Arthur's Underpants. Posted by: WonTon at July 30, 2009 4:00 PM

I've been away (not Awaye) all day and am just now catching up, but I want to briefly return to this whole organic/local thing:

1. Buying local is not necessarily better for the environment (http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/02/25/080225fa_fact_specter) since you need to take into account factors such as type of soil, fertilizer, water use, etc.

2. If cmu had his way on a global scale - no industrial farming, no genetic modification for drought-resistance, etc., no pesticides to keep undesirable germs and so on out of our crops - it would really mean the death of lots and lots of people. Fewer crops would survive, thus shrinking the food supply. That whole "Green Revolution" really did work.

Again, nature is full of stuff that's bad for you. So are man-made products. Life is full of tradeoffs - we don't live in a perfect world and never will.

Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at July 30, 2009 4:00 PM

Some odd stuff about this guy in his Wiki entry:

"In his retirement Lee became the first former president of a country known to participate in cosplay. The cosplay was centered on Heihachi Edajima (江田島平八 Edajima Heihachi), a hawkish principal of a boarding school in the Japanese manga Sakigake!! Otokojuku (魁!!男塾) (Shonen Jump). His cosplay interest and eponymous "school" called "輝!李塾" was mentioned on his personal website, beginning in late 2004. This manga comic was a comedy centered on a fictitious reform school for contemporary boys, modelled under the Imperial Japanese Army."

as for the genetic crap, jury's out. we're breeding new antibiotic-reistant bugs and no doubt there'll be side effects of transgen foods.

Scarlett- Yes, but...before she lost all the weight. She looked better when she had the curves recently she looks very generic skinny actress. Blah.

DH, if you're planning to have kids, 38/40 runs the risk of being too late. 33 to 35 is more of a safe bet. Of course, 18 is even safer.

Posted by: mopar at July 30, 2009 4:40 PM

As pointed out I prefer south of the border, or far east of the border perhaps. I know Gisele is meant to be Brazilian, but she obviously has too many Bundchen genes.

Adriana Lima is hot.

DH, when I hear Longoria now, I think of that stud on the Rays' team

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 4:41 PM

THL I know Chriqui is Canuck (from Motreal nonetheless) but her rents are Moroccan Jews. She is a tribe member and the sexiest Jew that I've ever seen.

Mendes is Cuban, with equates to hubba hubba. Also when I hear colombian accents - Shakira, I am ready to climb walls :o).

I gather that Ditto is taken so no competition for me.

"but the most important thing is whether you want to treat animals in a disgusting and cruel way in order to affor your 16oz steak."

I don't have time to look up your other claims, but really? Which is more important - treating animals nicely, or providing food for humans? Of course it's possible to do both, but the latter is by far more important.

Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at July 30, 2009 4:44 PM

DH, don't plan. When you find the one that's when it'll happen. I found mine later. Some people find the one much earlier. If I'd have been planning or scheduling I might have married the first one that asked and been miserable.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at July 30, 2009 4:44 PM

Ditto, hunting with the eyes are fine. I'm married, have child, and as long as it's lookie lookie and no quickie quickie, it's fine

"and no doubt there'll be side effects of transgen foods."

Why - do you expect genetic transfer to occur?

Do you expect to go green and leafy after eating the millions of lettuce genes in a leaf of Romaine?

Oh ...that sort of hunting. I'm a regular Teddy Roosevelt.

Posted by: dittoburg at July 30, 2009 4:47 PM

Well I know my husband is very happy Chriqui's been written back into the Entourage storyline. Personally I think her character Sloan is a little conceited and obnoxious but yeah, she's gorgeous.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at July 30, 2009 4:48 PM

Theres that girl who works in the drugstore too. I think shes Dominican. Shes hot. And that girl walking down Brighton beach in the bikini in that pic posted on Brownstoner oh so long ago.

Posted by: dittoburg at July 30, 2009 4:50 PM

Gem I saw that same pic on DListed the other day. Disgusting huh? She needs a little bit of fat on her limbs. She's got no buffer between her skin and her bones and muscle. It's gruesome.

dipster is true. it's much better to have children from a fresh egg (xx - 24) than an older egg. i feel like the people ive known who came from an older egg are just very strange as adults. tho, maybe times have changed, i don't know. breed at your own risk.

I'm making such a fashion faux pas. I forgot to bring my nice casual shoes to work and only have my (clean) hipster-esque Converse Chuck Taylor's. I also have jeans.

Dilemma is I have a nice black long sleeve casual shirt and a t shirt here. I wanted to wear the long sleeve shirt as it's nicer but that can't possibly match with Converse Chuck Taylor's, right?

WHERE ARE MY GAY PLUSA PEEPS TO HELP ME OUT!!

Posted by: Biff Champion at July 30, 2009 4:59 PM

g10, why not buy it around mid town where you are?

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 4:59 PM

Umm Ditto and M4L, pics of the discussed girl please. I wasn't on here at that time so I need to review and concur.

I am outta here too! Peace.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 30, 2009 5:00 PM

g10, itouch is much much better than the nano - if the size diff is not an issue.

Posted by: more4less at July 30, 2009 5:01 PM

Biff it may work if you wear the black shirt but you HAVE to roll the cuffs till your elbows. Then you'll slide with the clean Chuck Taylor/jeans look.

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 30, 2009 5:03 PM

Are you going somewhere or just walking home Biff?

Posted by: TownhouseLady at July 30, 2009 5:07 PM

Biff, I'm sorry to let you down, and I realize I'm an embarrassment to my people, but fashion, too, is not one of my OGTs.

(This is usually the point where my friends ask me if I'm sure I'm not straight.)

Posted by: CarrollGardened at July 30, 2009 5:08 PM

"Biff it may work if you wear the black shirt but you HAVE to roll the cuffs till your elbows. Then you'll slide with the clean Chuck Taylor/jeans look."

Kens, I almost always roll up the sleeves on a casual shirt. I think I'm heading for a fashion disaster.

"Are you going somewhere or just walking home Biff?"

THL, you think I really care how I look if I'm walking home? I mean I do try and make a good impression for the tourists on the bridge, but really! I wouldn't be worried about looking funny for them.

Posted by: Biff Champion at July 30, 2009 5:09 PM

"ENY...who's this Tionna Smalls jackass who writes: "The point is it was past 1 a.m. and he should be working on something like fixing the state economy," said Smalls. "He's embarrassing black people. Maybe that's why they don't want black people in office."

I don't know Tionna, but i'm a little less upset than when I first posted this. I mean, the guy SHOULD be able to hang out like anyone else. It's just ironic that he's making the scene while the state government crumbles (or, as it continues to crumble). He's been a really poor performer as governor. But that's not surprising since Elliot Spitzer was the one who picked him as a running mate. Patterson just stinks, black or white.

Posted by: East New York at July 30, 2009 5:09 PM

If you go with the black shirt don't tuck it in and for the love of god, do NOT wear a belt.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at July 30, 2009 5:09 PM

CGar, you like Angelina Jolie and you know nothing about fashion. Don't tell me you also never liked Judy Garland??

Posted by: Biff Champion at July 30, 2009 5:10 PM

i have negative associations with sean connery because my mom looooves him and i was forced to see all the james bond movies from too early an age. actually i only remember roger moore, but my mom loooooves sean connery thus he is a sexless being and i must not see him in a weird red nuthugger.

Posted by: CG_ups at July 30, 2009 5:11 PM

I'm relieved to know that Biff. Your hot dude factor would have dropped considerably if you'd just been going home.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at July 30, 2009 5:12 PM

"I think I'm heading for a fashion disaster."

I think you gotta hit the streets and get some cool shoes. NOW. Chuck Taylors?? Ehh.

Posted by: East New York at July 30, 2009 5:13 PM

"I wanted to wear the long sleeve shirt as it's nicer but that can't possibly match with Converse Chuck Taylor's, right?"

OK, Biff, I don't want to let you down, so I visualized the outfit, and, depending of course on exactly which Chuck Taylor's you have, I see no reason the black shirt and jeans won't work with the Chuck T's.

Posted by: CarrollGardened at July 30, 2009 5:13 PM

"weird red nuthugger"

You mean you don't like the Depends Barbarian Collection?

Posted by: TownhouseLady at July 30, 2009 5:14 PM

"CGar, you like Angelina Jolie and you know nothing about fashion. Don't tell me you also never liked Judy Garland??"

It's Jennifer Aniston I'm into, not Angelina. I have issues with Angelina. (For another day.)

I confess I've never cared for Judy (or Liza. or Cher. or Bette's OK sometimes.) I told you I'm an embarrassment to my people! Do I get NO points for Bea Arthur though?

ha! me too. i dont think it's a bad thing. i sorta don't like how most gay people dress anyway. and lately it's become even way more too femme.

Screw Judy. Screw Liza.

I'm going to see Grace Jones tonight.

Posted by: DitmasSnark at July 30, 2009 5:21 PM

"I see no reason the black shirt and jeans won't work with the Chuck T's."

Don't listen Biff. Remember, by his own admission his fashion taste is impaired. Clothes make the man. Go shopping!

Posted by: East New York at July 30, 2009 5:21 PM

"If you go with the black shirt don't tuck it in and for the love of god, do NOT wear a belt."

THL, I never tuck in a casual shirt. But no belt? Uh oh...
I usually wear one just because my jeans don't always stay up (re-write?) but you can't see it anyway under my shirt.

CGar, thanks for the advice, but I don't know if I can trust fashion advice from a gay dude who doesn't like Judy Garland or Cher.

Posted by: Biff Champion at July 30, 2009 5:24 PM

M4l - kinda being lazy. I want to rush off to the gym now, not stop into the Apple zoo on 57th street
Target - Rob good idea - also I think radio shack
oh not sure she can handle the "touch"

Later guys - am off tomorrow in Lawn Guyland!

Posted by: gemini10 at July 30, 2009 5:24 PM

Damn, ENY, really? But even if I go buy some new ones, I would have to shlep around the ones I brought to the store and I don't have a man purse to carry them in.

Posted by: Biff Champion at July 30, 2009 5:26 PM

ROFL, rob and ENY!

What can I tell you, Biff? In case you couldn't tell, I've been relying on The Preppy Handbook to get dressed since c.1982, and Ralph Lauren is my God!

Posted by: CarrollGardened at July 30, 2009 5:27 PM

Rob, it's not just the egg, it's the sperm too.

DH, sorry I missed you. I wanted to say: We tried Motorino the other night. Very good, very pleasant sitting outside. But -- one of the top four restaurants in NYC? Are you crazy!? Obviously there's no room in that category, what with Barrio Chino, El Almacen, and probably 50 others I can't afford and haven't tried.

Posted by: mopar at July 30, 2009 5:35 PM

"I would have to shlep around the ones I brought to the store and I don't have a man purse to carry them in."

Leave them in the office! You can bring a messenger bag (i.e., man purse) to work tomorrow and pick them up then. I hate to think of you walking around in an otherwise dignified manner only to look down and see you wearing CHUCK TAYLORS! Ugh. The only way it could be worse is if you wore those plastic clog-type shoes everyone wears, which I hate.

Posted by: East New York at July 30, 2009 5:38 PM

ENY, I'm with you! I hate Crocs. See, I have some good fashion sense!

Posted by: CarrollGardened at July 30, 2009 5:42 PM

Sweet Mopar - yeah Motorino is pretty great. I forget, did I say Motorino was top 4 restaurants in NYC? If so I retract that statement!

I think pizza snobs are all in agreement that it's top 5 pizza joints in the city (and they are taking over one of the top 5, so top 3 perhaps?) I dunno - I haven't met a slice of pizza I haven't liked haha.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 30, 2009 5:46 PM

"ENY, I'm with you! I hate Crocs. See, I have some good fashion sense!"

OK, you definitely get points for that in my book!

Posted by: East New York at July 30, 2009 5:47 PM

ahhhh, top five pizza joints! That makes sense.

You know what's weird, though? I actually love Bacci & Abracci's brunch pizza (the one with the guancale, tomato, and egg) even more. Poor Bacci & Abracci. They are so good, but they don't get any love. In fact, we haven't been there for a few months. I hope they are busy.

Posted by: mopar at July 30, 2009 5:54 PM

Yeah - Baci has pretty good pizza too. I haven't had the brunch pizza though. I'm actually ordering from them right now for dinner! I don't know how they manage to deliver everything and keep it so freakin hot!!

Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 30, 2009 5:57 PM

Please, What, tell us what is going to happen.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 30, 2009 1:26 PM

Dear Dave the finance guy, This is what is going to happen: There are still more financial bubbles up in the air (banking schemes and scams). When one more of these bubbles pops it will set off a chain reaction of other bubbles, also up in the air. Meaning it will not just be one bubble, to hit one other bubble; but a multiplied effect. Some bubbles depend on others for support. When one goes, many others may go. Wasn't that taught in finance school? Maybe you did not go to the school of such a crooked economy as exists today.

About 3 months ago it was predicted that this would happen in about 6 months (predicted albiet by the "gloom and doomers", nevertheless, the "gloom and doomers" also predicted the sub-prime mortgage fiasco). So let us prepare for the worst and pray the big collapse does not happen.

We don't want to think about this or talk about it much. Too horrible.

Love ya, Dave, and love the What too.

"Which is more important - treating animals nicely, or providing food for humans? "

a society is known by the way it treats its weakest, including animals...Gandhi

If you think feeding people at the expense of ill-treating animals is ok, I feel profoundly sorry for you.

Posted by: cmu at July 30, 2009 10:36 PM

cmu- I do agree. Seems to me there is no reason to treat animals cruelly- we certainly have the means and the technology to set up facilities that are humane. Whether we have the morality is another story.

Posted by: bxgrl at July 30, 2009 10:47 PM

DH, I had no idea Baci delivered. You have all the fun in Williamsburg!

On the topic of more bubbles -- weren't there reports today that AIG is going down?
