DH and 11217, wine lover totally outed himself last night on the RE agents thread: "So, when I invested in Wburg in 2006, I felt pretty confident, and still do." He seems to feel the need to talk up his neighborhood to preserve his investment. Not that I don't like Williamsburg, but's his completely uncritical attitude that gets me.

ah gotcha sixyears. yeah, tough break for them re: buying in 2006. yeah, wine lover loves everything in williamsburg - even the really bad stuff. all credibility is lost when you say Kellogg's Diner is "average at best" - then go into a paid advertisement for Dumont :(

Kens, tickets are not sold out yet?
Posted by: more4less at July 29, 2009 9:41 AM
Dirty H - are you starting a blog? do tell.
Kens - I think one of the first CD's I ever bought was depeche mode, that and nirvana! And I think one of the first tapes I ever bought was george michael..ha ha! I used to love him. What about you?
Posted by: bodhi_brooklyn at July 29, 2009 9:43 AM
RSS is a web feed mechanism. basically you set up a page that will aggregate news/stories/updates from all your fave sites in one place instead of hopping around to all of them independently.
b.stoner has rss link at top

bodhi, definitely Depeche Mode and Nirvana fan from back in the day. That was my high school phase. First tape I ever bought was in my junior high Hip Hop phase so it was Dr. Dre.
Before that, I listened to sister's tapes which were a lot of Beatles, Scorpions and Eagles (what can I say, they were popular in the Russian American community).
Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 29, 2009 9:53 AM
Uh-oh! Asshats, I may only be able to attend the gathering next week for an hour. BH and I are going to the Hall & Oates thing out at Coney Island! [LOL!]
Posted by: cobblehiller at July 29, 2009 9:54 AM
Dave, is Depeche Mode big in the "f word" community? Never knew that.
M4L, I sometimes have hook ups to these concerts so might go to the show and wondered if any PLUSAs are going to be there.

Kens - Dr Dre! He was the best. I have an older sister too, but she was more into Robert Smith from the Cure and Public Image Limited, stuff like that. Though I think the first record she and I fought over was Xanadu, LOL! olivia newton john was my hero.

etson, you have your winner! sis is a smart cookie. One thing you can't argue with her is Math. Trust me on this one :o).
I stay out of the statistical discussions since I don't believe that you can price real estate that you purchase to live in in terms of standard deviations/means and mediums (different strategy goes for real estate as an investment). We had these discussions here over and over again. As long as emotions are involved in purchases of a place where you are spending part of your life (whether its a large or a small part of your life), most math goes out of the window.

Hall & Oates by far was one of the best groups of the 80's - their style really set a bar for good R&B - everyone loved them!

I don't have the time, patience, or certain other requisites to stay long on this thread or any other. But since you're talking about 80s music, don't miss the "rainstorm" in the opening minutes of a Slovenian choir's performance of Toto's "Africa" (could easily skip the remainder of the performance): http://tinyurl.com/m3nbmp

I love how you get all weepy when I say anything about you- yet you spent yesterday calling MM stupid and insulting a number of other people with obscenities. But you think you deserve a pass? I'm sure I'm dating myself (as usual), but there are some great old Hall & Oates songs. I have at least She's Gone and Rich Girl on my iPod. And, not that it has anything to do with their music, but John Oates and I used to live in the same building in the West Village.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 29, 2009 12:08 PM
If there's a Hall and Oates revival, how can a Hooter's revival not be sure to follow?
Depeche Mode, I saw at Jones Beach during the Black Celebration tour. My friend lost her virginity to one of their roadies in the stairwell of the Marriott while I argued with Dave Gahon and Andrew Fletcher at the hotel bar about why their music had no guitars. Until they fled from my drunkass jailbait self. Eventually, after searching several floors, I found my friend looking for her underwear in Andrew Fletcher and the roadie's room. The trains were no longer running so we had to take a cab back to Manhattan. It cost $50, which was pretty much my entire life savings at the time. My friend had to attend a Quaker work camp in DC the next day so two hours after we got back, we were back on trains again. I haven't been to Jones Beach since and can no longer stand the taste of a Long Island Iced Tea.

Posted by: Biff Champion at July 29, 2009 12:35 PM
Yes, Kensingtonian. Centuries ago, ritual roadie defloweration was a rite of passage right up there with permanent hair curling, marlboro light smoking, black leggings and peach wine cooler-drinking.
Since leggings have been back for a while now, one can only assume the rest is soon to follow.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 29, 2009 12:39 PM
Dave, I actually lost mine outside at a NJPIRG retreat at a summer camp in Port Jervis, NY... but I agree, the stairwell sex thing was impressive. There is more to the story, but it's kind of gross and has to do with feminine hygiene so I decided not to share.
Anyways, whenever anyone brings up Depeche Mode, I can't help but remember all of this. I saw a lot of other bands throughout the years, but never again had an experience quite the same.

Hola PLUSAs! Ellis has been officially forewarned that the PLUSAs will be descending on them Thursday, August 6th begining at 6pm. I will need to provide them with a rough head count soon, so all who plan to make it, say "Aye!" They are willing to cordon off a section of the bar exclusively for PLUSA use and I've been assured that Thursday nights are replete with drink specials. As a side note, since this is a B-Day PLUSA bash...I have amassed small 'B-Day toy bags' for everyone!

has anyone ever been to Melt on Bergen in Park Slope? I've eaten there a number of times over the past year, and have a special liking for their kobe beef burger with fries...I had dinner there last night and they got new owners. The menu has changed and there are no more fries and the burger was below average, at best!! Needless to say I was pretty disappointed. I just wanted to say RIP to the burger and fries at Melt, I will miss you.

cobble, I've been secretively organizing a coup d'etat and there will be new rules. However, similar to "Pirates of the Caribbean," they're not really rules but more like guidelines.

Our hierarchy is arcane & protean. The rules are evolving. There are singular & collective titles - Alpha + whatever being a singular, PLUSA being an example of a collective.
Herk - The reason you were given the task was that you wouldn't be constrained by history & preconceptions.

oh yeah DIBS -- good topic. Obama apparently doesn't have any imported beer at the White House! How's he gonna serve Becks? My esteem of him fell just a little when I heard that... After all aren't we tying to repair foreign relations? And frankly them "feriners" do so much of the beer (but granted not all) so much better than we do.
Also, did we ever ascertain why you like your men blue or sunny (or something)?

Here's a nice push button topic. This proves my theory about Covert Race/Class Warfare
City offers homeless a one-way ticket out of town
BY LEO STANDORA
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Wednesday, July 29th 2009, 4:00 AM
If you're homeless and can't cut it in New York, the city has your one-way ticket outta here - to anywhere in the world - on the house.
The free ride is part of a $500,000-a-year Bloomberg administration program to keep the homeless out of the shelter system, which costs $36,000 a year per family, The New York Times reported.
More than 550 families have left for destinations in 24 states and five continents on the city's dime since 2007.
City officials said there were no limits on where a family can be sent; all it takes is for a relative to take them in when they arrive.
Once a family leaves, homeless services officials say they follow up to make sure they have arrived and are okay.
In rare cases, the family will be advanced up to four months' rent, a one-month security deposit, a furniture allowance and a broker's fee.
The What
Someday this war is gonna end..

What, first of all what does it have to do with race/class warfare???
Secondly, it is cheaper than housing them so it makes economic sense.
Thirdly, I'm sure the families agree to it and are not rounded up, put on trains and shipped out kicking and screaming.
All you did, as usual, was cut and past and rant. You didn't express an opinion as to why it was right or wrong. but we've come to expect that crap from you.

shipping the chronically poor and homeless out of the city has ruined many communities in the united states. large cities can handle a large amount of poor people. it has the infrastructure and means to do so. so many upper/middle/working class suburbs have become slums now due to the high cost of inner city living. so lets have All poor people now live in areas where public transportation cant support the amount, neighborhoods with a tiny police force now have to deal with gangs and drugs? there is a difference between helping people and just dumping your "problems|" on other communities. it's so pathetic that we emulating europe more and more each day.

Rob - These people are being sent to their families who have agreed to accept them - they're not being shipped out to random boondocks.
Posted by: Arkady at July 29, 2009 3:57 PM
so Biff, how many drinks does it take YOU to get into curious mode?!
Posted by: herkimermaid at July 29, 2009 3:58 PM
DeLepp...5th Ave between 17th and 18th streets
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 29, 2009 3:58 PM
Crikey! Skies have lightened & are showing patches of blue but major sturm und drang still making incredible noise!

"so Biff, how many drinks does it take YOU to get into curious mode?!"
Herk, actually none. I'm naturally a very curious person.
Posted by: Biff Champion at July 29, 2009 4:00 PM
For most straight guys, it seems to be between the 4 to 5 cocktail mark or 7-8 beers.
I figure if it starts at 6pm, it takes what...about 17 minutes to down a drink when socializing, it should be ripe for the picking (when factoring in the wait at the bar for each drink) by around 8:46 or so...

"I've been told that white bags with red ties are tres gauche!"
Very much so!

As far as I'm aware, this is voluntary, right? No one is being forced to leave- just given the opportunity to do so if they want.
Posted by: bxgrl at July 29, 2009 4:04 PM
Arkady bist du Deutsch?
Posted by: herkimermaid at July 29, 2009 4:04 PM
11217 - You need to include a widget factor in your calculations.
Posted by: Arkady at July 29, 2009 4:04 PM
You couldn't get enough beer in me to make me curious.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 29, 2009 4:04 PM
as for shipping people somewhere else, I'm fine with it. NYC sends a fortune in tax dollars to new york state and DC and we don't get much for it. If I recall for every $1 we send to DC we get back something like 0.92. Places like Montana and North Dakota get back $1.15 fo revery $1 they send.
Posted by: DeLepp at July 29, 2009 4:04 PM
Damn 11217...you've got this down to a science! I recognize and applaud your 'gangsta' !!! LOL
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 29, 2009 4:05 PM
Herk - Nein.
Posted by: Arkady at July 29, 2009 4:06 PM
11217...I find that money works better than beer!!!!!
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 29, 2009 4:08 PM
Will anyone else at the party be stoned besides me...?
Posted by: 11217 at July 29, 2009 4:08 PM
Snappy & ENY - If that means I'm not going to be picked up I guess I'll rethink my wardrobe.
Posted by: Arkady at July 29, 2009 4:08 PM
I'm also chatting with someone from silverdaddies on yahoo IM. i hope to god I don't get these posts mixed up or I'll likely get banned from here.

straight + six pack = bi.
Posted by: DitmasSnark at July 29, 2009 4:09 PM
that is just this one progrram ARKAdy. most just wind up broke and carless in random suburbs with a section 8 voucher in their hands living in houses with out of state landlords who cash in on cheap housing prices and charging obscene amounts of rent because the govt flips the bill and it's a definite transaction for cash in their pocket.
also sending whole families to live with families elsewhwere doesnt help the infrastructure or job problem. it's just turning the suburbs into chronic welfare states and areas where people wont be able to get out of poverty.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 29, 2009 4:18 PM
Arkady, you can always go "liquor store bag chic" in black plastic?
Posted by: cobblehiller at July 29, 2009 4:18 PM
vaporizors are the pothad version of a morphine drip. i had a disabled neighbor in harlem who had a vaporizer and he smoked me up once (only once as i was never allowed back lol) and it just felt way too hardcore druggy to me.

Posted by: herkimermaid at July 29, 2009 4:20 PM
Snaps - Maybe I'll just do a basic black from 9th St. Pets - anything to help me carry a tune (or give them out as barf bags to everyone else if I sing.)

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 29, 2009 4:33 PM
haha Rob - yeah, vaporizers are hardcore. Oddly enough, they get you more wasted, but use alot less product to do so. Magic!!

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 29, 2009 4:54 PM
Herkimermaid - bist du Deutsch? Ich spreche Deutsch.
Snappy - yes, I'll be at Ellis.
Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at July 29, 2009 4:55 PM

Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 29, 2009 4:55 PM
DH...maybe it's all those stories of the 'big geese' up there :)
Seriously though...did you all hear about that crazy woman I think on Long Island who boiled water and dumped it on her cheating husband's mr. winky while he was sleeping? YEOWCH!!!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 29, 2009 4:55 PM
"Snappy, let's hope Mrs. C is not the jealous type."
She's not jealous of lesbians.
Posted by: Biff Champion at July 29, 2009 4:56 PM
I don't know DH what is it? Now I'M curious!
Posted by: herkimermaid at July 29, 2009 4:56 PM
At least not PBLs, like Snappy. I'm hardly Snappy's type.
Posted by: Biff Champion at July 29, 2009 4:56 PM
Snappy - That would sure cure a yeast infection! Bet it went right into the freezer too.
Posted by: Arkady at July 29, 2009 4:58 PM
chiller, i dont know. see it's working now. the keyboard on this fisher-price-ish laptop (seriously) gets wonky lately. i can on type with two fingers on it to as this laptop is designed and was manufactured for children in rural african villages (kid u not). but it gets me online i so i cant complain. tho if anyone knows anyone with a hand me down computer pleAse keep me in mind. tho i have been thinking about buying A 2-3 dollar netbook, or a super cheap desktop

Posted by: PitbullNYC at July 29, 2009 5:01 PM
Arkady...Ha!!!
Biffy, even we lesbos can easily see you are dreamy :) We just don't necessarily wanna play with your naughty bits :)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 29, 2009 5:03 PM
Ich bin Amerikanisch Arkady, aber ich habe Burgerschaft durch meinem Vater. Es ist seit langem, daß ich wirklich Deutsch gesprochen (und geschrieben) habe.. in case you didn't notice. Maybe we can have a chat auf Deutsch and some plonk together next week too :)
Speaking of German things is Der Schwarze Kolne open yet?
Posted by: herkimermaid at July 29, 2009 5:04 PM
Herk - It was 6years who said he speaks Deutsch. I can just read it a bit. But he'll be there too.
Posted by: Arkady at July 29, 2009 5:11 PM
OK well just plonk's fine too :)
Posted by: herkimermaid at July 29, 2009 5:14 PM
"Seriously though...did you all hear about that crazy woman I think on Long Island who boiled water and dumped it on her cheating husband's mr. winky while he was sleeping? YEOWCH!!!"
that's why i don't date girls from home.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 29, 2009 5:19 PM
Can you hook up an external keyboard to it? If so, I'll ask BH if he can get you a used one.
Posted by: cobblehiller at July 29, 2009 5:20 PM
Geez - why is everyone hating on the sweet ass rooftop bar at Le Bleu!?
You Park Slopers need to chill the eff out!!
Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 29, 2009 5:26 PM
Rob - my sister has a functioning Dell laptop at home that she doesn't use anymore. It's huge, but still works pretty well. Next time I talk to her I'll see if she still wants it.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 29, 2009 5:27 PM
DH, I don't understand it either. A bar with a view, what could be so bad?
Posted by: cobblehiller at July 29, 2009 5:28 PM
jeez duh, i think i can hook up an external one to it actually. i will try that instead of constantly shutting down, which makes me thinks it's the actual pc's problem, not the keyboard. the keyboard is made of neon green rubber, made for spills.
just got back with the dogs and saw a grown ass woman wailing on a kid no older than 5 while people around laughed :-/ she pulled him inside when i was about to pass with the dogs. people suck.
