Um, those American Apparel ads are.... Maybe their new ad campaign should say something like "Look like a trollop at discount prices!" The chick with the pleather washcloth for a skirt is the most disturbing.

Hi Snappy, you know, I was just thinking the same thing. They annoy me!
Posted by: cobblehiller at July 7, 2009 9:23 AM
you preferred to be referenced as snappy or insert as BRG has been using recently?

Speaking of scantily clad, have any of you seen those recent pics of Rhianna with the star pasties???? I think I caught it on Extra last night.

U.S. Home-Equity Loan Delinquencies Set Record in First Quarter
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=axMDObJEk6eA
July 7 (Bloomberg) -- Late payments on home-equity loans rose to a record in the first quarter as 18 straight months of job losses and a slumping economy left more borrowers unable to pay their debts, the American Bankers Association reported.
Refied then Refried.....
“The number one driver of delinquencies is job loss,” James Chessen, the group’s chief economist, said in an e-mailed statement. “Delinquencies won’t improve until companies start hiring again and we see a significant economic turnaround.”
Lets see, The Unemployment rate was 4.7% in Nov '08 and it's now 9.6% a 45% increase. To get back on the "Road to recovery" we need to create 4 million jobs! The funny thing is you have certain Retards claiming "the economy has recovered", Right!
The U.S. economy lost an average 691,000 jobs a month during the first quarter, and has cut about 6.5 million positions since the recession began in December 2007. Unemployment climbed to 9.5 percent in June, a 26-year high, the Labor Department said July 2. President Barack Obama last month predicted unemployment will reach 10 percent this year.
Re-write "President Barack Obama last month predicted unemployment will reach 10 percent next month."
The What (Thanks for the good times)

Any ad execs in the house? I'm wanna tell some of the blue jean makers how to get folks like me to buy their stuff.
**Cut to fat girl shoving groceries into the refrigerator and kitchen cabinets. She's satisfied she got all her shopping done for the week.....Cut to living room. Tv is on HGTV. Fat girl is wearing X jeans, sprawled out on the couch snoring, cat stretched out on her ass. "X jeans...comfy enough to sleep in!"**

DIBS, I forwarded that link to my wife telling her that even the most mild chinaman can become volcanic in a flash

Morning Asshats. Why all the hating on the American Apparel ads? I look forward to coming here each day and saying good morning to the hottie with the glasses and Mary Tyler Moore slacks.
Speaking of cleavers, I used to have a tshirt with June and Ward Cleaver on it in which June says to Ward:
"Honey, I'm worried about the Beaver"
Posted by: Biff Champion at July 7, 2009 9:30 AM
Hey, Snaps. I think you'd signed off when I suggested making your own cufflinks if you're desperate. I used to sew a pair of buttons together - with space between like a little unbilical cord.

the chick with the blue hotpants in the AA ad is smokin
Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 7, 2009 9:32 AM
Cobble, BRG has been back a while already. Yesterday, I couldn't resist and asked her if she washed her caddy yet
Posted by: more4less at July 7, 2009 9:32 AM
I agree - those AA ads are just bad
So the media is going NUTSO over this whole MJ tribute, huh?
I hear the Paviliion Theatre on 15th street and PPW will broadcast the tribute?
but will the theatre charge people to come in and watch this tribute which of course they can watch for free at home?
I don't get it!

Hey What, Whuh, BHO.....
Hedge-Fund Industry 2.0 Is Already Taking Shape:
July 7 (Bloomberg) -- There are signs of life returning to the hedge-fund industry. Assets under management are rising. New funds are being launched. Some are even making money.
Reports of hedge funds’ demise are exaggerated even if it isn’t quite time to raise prices in Mayfair’s fancy restaurants, or get into the interior-decoration business in the Hamptons. The industry is going to stick around as an important part of the financial universe.
Right now, there is plenty of evidence that investors are willing to put money into the funds again.
About 150 new ones were started from January to March this year, according to statistics compiled by Hedge Fund Research Inc. Some of them are pretty big. Roc Capital Management LP, started by Arvind Raghunathan, raised $1 billion.

M4L, please don't say the words "chinaman", "flash" and volcanic" all in the same sentence. You're getting DIBS all worked up.
Btw, isn't Chinaman a derogatory term? I thought that's what the meanies in the saloons used to say to Kwai Chang Caine (David Carradine) in Kung Fu when he wandered in.
Posted by: Biff Champion at July 7, 2009 9:35 AM
lol snappy hahahha.
arkady, i have my rescheduled appointment with the D-word this afternoon. i was sorta looking forward to it, but now im not. i feel like he's going to yell at me for never showing up over a year ago to finish the crown he started (yeah there's a big ole screw sticking out of my one of my molars in the back. sexay huh?). oh well. and i have a psychic feeling that the two caps i got put on my front teeth when they were knocked out are going to have to be replaced with crowns :( i can just picture them giving me an itemized bill and me being like oh hells no just yank them out. then i guess at that point id have finally hit the white trash trifecta.

M4L, seriously, is she back? She's not ExpertTexpert - at least I didn't think so.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 7, 2009 9:39 AM
DH - she's hot only because she looks so available/easily accessible. I can relate to that.
What about the dude in the blonde wig wearing the skirt?
Posted by: dittoburg at July 7, 2009 9:39 AM
I mean wearing the white shorts. Thats one confusing model.
Posted by: dittoburg at July 7, 2009 9:40 AM
Rob - Much as I loathe D-words, you're better off having the work done - it'll cost more money & pain in the long run to have them yanked when your jaw goes to hell in a handbasket. You're too young to start going to seed.
Good luck this afternoon. (And maybe tell the d-word to skip the wine & take the price off your tab.)
Posted by: Arkady at July 7, 2009 9:41 AM

Gem...lately I've just been buying jeans from Old Navy. The only problem is that the Sweetheart cut (the only cut they have that actually covers your keister) always runs out fast. The others, Diva and something else, are super low rise and leave your business out in the streets - front and back! I hate that!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 7, 2009 9:48 AM
Old Navy actually sells dress pants for work that are super low rise. Please, someone tell me, what the hell kind of job would one have where they have to be dressed up in a business fashion yet it would be perfectly acceptable to have their booty hanging out? For the love of Bea Arthur, what is this world coming to???
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 7, 2009 9:51 AM
It's the CSI wardrobe effect.
Posted by: Arkady at July 7, 2009 9:53 AM
LOL! Maybe that is to blame...now that I think about it, on many drama/work shows the women do wear ultra low rise pants. Damn them all! And I wish moneky pox on Jerry Bruckheimer and David E. Kelly!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 7, 2009 9:56 AM
Can we designate each day a PLUSA to go check other threads for interesting stories and/or poster discussions so we don't have to? Kind of like a blog monitor?
Posted by: Biff Champion at July 7, 2009 9:57 AM
LOL please explain the CSI wardrobe effect? we had a coworker once, who on her first day wore low rise pants that were somewhat SEE thru, but she was sporting granny panties with them. wtf!? these huge bloomers were sticking right up onto her back as she was filing.

Apparently on a PC, the more often you refresh brownstoner threads, the more gets held in Temporary Internet Files. These need to be deleted more often so as not to slow your system. Also, emptying the Trash Icon will apparently speed the deletion process.

It sold for $37.5 MM, a $12.5 MM profit over 4 years.
I'm telling you all, and yet you mock me, IT IS THE EN-SUITE BATHROOMS THAT ARE THE KEY TO A QUICK PROFIT.

ROB!!! I didn't get a chance to tell you yesterday, but you had asked about a toilet that prevents poo mist. There is a toilet I saw on one of the HGTV trade shows that has some kind of soft vacuum system directly under the rim...it pulls in the air as you...well, ya know! It prevents the bathroom from getting stinky while dropping the kids off at the pool and I'd imagine it would do wonders for your fear of poo mist :)

Dave, you can adjust your Temp Internet Files folder. If you're using Explorer, go to Tools->Internet Options->Settings. At the second half of that screen you can adjust the file size of the folder so select the bare minimum, say 50MB. That should do the trick.

Hey guys, I'm going to bring up cats.
Mainly because I have never seen one with eyes like this before. They are incredible and I have a MAD crush on this big guy. I'm so serious when I say that if we didn't already have 5 I'd scoop him up in a heartbeat. He's divine.
He's also looking for a home. He's stray (he was dumped off) and NOT feral (wild) which is a big difference.
So please take a look and if you know anyone in the market for an neutered adult male (who happens to be remarkably gorgeous) please let me know.

Goldman May Lose Millions From Ex-Worker’s Code Theft (Update1)
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=axYw_ykTBokE
July 7 (Bloomberg) -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. may lose its investment in a proprietary trading code and millions of dollars from increased competition if software allegedly stolen by a former employee gets into the wrong hands, a prosecutor said.
At a court appearance July 4 in Manhattan, Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Facciponti told a federal judge that Aleynikov’s alleged theft poses a risk to U.S. markets. Aleynikov transferred the code, which is worth millions of dollars, to a computer server in Germany, and others may have had access to it, Facciponti said, adding that New York-based Goldman Sachs may be harmed if the software is disseminated.
Raising Radiation Shields! I wonder something guys, how low will interest rates will be when everything blows up? What will be the valuation of your "investment" after the collapse of this year's Mutant Asset Bubble?
he proprietary code lets the firm do “sophisticated, high- speed and high-volume trades on various stock and commodities markets,” prosecutors said in court papers. The trades generate “many millions of dollars” each year.
This code is out in the wild and right now someone is cooking up a nasty surprise for us. Keep talking about Poo Mist, Cats and Asshat clothing...

That story is two days old, What.
I think it's best if you just focus on the covert race/class warfare and leave the economic stuff to those of us who can understand it better and not get all riled up about things that don't actually matter .
They made a big deal over this just to get the gut prosecuted with more charges. Yaaaaaaawwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnn.

He's a sweetheart. We were over there on the fourth having a raucous time and he just laid right on the deck with us. I LOVE him. I tried to hide my affections because I thought my husband would throw me off the deck if he saw me eyeing another cat but then when he started talking to him in sweet talk I thought whewww....Finally I can be nice to the big guy without getting divorced.

Major Dunkin' Donuts franchisee goes bust
http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20090706/FREE/907069969
Kainos Partners Holding Co., which operates 56 Dunkin' Donuts stores in New York, South Carolina and Nevada and employs 700, filed for bankruptcy protection.
"Kainos Chief Operating Officer Bart Thorne said in the documents that the downturn in the economy was the primary cause for the company's bankruptcy filing as fewer consumers frequented restaurants to save cash. Mr. Thorne said average weekly store sales had declined enough that the company could not meet its debt obligations."
Wait Day Trader in Bed Stuy said the economy was improving!

The Dunkin Donuts operator was obviously overextended. He got what he deserves.
This however continues to prove how little you really know about things. Most of those individual stores will likely remain open. You need to learn a little about bankruptcy.

So after eating Pringles from a cannister yesterday, I'm now sitting in my office eating leftovers from my kid's dinner last night. A container of macaroni, broccoli and cheese with cut up hot dogs mixed in. Am I officially white trash? What next? Will I be drinking Bud and frying up a turkey in my wife beater next to a trailer, with a half-smoked Camel sticking out of my mouth and a John Deere baseball cap on?
Posted by: Biff Champion at July 7, 2009 1:28 PM

was the cheese via cheese in a can?
Posted by: more4less at July 7, 2009 1:36 PM
Arkady, I suppose so. The problem is Mrs. C is very health conscious, so even though it sounds bad, I think the pasta is whole wheat, the hot dogs are actually turkey dogs and I suspect the cheese might actually be made with soy milk. At least the dogs aren't made of tofu or this would really be bad.

I'm fascinated by the people who create multiple log-ins on an ANONYMOUS blog. Normally the "new" log-in identity emerges following a blogocide or banning (The What, Randolph). Other people create multiple log-ins to jerk around or appear to be clever (Dave).
But sometimes posters appear to be genuinely concerned with the persona they originally created and desire to re-launch themselves as a NEW "character." HA! Strange.
It's all very.....WHOA! Lovely PR co-worker with booty pants wants to talk shop. Gotta go!

It's true though did you see that old lady Joe Jackson at the BET awards being interview by CNN?
They were asking how the family was coping etc and all he kept talking about was that he was starting a record label.
That bastard rode on him as a child and his riding on him postmortem.
The next day Joe had a handler with him during interviews.
All this fanfare can not be good for these kids who are trying to mourn the death of their dad, essentially the only parent they've known.

Posted by: DeLepp at July 7, 2009 3:24 PM
What, I think its a tragedy that he died, especially at this age. Is it a loss of one of the greatest entertainers in history? YES.
But it's all this faux acting from people who do not know him at all, have never met him, and probably haven't listened to him in a quite a few years that seems a bit over the top.
This sort of thing happens when many, but not all, celebrities, die. Lady Di comes to mind. MLK. JFK. Not many others. Yes, always a true tragedy. Very sad.
I remember when JFK and MLK died. You do too.
All very sad but if people out there crying think they are experiencing something akin to what their relatives and close friends experience then they are very wrong.

I guess I shouldn't mention the fact that all of the internets people have been throwing out theories such as:
The ones claiming that the family blissfully ignored his drug use for years and years because he was no a longer viable commodity alive. He's worth much more to them now.
Serious, that's the rumor out there.
I also shouldn't mention that on TV this morning there was a discussion that they even kept the kids nanny away until she'd sign a waiver stating that she's not know anything about his drug use even though in the past she'd said she'd had to pump his stomach when he'd induced to many heavy hitters.
It's all over the internets What.
So why don't you go attack them instead of someone who just wants the man to rest with dignity for the sake of his kids.

I'm sure I'll get attacked for this, but what talent did Princess Di have other than the luck of being born into high society and the ability to marry a prince? FYI, I haven't cried for him, but I did see Michael Jackson in person - my parents took my brother, sister and I to a Jackson 5 concert at Madison Square Garden when I was a kid in the 1970s. Michael and the brothers were spectacular even then. Their songs from that era are still my favorite "Michael" recordings.

This is so ridiculous. What, there are probably many folks who agree with you about MJ deserving a huge send-off, but when you pepper your statements with such hatred, you can't really wonder why no one stands up for your side of things or 'has your back' on many issues. Princess Di's funeral was done with respect and dignity. People just adored her and her death was the very last thing anyone expected. When people who never met her cried for her, they meant it.
Micahel Jackson's case is a little different, I thought he was going to pass away during his trial. He was so frail and everyone knew he was a major-league narcotics user. His death, though genuinely tragic, was not a huge surprise. Anyway, no comparison between Di and Michael.
I forget what Elvis's funeral was like. He was younger than Michael when he died. I remember when Janice Joplin died, she was 28. 28!

It's not her fault she was good looking. She was smart about it. She used her popularity to bring attention to the causes she championed.
It's a shame Anne didn't get her due but Diana still deserves hers.

Comparing Princess Di and Michael Jackson seems a little silly. Except for the fact they were unhappy celebrities, and both did a lot for charity, he was an entertainer and she was a princess. Isn't it foolish to have a dead celebrity remembrance contest? Because 10-20 years down the road we'll still feel regret they died young, but it doesn't compare to how we feel about an MLK, or JFK or Malcolm X or RKF. And There are those whose tragic deaths have more impact than their lives- Emmett Till for one. Those deaths were world altering.
The saddest thing about Michael is, as THL says- the circling vultures.

"McNamara was the main proponent of the Vietnam War and that's where Tiger's father and mother met."
True. Yet had Charles Sifford (and Joe Louis - yes, that Joe Louis) not worked, sacrificed and risked their personal safety to desegregate golf courses and tournaments across the U.S., Tiger Woods would be an unknown.

quote: "I was embarrassed the way the British public reacted after Diana died."
ditto,
The week after Diana died, the working men's club up the road from where I lived in SE London paid tribute by attaching several massive Queen of Hearts playing cards to the front of the building. The kind used on 'Play your Cards Right'.

I was in Home Depot today and heard a cart rolling very fast down the aisle toward me, with someone squealing "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" in a really high-pitched voice. I turned around expecting to see a parent pushing a kid, but no, it was just a fat middle-aged balding guy having fun by himself. I later caught him rocking out by the light bulbs.
Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at July 7, 2009 4:24 PM
I'm being a bit more facetious, ENY.
Speaking of sports, HOW "BOUT THOSE PHILLIES?? And, that awful showing by the Mets!!!!

"And to bring it all home, the first AA model is definitely the ebst. She flutters away WAY too quickly."
yeah - i noticed that too!! they keep that ugly chick with the orange plaid shit up there for ages though!
Posted by: dirty_hipster at July 7, 2009 4:27 PM
sixyears...I hang out at HD hoping that hot guy from Yard Crashers or whatever it's called wants to come home with me and redo my yard!!!!! :)
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 7, 2009 4:28 PM
etson, I'd be forced to respect a classy tribute like that.

dh, that's someone's son you're talking about.

Joe Louis is a towering hero in my book. So was Jesse Owens who put the lie to Adolph Hitler and his aryans. Let's not forget the sheer grit of Jackie Robinson too (and Pee wee Reese for that matter).
6years- sweet story!

"a cart rolling very fast down the aisle toward me"
Hey, I do that! I was in Home Depot this weekend and did some cart-riding! Been doing it since I was a kid! My wife just rolls her eyes. She know better than to try to stop me. For the record though, I don't go "WHEEEE!" in a high-pitched voice when I'm riding.
Posted by: East New York at July 7, 2009 4:30 PM
"I turned around expecting to see a parent pushing a kid, but no, it was just a fat middle-aged balding guy having fun by himself. I later caught him rocking out by the light bulbs."
Will you tell my husband to please come home.
Thanks Six.

six, i usually do that in home depot, lowes but my fav is IKEA. they have pretty good flooring and wheels on their carts allowing for maximum "weeeeeee!" enjoyment without landing your feet on the ground.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 7, 2009 4:30 PM
Lots of eye candy in HD and Lowe's.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 7, 2009 4:32 PM
Maybe the guy in the cart was hoping to eventually run into a Home Depot employee. Seems that would be just about the only way to get some service in that store.
Posted by: Biff Champion at July 7, 2009 4:32 PM
I gotta try that, Kens. Haven't been in IKEA in a while.
Posted by: East New York at July 7, 2009 4:33 PM
Honey if you just so happen to be lurking today I know you're not fat and middle aged (not just yet) I was just going for the chuckle.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at July 7, 2009 4:33 PM
Biff, they are useless anyways. In that respect, Lowe's is way better.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 7, 2009 4:35 PM
ENY make sure you get the furniture carrying carts in the self check out section, not the regular shopping ones. Those are wayyyy more fun but you have to make sure you balace yourself cause it can get tricky. My 8 years of skateboarding does pay off sometimes.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 7, 2009 4:37 PM
Biff,
Do what we did once at a Kmart.
Call the store from the store on your cell phone.
Hi, I'm in the video game isle and I'm looking for someone to unlock the case so I can get a game. We've been looking up and down the aisle for someone for over 20 minutes. Can you make an announcement and send someone?
Thanks.
Swear to god we did it and it worked. seconds later we heard an announcement and a guy came over.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at July 7, 2009 4:37 PM
I know- aisle
Posted by: TownhouseLady at July 7, 2009 4:40 PM
"Biff, they are useless anyways."
I usually just need them to show me where to get a certain kind of screw or drill.
Posted by: Biff Champion at July 7, 2009 4:41 PM
I bet they told you where to go, Biff.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 7, 2009 4:42 PM
whoa. im older than janis joplin? that sorta just blew my mind :-/
*rob*
Posted by: PitbullNYC at July 7, 2009 4:43 PM
Hola again folks...I love the idea of calling the store while in the store. I swear finding someone at Lowe's who works there is impossible! When my foot gets better it's back to Home Depot I go :)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at July 7, 2009 4:43 PM
Yes, rob, she looked a lot older when she died. She was burning the candle at both ends for quite awhile.
So did Eric Clapton but it was george Harrison who pulled him up and dusted him off.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 7, 2009 4:45 PM
Got it...thanks, Kens. I've done a lot of mountain biking so that should help. I've got a need for speed, man!!
Posted by: East New York at July 7, 2009 4:46 PM
QUESTION: Has anyone actually taken or knows someone who took home improvement classes with NHS? Was it worth it? Did you or they learn a lot?
Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 7, 2009 4:47 PM
I try the local hardware stores if I can where the guys actually have a clue. Home Depopt is the worst for info, but its ok if you already know what's what.
Posted by: dittoburg at July 7, 2009 4:50 PM
I should really post this in the forum. Off I go.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at July 7, 2009 4:50 PM
I do the airplane (ENY, like Mark Jackson used to do after fancy assist or bucket) down the aisles - something my wife finds embarrassing.
Posted by: more4less at July 7, 2009 4:53 PM
If you people think you are all a bunch of pathetic loosers with nothing better to do, you gotta read the Letter in the story about the Park Slope Post Office in today's Tuesday Blogwrap^^^^^^
Click on the very small "it" at the end of the story.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 7, 2009 4:57 PM
Nothing wrong with that in my book, M4L! The way I see it, busting off an "airplane" or two is classic husband-type retail store activity.
Posted by: East New York at July 7, 2009 4:57 PM
Sounds like we should have our next PLUSA gathering in the aisles of Home Depot/Lowe's/IKEA/etc. so everyone can demonstrate their cart-riding techniques! We can then adjourn to a Red Hook bar to unwind.
Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at July 7, 2009 4:59 PM
DIBS, that letter is amazing! Speaking of the post office, my local branch (11218) is the subject of a YouTube video with over 142,000 views:

dibs, the usps letter ia priceless and now I'm speechless. Maybe the calvinists had it right that all we should do is work ourselves to exhaustion then pray for salvation. All this time on our hands is turning some into lunatics.

That letter writer has waaaaaay too much time! I've spent many an hour in that post office but never took note of all that! And to spend the time writing it in a letter? Damn!
Hmmmm...wait...the letter writer may think the same of us horsing around in the OT :) Nevermind! Carry on! Nothing more to see here :)

They took down my fave sign from the 7th Av. post office. Officially it said something like, "It is a federal crime to attack a postal worker." Above it someone had written, "Tempting though it is,"

"What ever happened to disagreeing with someone while at the same time respecting their opinion or at the very least respecting their right to have a differing opinion and being able to have an intelligent discourse without resorting to personal attacks?"
I periodically have disagreements with cyber pals, including recent ones with THL and bxgrl, and I've kept it very civil, despite being frustrated knowing they're wrong and just won't admit it. :-)
Posted by: Biff Champion at July 7, 2009 6:21 PM
Arkady, that's very funny.
Posted by: mopar at July 7, 2009 7:27 PM
THL and I have to be very gentle with biff because we know how fragile his mental state is. It's just not right to beat the poor man about his head and shoulders for his inability to admit he is wrong. BUT we love him anyway! :-)

THL- should we have told him?

Kens, I took the NHS home improvement course, way back in the late 90's. It was great. I knew some of the stuff, like how to measure, which end of the hammer pounds the nails, etc, but learned how to frame walls, hang sheetrock, mud the rock, do basic tiling, painting, replace a toilet, hang a door, rip plywood and moulding. We also got to use expensive power tools that I haven't been able to afford to touch since, but still want.
Most importantly, we learned to toss around phrases like "mud the walls" and "rip the boards" so we could sound knowledgeable to contractors we hire. For many of the women in the group, this was an important thing. I know I had fun going into places like Sid's Hardware, on Jay St, where most of the employees are from countries where women don't come out of the house without chaperones, and tell some condescending salesperson exactly what I needed, and how I was going to use it. Priceless.
I digress. If you don't know alot about construction and hom repair, it's worth it to take the course. It's also a lot of fun, as the other students were characters in their own right.
