Municipal Art Society Honors The Brooklyn Flea

Brooklyn-Flea-Award-0709.jpgEarlier this week we shlepped into Manhattan along with Fleamaster Eric Demby for the Municipal Art Society's annual awards ceremony, held this year at the Chelsea Art Museum on 22nd Street. We were honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the planning and preservation group for the Brooklyn Flea's "exceptional contribution to the life of New York City." More specifically, The Flea got props for "providing an alternative to big-box retail that embodies a private sector spirit while yielding generous public benefits."

Congratulations! They're right- it was a shot in the arm for Brooklyn. Good work, Jon.

Congrats, Jon and Eric! I know it's hard work, early, early in the morning, with little thanks, and that's just day of. Glad you're getting some kudos and recognition.

Congratulations!
Your efforts to promote and continually build the quality of the Flea for both Vendor and Shopper are greatly appreciated. As a vendor at the Fort Greene Flea since opening day, it’s been a lovely experience.

Good news.

Here's a suggestion for your next site:

The armory on Grant Square. Huge space. Covered in inclement weather. An iconic building. And at the crossing of Brownstone Brooklyn's Prospect Heights, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights.

Thanks, everyone. Especially the great vendors who show up week after week!

We couldn't agree more with the MAC -- well deserved recognition. We love the flea and love how it is developing.

Big box: household basics at low prices.

Flea market: tchotchkes for people with too much money on their hands.

I guess that makes it an alternative.
