Ellerbe Becket's Arena to be Less Ugly Than Rendered?

atlantic-yards-renderings-0609.jpgThis one got lost in the long-weekend shuffle: Last week Crain's reported that the Ellerbe Becket renderings for the Atlantic Yards arena "do not reflect" Bruce Ratner's vision for the project and that he is still committed to a "world-class design." According to the article, the renderings that we've seen, like those at right (click for larger version), are not necessarily representative of what the value-engineered arena may end up looking like. We'll see.

Not to nitpick, but this article came out on Thursday, not over the weekend. You guys should have been all over this one. Even curbed already did a story on it.

Honestly... does it look that bad? Really? It's an arena, right? Kinda like Lincoln Center with a dome...

So, basically, the MTA and the ESDC continue to work so that the developer gets as many breaks as possible, yet nobody, not even the developer can say what the arena looks like.

How can this be?

"Bruce Ratner's vision"?

That's an oxymoron, right?

Does building schlock for a quick $$ return = vision?
