Brooklyn Heights Streets Clogged With Twilight Fans

rpats-heights-071509.jpg
Unlike when we rode through earlier in the day, Brooklyn Heights was firmly in the grip of Rob Pattinson fever by late afternoon yesterday. There must have been well over a hundred onlookers on Middagh Street waiting to catch a glimpse of the Twilight star when he made his way out of his trailer that was parked between Henry Street and Cadman Plaza West. We didn't stick around, so we have no idea how long they had to wait. Has there been any backlash in The Heights over the amount of film shoots that take place there?

Anybody who admits to being there (and seeing others) really needs to get a life.

I'll admit to walking by on my way home and wondering what the hell those people were doing there. I never heard of the actor or the show. It's not quite the same as when Brad Pitt and George Clooney were filming Burn Before Reading. At least I could understand the interest in that.

I don't usually care either way, but he is actually pretty delicious...

The sidewalks were clogged with every 14 year old girl in NYC yesterday. I don't think they need to get a life. They looked like they were having fun. I loved how so many of them had gotten dressed up for the occasion -- "if only he looked my way and our eyes met, I know..."

I have only a vague idea of who this guy is, but I get that that's because I'm middle aged.

I've never heard of him either. Googled him and he's just not my cup of tea.

I think they were also filming on Amity Street, between Clinton & Henry, the week or so before. Huge crowds as I walked by each morning. Haven't got a clue about 'Twilight'...likewise Ringo.

I have never heard of him or the show.

Well, hey, I guess it's a step-up from Jonas Brothers, what with their pledge to never touch a vajayjay.

Twilight is a series of hugely popular teen vampire books -- and he plays the vampire in the movies (first was out last year I think).

I think the Twilight thing is a bit like a sexed up Harry Potter for tweens.

And Biff, did they film portions of Burn After Reading in Brooklyn Heights? I had no idea.

They are constantly filming in the Heights. I think the BHA gets "quiet money" for every shoot so there is no organized uprising. Also, the gentry keep their cars garaged so its no biggie for them.

so many movies and TV shows filmed in the Heights.
For Burn after Reading they made State street look like Georgetown. For Age of Innocence they had huge mounds of fake snow on Remsen Street. For Bullets Over Broadway they made a whole fake building facade on Joralemon and Columbia Place, on and on.

Thanks BH76! That was great fun to peruse.

My family's lived in Cadman Plaza for over 40 years, since the bldg was first completed--the only time a film crew was a nuisance was when a scene from the first Superman movie was shot on the bridge at night and the lights were so strong they came right in my 5th floor bedroom window and kept me up. Moonstruck is generally considered the high point of the Heights' movie career. In Manhattan, Woody Allen and his wife bicker about something right at the end of I think it's Orange St. If you grow up in NY, complaining about film crews is like complaining about all the tall buildings. The one thing I don't like is when they have fabulous catered spreads right out there on the sidewalk, at arm's length, all that fresh fruit and turkey sandwiches, and you can't have any of it. Pattinson's fans were orderly and pleasant and they're welcome to loiter passionately on my stoop any time they like.
