Summer Streets Comes Vandy
The Summer Streets program came to Prospect Heights this weekend as the neighborhood's main commercial drag of Vanderbilt Avenue was closed to vehicular traffic between Park Place to Dean Street from noon to 5 p.m. Blogger Cozy Josie was on the scene and describes it as more like a block party than a street fair, with local restaurants and bars extending their seating area into the street and community organizations setting up information booths. What did readers think of it? If you missed it, it'll be running again for the next three sundays.

We were there in the early afternoon
the vibe was light and people were having a nice time of it - I didn't see anything extra other than a few kids tables selling lemonade.
Finally got a chance to stop into that bakery, "Joyce" which had some yummy treats!

At least Vandy isn't some b.s. made-up abbreviation. Vanderbilt University, also named after C. Vanderbilt has gone by Vandy for almost 100 years. At least Vandy rolls off the tongue, unlike BoCoCa, which is easily the dumbest compression I've ever seen.
Either way, I had a good time.

It was great, not a lot going on but a nice wide open strech on a sunny day. I say a few groups playing badminton too!

It was wonderfully mellow at about 4:30pm yesterday: a small jazz group playing, a badminton match, kids goofing around -- very nice! If I hadn't been cleaning my deck (grrr!) that afternoon I would have spent more time there.

that was my friend's bar (Plan B) that set up the badminton (and beer pong table) and his kids selling the lemonade! It was really cute.

> "Summer Streets Comes Vandy?"
Sigh.
Using full names and prepositions is so tiring!

There are very few annoying-hipster markers as reliable as calling Vanderbilt Avenue "Vandy." I've bonded with neighbors over how dumb it sounds.

I wonder how the surrounding blocks feel about the diverted traffic, Vanderbilt is one of the few blocks that a driver can take to get from the Slope to the other side of Brooklyn relatively quickly.

As someone who lives on one of the surrounding blocks, I can tell you we were fine with it. I spent a good amount of Sunday walking around those surrounding blocks and did not see any noticible increase in traffic. ALso, there are plenty of alternative streets that run parralel to Vanderbilt that will take you from Park Slope to where ever you want to go. To imply that Vanderbilt is an important auto corridor on a sunday afternoon is rediculous. You clearly don't drive or walk much in the neighborhood.

This event was sparsely attended, mostly kids running around, but it was a cool, laid back vibe. Maybe with each sunday, more people will come out.
I agree that the term Vandy is stupid. Leave it to hipsters to come up with something that inane.
