Streetlevel: Tish James Campaign HQ Opens on Fulton

Council Member James has put a lot of effort into trying to revitalize Fulton Street so it made sense when she decided to set up her campaign headquarters between Grand and Downing; the new office opened this past weekend. Now she'll also have to kick in for the BID fees that some of her neighbors are complaining about! GMAP

That is good because according to national grid there is going to be a "long project" of putting in a sewer on Grand Ave tween Gates and Lefferts Aves starting within the next couple of weeks so when they begin to drag like the Fulton St construction that lasted well over a year, I wont have far to go to complain and ask for help.

Ok this may be the dumbest/uninformed question in a while, but what does that banner/sticker mean that says "Tish [image of a heart crossed out] Bid"? I just noticed it in a few business windows and mean to ask but always forget. Is it something to do with Letitia and the Business Improvement District or something?

I think she actually prefers her real name Letitia to Tish.
The signs usually show a heart then Tish followed by a crossed heart BID
Translation:

Brownstoner I was waiting for this. If you are in the neighborhood you would've saw this office last week! This proves my point about you just making up shit!

What are you talking about, What? As you well know, we wouldn't pass this on our way to (a) the subway (b) the supermarket (c) our office (d) our kids' schools. You are correct that this is the first time in the last week that we walked between Grand and Classon. So what? Your attempts at proving that we're "not in the neighborhood" are both baseless and beside the point, since Brownstoner is about a hell of lot more neighborhoods than Clinton Hill. We're still waiting for your Clinton Hill blog where you prove to the world what a street-wise man of the people you are...Until then, keep throwing stones, or pebbles more like...

Only if she has a real estate tax pass-through in her lease, which I wouldn't include if I was the landlord and had a tenant who was only staying for six months.

I can't afford Michael Allen. Oh, I've got a good enough job, but I'm already 25 pounds overweight.

i think that it is fantastic, now let's send the drug dealers on the corner of grand and putnam to the front of her building and have them hang out and transact their business there! then perhaps she will do something about them and their ILLEGAL business.

Are you crazy, witchdoctor? Ms. James cares nothing about stopping those drug deals. She cares only about cosmetic things, such as raising her fist in opposition to the Atlantic Yards or screeching that underutilized daycare centers should remain open. Anything of substance or that requires hard work is sure to be avoided by her.

Big Jugs, you usual ignorance is showing. You obviously have no clue what Ms James is about, or how hard she works for her varied and large constituency.

There is nothing cosmetic about AY, except on Ratner's end, and nothing unimportant about day care, if you need it in order to work, and still have kids.

She is, after all one of several hundred city council people, not the mayor, not omniscient, and not God. She can't fix everything, either. Sometimes people have to get off their complaining butts and be a part of a solution, in some way, shape, or form. She has positions I don't always agree with, but she also helps with several causes I work with, and no one is as helpful, or hands-on as Leticia James. She isn't even my city council person, so I have nothing to gain from admiring her, or defending her, and unfortunately, I can't even vote for her.
