This is promising. NoNo was crap and I can't think of any good Turkish in the neighborhood, so this could really be a welcome addition. I hope they have GOOD Turkish coffee.

A good Turkish restaurant will be very welcome but, FWIW, I liked NoNo a lot.

Perhaps it went downhill later in its lifespan?
I went last year with a friend who's born and raised in New Orleans and we were both very unimpressed with the meal. The service was horrible, the food had very little taste and the place was empty which didn't really add to the ambiance. It also wasn't cheap.
I'm never happy to see a place go, but this is not a place I ever would have visited twice.

Agree with 11217 -- went there about a year ago because my wife wanted to, place was completely empty and was thoroughly unimpressed with the food. Way too expensive for what you got.

@Biff
I agree that BH is a food dead-zone, but am I mistake in thinking that there actually IS a Turkish place on Montague?

Rookie yes I believe there is a turkish place on Montague - it is upstairs off the street. I have only been once, 4-5 years ago. I remember it being good, but little by the way of ambiance. Are they still there? It used to get a huge lunch crowd.

NoNo was definitely a NoGo.
I went twice (once for bunch and once for dinner), but was disappointed both times.
Bland food, lackluster service, and overpriced to boot.

I thought there was a Turkish place on 5th Ave around 3rd Street or so.

Alas, Zilli, the Turkish place on 5th Avenue shut down a few months ago. I miss the burek, the labne and all the other tasty vittles. Looking forward to the new Turkish restaurant.

Yay, Turkish food - yum! I do think No No went downhill as time went on - went there early on and it was OK but it was very bad on a later visit. I hope this new place is good - I would imagine there would be lots of demand...

Excellent news, especially if it is related to the Istanbul Restaurant on Emmons Avenue in Sheepshead Bay. That Istanbul Rest. is an excellent place with huge salads as well as many tasty lamb dishes and awesome Turkish bread. I tried Zilli a couple of times and found it a tad precious for my taste.

Oops. After writing that glowing review above, I realized that my fave Turkish restaurant in Sheepshead Bay isn't in fact Istanbul. It's Bay Shish, down the street. Oh well. I'm still eager to try the new Istanbul.
