Streetlevel: Jacques Torres Opens Ice Cream Joint

Chocolatier Jacques Torres expanded his Dumbo empire this past weekend with the opening of his new ice cream parlor at 62 Water Street. The new shop features more than a dozen flavors of ice cream and a handful of sorbets. The two customers who were there when we stopped by yesterday both offered up rave reviews of the product. I was there yesterday and the blood orange fat-free sorbet was terrific. The vanilla ice cream was not that good, too eggy and kind of gluey texture. Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory vanilla is better.

Wow. Look at those prices!
I know their stuff is really good, but $4.75 for two scoops? $5.50 for a milkshake?? I guess it's at least better than Ben and Jerry's.
This makes me miss Pete's ice cream more and more every year. Their ice cream was so good and the prices didn't make you feel violated.
