Development Watch: 585 Marcy Avenue

When we wrote up this project at the corner of Marcy and Myrtle Avenues in Bed Stuy a year ago, building plans had yet to be approved. Now the six-story building is one-third of the way up, but it's now got a partial Stop Work Order on it relating to the storage of combustible gases. At the end of the day, it's supposed to have 51 units.

Yup, I live right across the street from this. In the past two weeks it has really shot up. We were told that there will be retail space on the ground floor.

I live around the block and I saw the steel supports on the 2nd floors go in for small balconies at the end of last week = Hasidism. The finished building on Willoughby at the corner of Nostrand is the same thing. According to the block association meetings these buildings legally are open to anyone...but not really.

Can anyone confirm that this is going to be Hasidic building? Just curious.
