Not to sound like a cranky old person, but what is the deal with twitter? I signed up for an account but didn't write anything yet, didn't put up any pics, no profile info, and yet some weirdos are following my twitter account. To quote Jerry Seinfeld "WHAT is the deal with THAT?"

As I understand it (per our Marketing Manager), it is customary to follow anyone who is following you on Twitter.

Therefore, the best way to get people to follow you is to follow them.

So all the marketing managers (or, to be precise, all of the assistants to marketing managers) in the world are busy following everything they can think of in the hopes that the people they are following will start following them so that at the next staff meeting the marketing manager can say "we have XXXXX following us on Twitter, up 15% from last month!".

I don't even get it. I signed up for it, tried it, and don't understand it at all. And yup, CG ups, there are people "following" me too.

CG Ups, how are you feeling? Are you recovering?

I love Twitter. Out of all the social networking sites, I see twitter as having the most staying power and being an excellent marketing/information tool. It is simple, so simple people figure there is something more to it, and it works. I find the best way to use it is with a third party app that lets you run it on your desktop or phone so you get a constant stream of tweets.

Twitter's cool. But I don't need to follow Brownstoner on it. Enough is enough!

Re: king of the burg comment: "...so you get a constant stream of tweets."

OMG - here's a great example of the "culture wars" - some of us can think of few things worse than getting a constant stream of tweets! Does no one have a life anymore?

CG ups, that sound awful. Fortunately, you're young and healthy and it should heal quickly and fully. At least you have every reason to be a couch potato without feeling guilty about it, unlike me. Best of luck with the surgery and recovery.

i think where twitter is interesting is the ability to get information out to lots of people at the same time. like texting but on a larger scale. i also think it has a future in drug dealing, not sure if anyone is using it for that yet.
