Streetlevel: Sneakers for Willoughby

45-Willoughby-Avenue-0509.jpg
Where a former pilates studio, a new sneaker store is getting ready to open at 45 Willoughby Avenue in Fort Greene. Shoe shoppers will be sure to be well-caffeinated given the store's proximity to java joint Bidonville. GMAP

will this be one of those ridiculous hang out joints for poseur skaters? you know the ones that have like 5 pairs of sneakers in the place and like 15 employees and all their friends just standing around? nothing against those stores tho, they seem like cool fun places, just never understood their business models.

haha Rob - i hear you. Like the place on Spring and lafayette that sells 1,000 dollar pairs of nikes.

I actually think stores like this do pretty well. The ones I see are always jam packed on weekends with people buying stuff.

spring/lafayette - clientele? or supreme?

clientele closed down.

supreme still exists.

well if bidonville can stay in business selling $3 cups of coffee, a sneaker store will be able to stay in business selling $100 sneakers. it all depends on the account they get and what exclusive kicks they can get.

If this is actually one of those sneakerhead places it may do well. Anything here either needs to be food related or a destination business.

dirty hipster, oh that johnny-come-lately...it had to resort to selling uggs to make more money..esp w/ all those thick white chicks getting off the tour buses from allentown, PA..

Posted by: ltjbukem73 at May 14, 2009 3:44 PM

aha ha haaaaaaaaa! sneaker joint selling uggs. Lame.

Posted by: mshook at May 14, 2009 3:51 PM

haha ltj - uggs? really? LAME!!

I have no idea what kind of business they do - all i know is when i leave work everyday there's a gaggle of people standing infront of the door blocking the sidewalk - i'm not really into the sneaker culture, but they have some pretty cool looking stuff in the window.

that spot is one of those doomed locations. every business that opens there fails. badly.

bidonville has good coffee and sells beans by the pound for $12 which is way cheaper than starbucks or connecticut muffin or tillies.

A ballsy move. I'm impressed. I hope they do well.
