It's Friday. It's Spring. The sun is finally out. Time to relax.

Here's a FGVOTD that celebrates today. This song was nominated for a Grammy Award and won the best Music Video from MTV.
Throughout the video, the band play around with various props and costumes while several extras wander about, causing chaos and ultimately trashing the set...(The Director) Tim Pope makes a cameo in the beginning, riding a rocking horse and yelling out high pitched stage directions (requiring the inhalation of a helium balloon) through a plastic megaphone. The final shot is of bassist Simon Gallup crouching and peering into the camera while wearing a bridal veil and holding some champagne.

This goth rock video should Cure our rainy day blues.

Hang the DJ! Hang the DJ! Hang the DJ!

I linked to a FGVOTD I was going to use next Friday.

OOPS! Oh well, we get two for the price of one.

Here's the correct link.

This message is for Denton, should he happen to read the OT.

Denton, thanks a million for your response to my forum post. That was really helpful.

Yes, as you noted, I'll have to remind myself of my conservative principles as I'm shelling out the bucks!

Posted by: benson at May 8, 2009 9:18 AM

benson...not all conservatives are penny pinchers as not all liberals are spendthrifts. We can debate the current Congress with previous ones but I suspect that would wind up too deep for the OT.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at May 8, 2009 9:44 AM

Wanted some advice from y'all. My mom is visiting in 2 wks and we wanted to go out of town for a couple of days. Current thoughts are Berkshires if we do countryside or Philly if we do a city. Any recommendations??

We are super-close. Can't wait till she is here.

I am hungover in a spacey kind of way today. Think I embarrased myself last nite.

ok 'stoners: I am getting hitched next week. On Saturday, in Brooklyn.

Please spare me the "you're dead meat" comments and do me a solid—pray to Who(m)ever, ring a bell, burn some sage, whatever floats your boat. We'd love a rain-free event.

thanks folks...

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I hate obligation holidays!!! I am SUCH an idiot. I completely lost my grandmother's new phone number and new mailing address and it's not in my cell phone. I had this info written on a post it at work and now i remember purging post-its a few weeks from my work area. :-/ STUPID! Now she is going to wait around all day on Sunday waiting for my call. She will call me most likely sometime next week and rip me a new a-hole and make me feel like crap for not calling or sending a card. They arent even listed in the yellow pages, nor do I know anyone who knows her or the baby-momma-in-law she lives with down in south carolina. (i dont even know this girl's last name and the phone number would be listed under her.).

now i feel like a horrible person. if i see one more stupid mother's day commercial im going to scream tho. ugh and today is my ex's birthday who has gone missing in action for the last two weeks. I dont even see the point in texting him a happy birthday since he won't reply anyway.

(however tomorrow is my 1/4 birthday) and i get paid today instead of monday (we normally get paid every other monday) im taking myself out to dinner and a movies tomorrow. I'll probably even shower and shave!

Snappy, If you are reading this I dont think I can do dinner tonight :( cuz my roommate has been mad tutoring all week like every night very late because of some kind of crazy exams that are coming up soon and I have to take care of the dogs. my dog wouldnt be a problem but his dog needs to be taken out every 2 hours or so and constant care. i dont mind doing it cuz he does a ton of stuff for my dog.

anyway sorry for the rant. it just occurred to me i didnt even talk in ot yesterday (only realized after i saw randy's "count". laaaaame!

Fjorder, congratulations. No negativity here. We'll cross our fingers for a nice, sunny day. And leveraging off etson's post, whatever you do, don't drink too much at your own wedding! I learned that lesson the hard way.

etson, Newport, RI is a great destination for a couple of days.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 8, 2009 9:49 AM

We're supposed to have a great weekend and all next week full of sunny days.

Newport would be a lot more interesting than Philly. Good idea.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at May 8, 2009 9:51 AM

Rob - no one else is going to observe Sunday to her? Someone you could get the info from? How did you get it initially? Maybe you could phone her old place & someone would know forwarding address or phone number?

Posted by: Arkady at May 8, 2009 9:53 AM

Newport is gorgeous. I went to Newport and Providence last year for Labor Day weekend and it was one of my favorite trips for the long weekend getaway.

Speaking of that, did you guys every check out Waterfire in Providence during the summer? How great is that!

Posted by: Kensingtonian at May 8, 2009 9:59 AM

I've been to Newport a couple of times with Mrs. Champion and the Champettes and we really like it there. The drive is not bad at all from New York.

hmmm i could try the old number but that number is the boyfriend of the girl my grandmother is living with who threw them all out (long story). well i think he dumped her or something cuz her boyfriend thought it was weird she insisted on having my grandmother who is the father of two of her kids live with them for financial support etc etc etc. but yeah maybe i can call that number, good idea. hopefully he isnt an ass and gives it to me.

other than that, i have no contact with any other family memebers other than my 1/2 sister who has none of our grandmother's information and a distant second cousin who hasnt talked to my grandmother in years either so i dont think she'd have her number.

Posted by: Arkady at May 8, 2009 11:44 AM

I just read the Rosie thread. That was exhausting. How many times can we have the same f'ing arguments? Maybe Mr. B. should just have an "Ig'nant Ass Day" and let people throw out their most vile racist, sexist and classist comments and get it out of their system. Maybe then we can move on to threads where a real discussion can be had. What was right. Obviously real estate is a dead topic so we get this garbage.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 11:56 AM

"What was right. Obviously real estate is a dead topic so we get this garbage."

Brownstoner has post some of the most Garbage Covert Race/Class Warfare Bullshit this week and it's very disgusting! I very surprised that the Asshats don't call him out out this! This type of dialogue is very dangerous and does nothing but fan the flames of race hate between ourselves! We have a insolent Banking System and economically everything is fucked and we need each other to get thru this. I just can't understand Brownstoner's thinking but, I wish he knock this shit off!

The What

Posted by: Return of The What at May 8, 2009 11:57 AM

FYI- more4less seems to be blocked. he emailed me last night.Trying to figure out why.

Posted by: bxgrl at May 8, 2009 12:01 PM

"We have a insolent Banking System"

I'm assuming you meant insolvent yet, insolent fits quite nicely too given the 'gimme gimme' attitude that the banks seem to have about the whole thing.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at May 8, 2009 12:04 PM

Ever since I decided to try to listen to what The What had to say rather than how he chooses to say it, I've found he often makes a lot of sense.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 8, 2009 12:04 PM

bxgrl, seriously??? I wonder what happened. I don't recall him saying anything that over the top.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 8, 2009 12:05 PM

Bxgirl, has M4L tried emailing Mr. B. to ask why?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 12:06 PM

He said he was going to. It was probably accidental because I can't think of anything he could have said.

biff- I agree with that but then there's this. While Mr. B posts the thread, most of us play happily along. Some of us really want a dialogue and there are those who love to vent their racism. I take responsibility for myself- I think subjects like this are important to knowing the dynamics of neighborhoods.

Yes there are lots of posters who use any opportunity to vent stupidly, and ignorantly but is no dialogue better? And for what its worth- What has never had a problem with venting his own prejudices while bemoaning Mr. B's. He does his own part in the "Garbage Covert Race/Class Warfare Bullshit"

Posted by: bxgrl at May 8, 2009 12:16 PM

bxgrl, I see your side too (and gave my own opinion in the thread in question). But I guess I did start to wonder as it went on what would really be accomplished. To whomever raised the point, I can see that, given the difficulties in trying to interpret on a blog the way in which something is said combined with not fully understanding where everybody is coming from (including their personal backgrounds and experiences), I'm not sure what resolution / agreement on such an issue could be garnered. Having said all of that, my comment wrt to The What was not just in relation to his post above.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 8, 2009 12:21 PM

"What has never had a problem with venting his own prejudices while bemoaning Mr. B's. He does his own part in the "Garbage Covert Race/Class Warfare Bullshit"

Bxgrl what's you problem????All the fucking time it's What, What What!!! You are not the defender of justice and decency of Brownstoner!! I'm not saying anything toward you but when I go deep then I'm a "Bad Guy". When the dialogue goes between me and someone else, you have to stick your fucking nose into the conversation!!! I have made peace with plenty of people here and quite frankly I don't want to get into another war with you just knock it off!

The What

Someday this war is gonna end...

Posted by: Return of The What at May 8, 2009 12:26 PM

Oh I don't think we'll ever have a resolution or agreement, but then, is that really the point of commenting? I mean, I would love to post something so brilliantly meaningful that everyone would smack themselves on the forehead, go "of course!" and we would have world peace. *sigh* Ain't gonna happen.

But I also hear what people are saying- even the racist jerks who post simply for shock value (and no, I don't include the What in this group). Racist jerks I dismiss- but I also hear a lot of the anger and fear other posters write about, and that anger and fear is on both sides. So we are more alike than we think. And less in agreement than we should be.but I hope we are all learning.

Posted by: bxgrl at May 8, 2009 12:27 PM

" Having said all of that, my comment wrt to The What was not just in relation to his post above."

Posted by: Return of The What at May 8, 2009 12:29 PM

And you, What, never take responsibility for being a schmuck. My point to biff was we all should take responsibility for posting on those threads. You play right into it. You revel in it- its your schtick.

I was speaking to biff- so why are you sticking your f*cking nose into MY conversation???? And FYI- your post was not addressed to anyone in particular so get off your self-righteous, poor me- I've been mortally wounded high horse and shut the fuck up.

Posted by: bxgrl at May 8, 2009 12:34 PM

bxgrl, I sure would love to think that thread did more good than harm in trying to promote race relations. But having just read through all of the comments up until a few minutes ago, it's hard for me to conclude that much good came out of the thread.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 8, 2009 12:37 PM

*taking a few deep breaths and finding my center of calm* I don't know that I expected good to come out of it but we sure got to know who is a racist, who is closeminded, who is elitist, who feels entitled- if knowing thy enemy is good, we at least got that out of it :-)

I'm the kind of person who wants to know where people stand. I don't like what I find often, but I've found very good people here too and that's like finding gold.

cobble, did you see the newest thread "217 Court Coming Down"?

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 8, 2009 1:46 PM

"cobble, did you see the newest thread "217 Court Coming Down"?"

I did, I was by there twice this morning. There's quite a crowd - police, surveyors, a fire truck, and a GIANT crane and basket, which was on the ground when I walked by. I think they are aiming to bring this down quickly.

I never knew it was a metadone clinic, I only remembered that it had been the Carpenter's Union.

Posted by: dirty_hipster at May 8, 2009 3:28 PM

Nice. I still have a set of Miss Piggie sheets. Love her.

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 3:28 PM

I don't have a DVR :( My home theater system does record but for the life of me I can't figure the damned thing out. I've had this puppy for about 4 years now and I'm usually good with tech stuff, but this one has me stumped.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:28 PM

Awww! Miss Piggie sheets! What color are they? Pink?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:29 PM

I never read curbed. Or any other blog for that matter unless Mr. B links to it for a story. I suppose I'm truly a loyal B'Stoner PL!!!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:29 PM

Snappy I had Raggedy Ann and Andy sheet when I was little did they have a blue Gingham check background?

Posted by: TownhouseLady at May 8, 2009 3:30 PM

I don't read any of those other bloge either with the same exception, Snappy. I enjoed the links once or twice to Park Slope Parents and the new one. Truly ridiculous.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at May 8, 2009 3:31 PM

Nope, they're white. Miss Piggy is wearing a a leotard and top hat!

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 3:31 PM

THL, my brothers had the blue checks and I had the red checked sheets :)

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:31 PM

Jessi that sounds too cute!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:32 PM

You guys don't read the Real Deal? That's how I found you...

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 3:33 PM

I also had the whole Holly Hobby set - blanket, sheets, curtains, dust ruffle and the doll to go on top of the bed. Her braids could be pulled - pull the left braid and she opens her eyes, pull the right braid and she closes them.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:33 PM

Rob, it's very close to Floyd NY, where we went for the last outing. I hope you can make it.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:33 PM

no, I can't actually do this rewrite. It'd be too offensive.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at May 8, 2009 3:35 PM

My mom bought me BOY sheets???!!!

I had the Holly Hobby ones too!

Posted by: TownhouseLady at May 8, 2009 3:35 PM

Weird, Snappy, now I'm picturing you to have a voice like Miss Piggy.

Your Holly Hobby set sounds super cute!!

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 3:36 PM

Snappy, don't they re-run those Bravo shows like 100 times a week?

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 8, 2009 3:39 PM

LOL Jessi!

THL, I think it might be so!!!

Dave, come on! Let's see that re-write! We need something to wake us up :)

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:39 PM

After my Holly Hobby phase, I decided I was too grown up for characters! I begged my mom to paint my room seafoam green. I had matching peach and green bedding. I look back on that now like GACCK! WHAT WAS I THINKING?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:41 PM

Rob, Waterfront Ale House is on the same block as Floyd! Just closer to Clinton St. Same side of the street.

Posted by: cobblehiller at May 8, 2009 3:43 PM

Biff, Hells' Kitchen is on Fox. I could watch it online a week late, but I'm really counting on Danny to cook Paula's ass off and wanna see it!!! I'm an instant gratification kinda girl :) I'll spend the weekend trying to figure out my Home Theater System and see what I can do about recording.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:43 PM

Snappy, could have post-bar Hells Kitchen viewing session in my apartment. I've got DVR and I live around the corner from the bar.

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 3:49 PM

Do you keep up with HK Jessi?

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 3:52 PM

I have in the past, but took this season off. Hot blondes tend to win. Are they still cooking the same food? Wellingtons.

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 3:54 PM

Snappy- you got mail.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at May 8, 2009 3:54 PM

Mopar- Ever consider buying in Newburgh, NY? It aint Bklyn but it's commutable.

check this out...

Posted by: TownhouseLady at May 8, 2009 3:58 PM

Yep, wellingtons and ...what the hell is that rice dish I'm blanking on???

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 4:00 PM

Risotto...he's mad for risotto and wellingtons.

Posted by: infinitejester at May 8, 2009 4:01 PM

Ha, ha.. the risotto!

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 4:01 PM

Ever eaten at his restaurant in Manhattan?

Posted by: infinitejester at May 8, 2009 4:02 PM

Bunch of donkeys.

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 4:03 PM

Yes, Jester, and it wasn't very good. I enjoy the decor, but the food was meh. You?

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 4:04 PM

I've had enough!

Posted by: infinitejester at May 8, 2009 4:04 PM

LOL...I love when he calls someone a donkey! I've gotta start using that line! I've never been to his restaurant. Truth be told, I don't really go for the high-falutin types of meals...there tends to be too many things in it that I don't like or am allergic to.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 4:05 PM

GET OUT! GET OUT NOW! When he tosses folks in the middle of service is the best!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 4:05 PM

This fish is RAW!!

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 4:06 PM

Yes, at the second-most pricey one - for those of you who don't know there is the super pricey place within the kind of pricey place. I was the only one at the table who didn't ask for substitutions. It was delicious but the portions were super small.

Posted by: infinitejester at May 8, 2009 4:07 PM

I emailed the TV critic at the Sun once, telling him to write a review of HK. That show is a manager's ultimate vicarious fantasy - being able to scream at employees who annoy you with no repercussions.

Posted by: infinitejester at May 8, 2009 4:09 PM

HOW LONG? HOW LONG ON THE F'ING DORI??? AW CHR*ST!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 4:09 PM

Snappy, what are you allergic to?

On second thought, the monkfish I had at the London was pretty good. It was the (busted) ravioli that was somewhat lacking....

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 4:09 PM

YOU'RE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE WITH RAW MEAT YOU COW! GET OUUUUTTT!!!

Ah, come on!

Posted by: infinitejester at May 8, 2009 4:11 PM

I'm allergic to nuts and nut oils, artichokes and mangoes. And, the list is far too long of what I don't like

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 4:11 PM

jester, I got your email. Thanks.

Can someone tell mopar about next Thursday too? I don't have her email.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 8, 2009 4:12 PM

Actually, the way he says "yes" at the end of every sentence, I've taken to.

"I think we should shake up the teams now, yes?"

"Bit too half-assed for my kind of restaurant, eh yes?"

Posted by: infinitejester at May 8, 2009 4:13 PM

Wow Snappy! I thought I had it bad being allergic to any and all poultry.

Weird thing is I can eat eggs.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at May 8, 2009 4:14 PM

Thanks, Six. That's hilarious.

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 4:15 PM

I went to a restaurant once that refused to serve me anything but dessert. They used a lot of nut oils in their cooking and were afraid they were going to kill me!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 4:18 PM

The 'yes' thing is hilarious. He'll be all, "YOU'RE F****D NOW, YES? YOU'RE A STUPID F*****G DONKEY WHO CAN'T COOK RICE, YES?" like you are supposed to agree with him!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 4:19 PM

When I become employed again (Please let that be soon!) I need to invest in a DVR I can figure out! I could get one through my DirectTV service, but I refuse to essentially rent one instead of just going to J&R and buying one.

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 4:26 PM

that's movie :)

Posted by: jessibaby at May 8, 2009 4:26 PM

Posted by: TownhouseLady at May 8, 2009 4:31 PM

He probably mutters "SHUT IT DOWN!" in his sleep!

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 8, 2009 4:33 PM

u wanna hear a really funny story speaking of going all gordon ramsey in the kitchen... when i was living with my ex a bit before we broke up his phone went off (and im not a snoop i SWEAR the phone was literally right next to me) where i was sitting, it was a text and on the screen popped up "I found someone we can f*ck on w. 104th st."

i was like OMFG took the phone and went all ghetto chick on his ass and i completely made him shut the kitchen down.

i guess now that i think about it doesnt seem like hells kitchen at all

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at May 8, 2009 4:47 PM

Oh My God Rob!

You need to write a book or start a blog (I'll so show you how if you want- email me) so yiou can document all these great stories and Rob-isms. I'm so not kidding either.

That one was great!

Posted by: TownhouseLady at May 8, 2009 4:48 PM

DIBS, haven't hear back from Jon if he's blocking my ability to post off the work IP address or if work firewall is blocking it. Strange thing is I can post on the forum page but not the home page threads. Am posting this via my home computer. Either way, guess I'm forced to be lurker mode during work hrs.

Anyhow, we can try for Fri lunch next time. if I continue to not able to post, reach me via crownofbk @ gmail.com

Posted by: more4less at May 8, 2009 6:31 PM

Back from work and posting in the wee hours. And working Sunday. Too much work this week. How very sweet of you to think of me re Thursday.

And THL, I looooove those photos of Newburgh. Well, now we know where to visit next. I like the look of Peekskill too.

Maybe we'll move up the Hudson after our thus-far non-existent child turns eight.
