Here's a FGVOTD for all us working stiffs who can't wait to get out of the office and enjoy the Memorial Day weekend. And there are plenty of memorable moments in this video.
I thought this might make up for the lower than usual amount of estrogen over the past couple of days in the OT, what with the absence most of the day yesterday of BRG, Snappy, cobblehiller, jessibaby and DIBS:

Hey Brownstoners-
Had an awesome wedding last Saturday. I like to say thanks to all for the kind words. We're heading to Italy as well, but not till the end of June.

Congrat's Fjorder!
Welcome to the married club, now take out the garbage.

Unlike many people, I love housework. well, my (slight) OCD forces me to keep our place spotless.
Posted by: Fjorder at May 22, 2009 9:25 AM
I think I'm insulted that my name is in the same sentence with estrogen and DIBS....huh?!?!
Biff, that's BRG, Snappy, Cobblehiller & jessibaby in that video and DIBS is the copy machine.
Those girls sure are dreamy!! It made my day ;-)

Congratulations Fjorder!
Have any of you guys seen Ida, the missing link, at the Natural History Museum? One of the most significant finds ever!

UGH! i waited from 530 til 930 last night for the cable guy to show up. did he show up? NO! plus i even put signs on the front door. and someone kept taking down my signs, it was mad annoying. i lost an hour's worth of pay at work to get home early for this. and i KNEW they wouldnt show up, im totally slightly psychic about stuff like this. i just KNEW it. we made the appointment like 2 weeks ago. we've had no cable or internet for 2 weeks! luckily we can steal internet, but not cable. 4 freaking hours waiting by the door yesterday like a dodo for naught! and then people taking down my signs!!?! grrrrrrr.
i think i might take my entire paycheck, cash it, not pay rent, and go on a spiritual journey somewhere and never come back.
and there's a damn fly buzzing around my head! wtf!?

"I think I'm insulted that my name is in the same sentence with estrogen and DIBS....huh?!?!"
Listing various women, estrogen and DIBS in the same sentence was the joke. DIBS should be insulted, but he won't be. And he won't need the joke explained.
Fjorder, congrats and welcome back.

M4L :-)
All the talk of the eye candy during lunch in SoHo and other places was frustrating as I rarely venture out of the Death Star from 7:30am to 6:30pm and I don't have a close view of the action on the street outside. So I have to rely on YouTube to compensate.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR and my coworker gave me a bunch of mcdonalds coupons just now and this one...
"Get a 6 piece Chicken McNuggets for 1.00. (1.49 in manhattan)" wtf? why is there an extra 49 cents surcharge here?!
oh ill TELL you why. truck deliveries are now inconvenienced on broadway cuz of all the new traffic rules. even our deliveries (i work on broadway) are inconvenienced with the new traffic rules. im all for bike and pedestrian lanes, but maybe put it on 6th avenue or something? or bowery? i dont know.
im am one giant crankburger today guys, sorry for my rants :)
hope you all have a good holiday weekend. i think im gonna try to get my butt to the beach.

Biff, I understood it. I get corny jokes. You obviously didn't get my retort. Geez, do I have to explain all my writing.
I thought you of all people, having been exposed to my writing, can read my sentence better.
"I think I'm insulted that my name is in the same sentence with estrogen and DIBS....huh?!?!"
By placing me and DIBS in the same sentence with estrogen is alluding that I'm equal to DIBS on a womanly level. And come on, we've seen DIBS, while he might look good in plastic pumps, comnparing his estrogen level to mine is...well insulting ;-)

I walked in the village yesterday and eye candy is definitely more in action than in Chelsea and midtown. It's days like this that I wish I worked in SOHO.

Kens, when are you off to AC?
Posted by: Biff Champion at May 22, 2009 9:54 AM
Mopar, to answer your question from yesterday, I don't know anyone in Beacon or Peekskill. We do Hudson Valley day trips a lot -- Storm King, Dia Beacon, Harriman Park, apple picking in Amawalk, etc. We hit Peekskill on Mother's Day -- went to the 12 Grapes wine bar for dinner. Cool place, great vibe, lots of live music, surrounded by central american grocers, botanicas, old school thrift shops, etc. Beacon is a bit more artsy and folksy in response to the Dia Beacon crowd and long-time association with Pete Seeger, who lives there.

yeah soho has the best eye candy for straight males. yeah a lot of these women and girls are pretty much unemployed and/or rich daddy's babies from all over the metro area, but even me as a gay man can attest to the fact that they are HOT and they like showing skin. the guys in the area during the day are fugly tho. manorexics in flip flops with beige tote bags over their shouldars? no thanks.

faithful - I love my vet: Dr Julie Morris at Animal Healing Arts of Carroll Gardens (on Henry). She never pushes vaccinations or anything (has in fact sent me elsewhere for treatment instead of earning money on prescriptions) and is wonderful with animals and just really, really nice. If you're in the area I would recommend her.

There’s been lots of talk on the OT about ‘Dreamy’. Yesterday Biff posed a link to ‘Sweet Dreams’ by the Eurythmics (and what was he implying?)
There are a lot of songs with ‘Dream’ in the title or lyrics. Here’s one that I love/hate.
OMD – Dreaming

(damn, the lyrics!!)
What are other songs with ‘Dream’? There’s so many more I can think of, but will let you all have a go at it.

GOOD MORNING ASSHATS. I successfully completed a day without brownstoner yesterday. It was cleaning, kind of like a colon cleansing in the case of not chatting with the Asshats.
Now I need to go out and cleanup the yard, spot varnish the boat, replace the kitchen sink trap and then it should be beer time at Pepe's On The Wharf.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at May 22, 2009 10:24 AM
Kensingtonian: I see her a lot more than once a month. We have to wait for the chicken to return from England - sorry you're feeling cheated on but scheduling a man-date involves delayed gratification!
I've always liked the food at Mimi's, though it's slightly expensive for what you get. Maybe you were there on an off-day. I hope they have air conditioning now. Have you tried the momos at Cafe Tibet?

very nice DIBS. you missed out on some good stuff.
recap.....1. OT was dead and not too interesting.
2. Mr. and Mrs. B are off to Italy on vacation and letting OT run wild and we can make racist remarks for a week I guess.
3. The What went off the meds as usual at the development watch thread and some newbie had to put him back in his place.
4. The WHAT is going to be an exclusive broker on Mr. B's house once they decide to sell and stay in Italy.

Sixyear, Is chicken from our hood? Then I'll definitely wait till he is back.
Food wasn't bad at mimi's. I just had better hummus before and their menu is not that varied for my tastes.
I never tried the momos and not really into that place anyways so I don't feel like I am missing anything. I am also disappointed with Picket Fence lately. Food is still good but their service started to lag majorly. They got rid of their usual waitresses and replaced them with owner's kids, nephews/nieces or something and they are horrible. Took us an hour to get an omlette, half an hour to get the check. I asked for salt 4 times and eventually had to get up, walk to the bar area and get it myself. Asked for juice when we just sat down from brunch and got it after I finished my food. Just horrible in general. I am not going back either.

I stayed up late last night reading a book about the Zodiac Killer. It was CREEPY!!!! Typical passage:
"Two fifteen year old girls picnicking at a remote lakeside campsite reported seeing a middle aged man standing near the treeline, observing them."
Every murder was like at some remote lover's lane or when he followed a woman late at night in his car. I'm glad to see the sun today.

Yeah, Picket Fence is really slipping. I only order the burger online from them - that service is dependable and the burger is still good (and fries, and homemade chips). I never go there anymore unless I have a ton of time on my hands, which I usually don't.
Chicken lives somewhere around us - I once spotted him with Mrs. Chicken in Pomme de Terre.
Biff, maybe the pub crawl could just continue through Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, PLG, and then down to Sycamore! Alternatively we could go from FG through Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, and Kensington...

i just read this passage in a book of short stories im reading now, and it's totally how i feel!
"Not that there's any big difference between the forest and the city, really. You know what I mean? It's all one huge thing now. Trees in the city, garbage in the forest. What's the difference? You know?"
that is SO true and so how i feel about the greening of cities. i KNOW people want more trees and green space in the city, and i KNOW it's probably a good thing. But i sadly feel like im losing the aesthetic of what i like to see. I prefer concrete, oil slicks, smog, garbage, nasty people cursing at each other, etc. I'm not a big fan of trees and people strolling along all nicey-nice, and birds chirping and flowers and crap like that. :( Does anyone else feel the same way? i am sure i will get a giant NO! but whatever, im throwing it out there.
i do like the ocean tho.

Can I rip/burn it off a CD and email it? Anyone?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at May 22, 2009 11:09 AM
Rob, I actually miss grass. It makes me sad that government has to block off small sections of the city just so folks can have access to it. I love living in a city, but damn! I miss the likes of Pittsburgh and Chicago where you got your city and accompanying city feel, but you also had a front and backyard to wiggle your toes in. Having to take a trip to a park to get some grass is just wrong!

Rob, my ideal would be to have that loft DH posted yesterday, but with a backyard :) That way I get my steel and industrial vibe along with toe-wiggle-ready grass at my disposal. Not too big of a yard though...I so don't to lawn work! A 12x12 patch would be good enough for me.

The What, in all seriousness I think the newbie and a couple of others were right. The inventory is just not as big as the population in Brooklyn. Brooklyn is consideresed the most densely populated in the 5 borough and as swine_flu posted a few days ago, we're up to 8.4 million in the 5 boroughs and growing. 1,000 extra condo inventory wont do anything to fill demand of this population size and new construction is down 91%. It is simple supply/demand econ 101.
Was Terminator Salvation that good? I guess it's going on my "to watch list". Was it better than Star Trek in your opinion?

Dorchester between 18th and 19th. Back at the end of June for a couple of weeks.
Shame about Picket Fence - I quite like it in the garden. BTW, do you guys go to San Remo? (head towards Cortelyou subway from Picket Fence) They've remodelled it in the back and Mrs Chicken tells me they've done up the garden to be like a little patch of Italy. I like their pizza so that will probably be a regular hangout for me.

San Remo is a good local place, but not a destination - though I haven't tried their restaurant yet. Speaking of local pizza, you should try LoDuca's at Newkirk Plaza...definitely a step up.
Have you (or chicken, or etson, or anyone) been to Mama Lucia's at Foster and East 17th? It's apparently really old school Italian with great service and erratic hours. I haven't been yet.

sixyears, that place (Mama Lucia's) always struck me as some kind of a covert mob operation or money laundering. It's been in the neighborhood forever, I barely ever saw anyone going in and our back in the day and it still remains in business. It's kind of like that other place that was featured on Brownstoner a while ago.

wasder, with pleasure. I'll leave it vague and you can provide any more details you want.
All, I was very fortunate to receive an invitation from wasder to the opening of a photography exhibit of his last night. I had offered to promote it beforehand here on the blog but, understandably, he was hesitant at this point to reveal any more details of his private life than he's revealed up until this point.
Regardless, for those who don't know, which is likely most of you since wasder is very modest, wasder is a very accomplished photographer and filmmaker, who (I believe) works primarily with musicians. His opening last night was hugely successful. The gallery, which was very cool by the way, was packed with people who had come to see his work. I was so impressed by the turnout, his lovely wife (whom I met for the first time), and, not least of all, the images he had on display. I really hope others from this blog who have come to know wasder also get to appreciate his work as I did last night. I don't want to give more information than he is comfortable with at this point.
I am so happy and honoured that he invited me to go. Thanks again, wasder.

GUH-ROSS! i just got back from mcdonalds with a coworker cuzs she had coupons. i ate two huge big macs. barf! then we decide to walk it off and went to the fountain in WSP and it was full of babies, NAKED! YUCK that water isnt cholorinated and it's recycled so it's the same dirty water. there were people in the fountain just enjoying the water hahah (i wish i was too) but still gross. the worst was some girl squatting over one of the spigots where the water shoots up. and yes, she was totally doing what you think im talking about.

Next Event is on June 18th.
Sixyear, I still maintain my stand. I used to be a regular at a place that I care not to mention on 18th avenue because they had great coffee and IT WAS a mob front. First they would give me weird looks when I went there with friends to play cards and drink coffee when I wasn't old enough to drink booze but then they kind of got used to us being there plus we didn't make the place look like a front and would just surpass us and go to the back room for their "activities".
Posted by: Kensingtonian at May 22, 2009 1:26 PM
haha sixyears. that card requires proper shoes, which aren't bar crawl friendly.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at May 22, 2009 1:29 PM
haha kens - we should organize a brooklyn "mob front" bar crawl. that would be hilarious!
Posted by: dirty_hipster at May 22, 2009 1:32 PM
"is there another brownstoner event being planned?"
Lechecal, I'm going scouting for places tomorrow with a few regulars here to determine a suitable place in Clinton Hill to have it. I want the next one to be a tribute to Mr. B and his neighbourhood. Details will follow on the specific place and time.
"Next Event is on June 18th."
Kens, thanks. I might have to reconsider and do this June 17 as it seems one of the Champettes has a school performance that night I'll need to attend. I will firm up everything for sure next week, once we decide on the place this weekend.
Posted by: Biff Champion at May 22, 2009 1:33 PM
Boooo to the 17th. I have a flight from North Carolina landing at JFK at like 7. I'll have to shlep from the flight straight to the bar then. That would suck but doable I guess.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at May 22, 2009 1:43 PM
"haha kens - we should organize a brooklyn "mob front" bar crawl. that would be hilarious!"
Yup, hilarious...well, right up to the point where someone puts a hit on you.
Posted by: jessibaby at May 22, 2009 1:45 PM
Kens, JFK Airport is so annoying - you'll NEED a drink afterwards!
Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at May 22, 2009 1:45 PM
Wasder....very nice!
Posted by: TownhouseLady at May 22, 2009 1:46 PM
wasder, congratulations!
Posted by: lechacal at May 22, 2009 1:47 PM
Kens, if you're flying jet blue, terminal 5 has some serious bars. one of the guys at Milk and honey (the mecca of cocktail bars) did their drink lists. i would venture you can get better drinks at JFK then many other neighborhoods in brooklyn (cough park slope cough)

Congratulations wasder! So glad your show went well!

Bocca Lupo - on Henry and Warren.
Posted by: jessibaby at May 22, 2009 2:19 PM
Thanks guys....good recommendations. Let's see what hubby is up for later.
Cobble, did BH get any of the choco ginger?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at May 22, 2009 2:19 PM
"Bocca Lupo" Stellar food, but NOT cheap!
I was good, and BH did indeed get some - although I was just looking for the bag...and I can't find it. I think he hid it from me! : )
Posted by: cobblehiller at May 22, 2009 2:24 PM
Cobble, how dare he hide chocolate from a girl!!!
There wasn't that much in the bag, I'm surprised it wasn't gone in one sitting. I know I would have polished it off in 10 minutes.
I'll be down on Grace Court later and probably going to stop by Sahadi to pick up some goodies for our road trip, should I get some more for you.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at May 22, 2009 2:32 PM
BRG, actually, you know what? I think we did eat it all! I was sooo tired I fell asleep at 10pm, but just a little while earlier I think BH pulled them out and we ate them!
Yes, please ask Charlie to order 2-3 extra cases just for me and BH! ; )
No, but thank you really, I have a feeling the weekend won't go by without a trip up there to fetch some! : D
Posted by: cobblehiller at May 22, 2009 2:35 PM
Did the What just call Rob "a unique creature"? Rob, the What has a crush on you!
Slopefarm, I totally blew it and didn't make any good Memorial Day weekend plans so maybe we will go to Newburg or Rhinebeck for the day.
Rob, I really do love the subways and crowds of New York, but I have to see green grass a few times over the summer or I go insane.
Posted by: mopar at May 22, 2009 2:41 PM
Cobble: While there, try the Choco covered cashews, they're the freshest I've had.
And my sister loooves the chocolate covered coffee beans from there. These aren't in front where the other nuts and chocoate covered stuff is, so you might not see it, but behind, where the guys weigh the nuts.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at May 22, 2009 2:42 PM
Thanks everybody!
Posted by: wasder at May 22, 2009 2:43 PM
I actually always loved staying in NY during the holiday weekends because it emptied out. Walking the normally crowded streets when they are empty is for me one of my favorite things to do.
I'd always rather leave when everyone is bustling about.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at May 22, 2009 2:49 PM
"Choco covered cashews" "chocolate covered coffee beans"
Great! Another reason to zip up to Sahadi! Really I should have gone today - tomorrow might be ok since it's the holiday weekend. It will be pretty quiet.

It's most likely a woman b/c that's what happens to all those female body builders. My question is, why would you do that to yourself?
I really don't understand the appeal.

CH, I'll be in your hood tomorrow - showing some friends around the area (to convince them to move there vs to west village)
Posted by: more4less at May 22, 2009 3:01 PM
M4L, Are they nice? Because I think we are over-saturated with asshats here! ; ) Make sure to show them Cobble Hill Park!
Enjoy, wave if I see you on Clinton Street!

Posted by: LincolnSlope at May 22, 2009 3:36 PM
Lincolnslope you got me so excited because I wanted to tell him that I was in Park Slope yesterday and couldn't find a parking spot. I wanted to ask him what is the best way to score a spot in PS. I did have model friends with me ;-)
Posted by: bayridgegirl at May 22, 2009 3:37 PM
Oh and he would tell you alright, because he probably bought a parking condo 15 years ago for $10,000 and its' worth $100,000 now! ; )

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at May 22, 2009 4:36 PM
M4L, as much as I love DIBS, not interested in that way. 1)Seeing someone 2) I hope he covers it up, the way that boy talks. And I thought you were straight? :)
Posted by: LincolnSlope at May 22, 2009 5:03 PM
L'Slope, straight & married. pointed out the good looking asshats to highlight there's EYE candy albeit DIBS not around
