Hasker on Smith Bites the Dust

Hasker is calling it quits, reports Pardon Me For Asking. The home design store located at 333 Smith Street has a sign posted in its window saying that it will close at the end of May. PMFA asking notes that this space was first a bagel shop and then, briefly, a wine and cheese bar before becoming Hasker. Wonder what its next incarnation will be? GMAP

Another one bites? Damn! This commercial fallout so reminds me of what happens at the end of 'Casino' when the old guys (oxygen masks and all) meet in that court room, "The way I see it, why take a chance?". But somehow unemployment is slowing down, huh?

When Smith St. started atking off in the early 1990s, it was because rents were cheap. Rents are going to have to adjust for the new business climate.

WHAT?!? I was in around the holidays to pick up gifts and they were out of a bunch of stuff. Seemed like they were doing ok the few times I dropped by. People (including myself) were buying things. They had cute, original, reasonably priced stuff. THIS BLOWS.

I walked down Smith Street last weekend and was shocked to see how many stores have closed. Really is a shame.

Could it be that all the anti-development sentiment pumped up by Pardon Me For Asking and others, is driving away the buyers? Or at least driving up rents for residential and commercial alike by opposing every new development in sight?
