Booker Again Predicts Nets Won't Make It To Brooklyn
"I'm going to go way out on a limb here and let you know maybe more than I should... I am confident now more than ever that the deal in Brooklyn is just not going anywhere. I think there's going to be a comeuppance very soon where the team is going to go up for sale. That's my prediction--I really do believe it. I'm working on this issue more than I ever imagined I would, because the Nets in Newark would have a significant game-change, in terms of the energy and the excitement and the job opportunities and economic investment in our downtown. So it's something I'm working on a lot. I've watched the deal very closely. I know people that are involved in the deal. It does not look like it's going anywhere in Brooklyn." — Newark Mayor Cory Booker on WGBO radio

When I told you this two years ago everyone laughed at me!
Here is the NEW home of the Newark Nets!
The Prudential Center, in downtown Newark, NJ, hosts about 200 events a year, including NHL New Jersey Devils hockey, Seton Hall basketball, MISL Ironmen ...

Brooklyn got hype and a hole in the ground for the next 40 years. I wonder how many retards brought or build because of the Ratner Hype Machine. The Nest was never coming to Brooklyn, it's was all a land grab pay for by Tax Slaves. Have fun with the new Brooklyn with unfinished contraction and abandoned Condos!!!
And you sill believe everything is going to be OK????? Come on Dumbasses I await your reply..

Actually, don't you think most of the "retards" bought in spite of Atlantic Yards not because of, What?
Posted by: brownstoner at May 15, 2009 9:46 AM
Worst kept secret in the world. This is never going to happen. And its true What, most people bought around here despite this development not because of it. Hard to find too many people living in Ft Greene or Clinton Hill that were for it anyway.

I didn''t laugh at you on this one What. I laugh at all your other mindless rants but as they say, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once is a while . . . .broken clock twice a day . . . however you want to put it.
Point being you're an ass.

What, glad to see you and bho in agreement. We can rule out schizophrenia. ;) Seriously, I think you'd be surprised how many of us asshats are AY skeptics or opponents. Go back through the threads and look at all the forum posts from 2-3 years ago from people concerned, indeed fearful, about buying or moving too close to AY. It is mostly the developer/realtor crowd that championed this on the site. Many of the homeowners you like to attack who live near the site in PH, north PS, FG/CH etc. were against this from the beginning and saw this as destructive to neighborhoods, not a boon to Brooklyn. I know you like to go on attack, but this time you have misidentified your enemy. Brooklyn survived the loss of the Dodgers, and I think the failure of the Nets to arrive here won't cause us to tank, either. I'm a hoops fan and would love to have the Nets here for that reason, but they were always a stalking horse for a development deal that really didn't belong here for many reasons.

"Actually, don't you think most of the "retards" bought in spite of Atlantic Yards not because of, What?"
Brownstoner I was deep into Real Estate in the beautiful days 2003-2007 and every 'tard was dreaming of a big payoff when Atlantic Yards was completed. Did you know the Jackass who extended his building on the corner of Vanderbilt and Dean?? The one with the Brick Over Pizza parlor in it! That Jackass spent 500k building that eyesore and ran out of money! I'm willing to bet their is no C/O and he's renting it out!
All of the new Condo construction on Pacific and Downtown Brooklyn was because of Atlantic Yards and now we have Urban Blight for years to come. Great Job Retards! Welcome to the 70's...

zthere is no evidence to shw that there was a rush of people expanding or buying because of AY. If anything, all AY did was blight an area that was already coming back on its own.

This "Blind Squirrel" was find nuts all over the place. I rather be a Ass and everyone knows me. I'm a Ass and I will wear that like a Badge of Honor.
Here is another prediction- In six month the whole financial world is going to implode. That will be the start of the Greater Depression and the Ghetto would like to thank you for improving the 'hood'. The newly built Condos will become "Low Income" housing. Thanks Reatrds!

So, What, you're talking about commercial landowners hoping to benefit from AY. How could you have never noticed everybody here owns residences?
Wow, turns out the What just rants and never bothered to ever read this blog. So he's even more obnoxious than we thought.
Posted by: traditionalmod at May 15, 2009 10:07 AM
most likely Corey will win and get his nets to Newark
Newark needs that much more than we need a Bball team here in Brooklyn

" Brooklyn survived the loss of the Dodgers, and I think the failure of the Nets to arrive here won't cause us to tank, either. "
Oh no, OK. Take a walk this weekend around the area and see all the vacant lots. Then walk Downtown Brooklyn on Bridge and Lawrence St., Then walk up Myrtle Ave and come back to Pacific St. After all that ask your self one question: "Where will the demand come from to support this nonsense"?
One thing I know- The retards is not "in tune" with the environment of Brooklyn.

As a Brooklyn homeowner who bought in the last couple years despite AY not because of it, I hope Newark gets the Nets and it helps Booker continue improving his city. I think it's great.

Let's make it a "What" thang instead of focusing on the issue at hand! No comment on the AY but, it's all The What's fault! Just blame me for AY not getting built, LMMAO. Suckers!!
Oh BTW It will go downhill from here! Between the lovely NY Times piece on moving back to Manhattan I'll say the Exodus will begin this summer. Buh bye retards, nice knowing ya!

If anything, people did NOT buy in the AY area, especially on the Prospect Heights side. The thought of endless construction, dirt and noise scared off many people from otherwise primo houses, and lowered property values.
I do agree, What, that the Nets are better kept in Newark, where a stadium and associated perks are already in place. I also agree with you that the whole thing was a land grab bid, and that there will be vast swaths of empty lots there for years to come. I've said that since day one.

Did Cory also predict the sun would rise in the east tomorrow and that if you drop a hammer it will fall?
Anyone could see this coming for over a year. Good luck, Newark!
Posted by: Brettson at May 15, 2009 10:44 AM
i'm sure Newark needs it more than BK. fine.
Ratner sucks.
Posted by: ftgreenepark at May 15, 2009 11:14 AM
Talk about a best case scenario. Newark gets some economic activity that it actually needs and Brooklyn is saved from a neighborhood-wrecking boondoggle. I just hope that Ratner has to pay for the mess he's already created and that the jackass politicians that supported this get the boot they so richly deserve. So will they rebuild the damn Carleton bridge already?

I think the what is on point on this. All those hotels, condos were fuled by the vision of a 24x7 downtown with a sports team that MM was pushing. AY dampened the sales of homes/condos close to the footprint but it fueled the speculation.
Posted by: BH76 at May 15, 2009 11:32 AM
"and now we have Urban Blight for years to come."
The area doesn't look any better or worse than it has in the last 40 years. It was f**ked up pre-AY and remains so, post-AY. Nothing has changed.
Posted by: East New York at May 15, 2009 11:58 AM
One thing's changed - we had $50 million for affordable housing before our pols gave it to Ratner so he could buy land for his arena.
Posted by: Johnny at May 15, 2009 12:30 PM
What makes this so humerous is that booker knows about as much about what's happening with this project right now as you do johnny.

Funny Corey Booker seems to think getting the Nets to Newark would be a win for his city (and no one objects-and he remains the hero) but if Marty Markowitz says the same thing regarding Brooklyn - you all say he is an idiot.
I am afraid Corey is right - and I know it will be a loss for Brooklyn - since I would really appreciate having a BB team within a 5min walk, BUT you people are counting you chickens again, since other than losing the arena and the Nets - this change would have ZERO effect on Ratner - who frankly probably doesnt want to build an arena anyway (it was always his loss leader) - he'll just wait till the next cycle and build his towers anyway (as he should) sans Arena.
Posted by: fsrg at May 15, 2009 2:10 PM
Corey has an arena sitting there already -- deed done. He doesn't need billions in taxpayer handouts. So it is a win for him.
Posted by: BH76 at May 15, 2009 3:25 PM
If I remember correctly, the arena was first. Then Ratner added the whole AY thing to get more traction. In any case- lousy concept and lousy idea. I hope the Nets go to Newark- its a win-win for everyone there and hopefully a good thing for Newark. I don't think the hotels were built on spec for the Nets. Its more a case of jumping on he bandwagon once they saw how well the Marriot was doing. Before that, for at least the last 20 years or more no one took the idea of a major hotel in Brooklyn seriously.

Anyone with any interest in Brooklyn who defends Bruce Ratner needs to check their heads. Furthermore, the court decisions you're linking to don't make what Ratner is doing any more right.
