Streetlevel: Watty & Meg Coming to Court Street

A new restaurant called Watty & Meg is scheduled to open at 248 Court Street at Kane later this month. Gothamist, which reports that the space (formerly occupied by Caffe Carciofo) will have 60 seats and feature an open kitchen, speculates that the food will be Scottish. Anyone heard anything more about it? GMAP

"Getcher haggis! Chopped heart and lungs, boiled in a wee sheep's stomach! Tastes as good as it sounds!"

I grew up about 100-150 miles south of the Scottish border and I am struggling to think of enough distinctively Scottish dishes to fill a whole menu.

Scottish cuisine is heavy on mutton, game, game birds, salmon and skate (manta rays), potaoes, bread and butter.
But in my experience Scottish diets consist mostly of liquid sustenance.

Does nobody know that the food from Glasgow is the best?
Look out for local favourites ; Vindaloo, Madras and chops on the side.

How will the owners stay sober long enough to manage the restaurant??
Full disclosure: Two of my granparents are McLean & Kinary.

Kinary is more irish, no?
Although the Scots/Irish are more or less the same folks genetically.

Sounds like you all should lay off the single malt. My sources say the food will be upscale comfort food.

We stopped in to see the space on Saturday while work was still going on. Very nice woman (presumably one of the owners, but I didn't ask) welcomed us in and said they'll be opening this week and that the food is NOT Scottish - but "new american." They've done a nice job with the reno. Looking forward to sampling the food when they open.
