Streetlevel: Dumbo's Auto-Post Office Opening Next Week

It's been several weeks since the USPS truck that used to set up shop on Front Street abandoned Dumbo, so we were pleased to learn last month that an automated branch was planned for the retail space at 84 Front Street. We were even more pleased to learn from some postal workers meeting in the space this week that it would open sometime next week. Too late for tax day unfortunately.

Can't get a Certificate of Mailing at an APC, so 'tax day' utility to me is limited. If a filer expects a refund, proof of timely filing less important, possibly to the point of being wholly unnecessary.

My father went to the General PO (11201) which does not stay open late on tax day anymore. You could use the APC machines to get a post mark attached to the tax forms people were mailing but the line was long and moving slowly as the customers were tryong to figue out how to us the machine. A every nice clerk who came to check the shute decided help everyone by postmarking the letters on the spot.

Strange that a "Luxury" condo would want a USPS office in their storefront......

Triple-A tenant, if not very sexy. Also, wasn't the business improvement district heavily involved in brokering this?
