Some Doors from Bed Stuy

bed-stuy-doors-0409.jpg
Following up on an earlier post about windows in the neighborhood, Bed Stuy Banana trots out three doors which have recently caught her eye. The door in the middle is from the Elim Church. Do you have a favorite front door somewhere? Send us a pic and tell us why you like it.

Many doors of Bedford Stuyvesant were stolen. When other neighborhoods where gentrifying people would come to Bedford Stuyvesant to get there doors. I really hate seeing these old home depot doors on this homes built over 100 years ago.

Slow news day?

amzi hill, you don't literally mean "gentrifying people" from boerum hill or wherever came to bed stuy and picked/broke locks and pulled doors off their hinges in the dead of night? that seems . . . unlikely. my impression is that these cheap doors are installed because the old ones are too expensive to maintain/preserve/restore.

No actually doors WERE stolen in Bed Stuy to be placed on doors in other neighborhoods. Many manels and other orginal detailings were robbed. Some were sold to "Sanford and Son" like junk yards by crack heads feeding their habits. Our door is a replaced door and albeit not crazy ugly, not original.

If you follow the link to the blog and read the captions for each door, you will see that they were not photographed for their beauty, but more for some ironic quality, with the exception of the church door.
