Today's FGVOTD was submitted by none other than our beloved usual suspect, TownhouseLady.
I wasn't in New York during the '70s, but I imagine that if one was to see someone else on the subway wearing a trench coat similar to the one Kermit has on, one would suspect there was a good chance there was nothing underneath.
Thanks again, THL

Wake up call to the Asshats....
The SARS epidemic began in early March, 2003 and when official records started being kept there were 167 cases worldwide by 3/17. That number peaked OVER 3 MONTHS LATER at 8,465 on 6/18 of which 7,084 (84%) were in Hong Kong & China. The swine flu is progressing at a much more rapid rate and has already been found in 12 countries globally.

haha cg - haven't had my caffeine yet!!
anyone see someone on the train hacking their head off this morning and get instant paranoia about swine flu?
Posted by: dirty_hipster at April 28, 2009 9:26 AM
jessi, if you're here today, check the OT from yesterday evening. You missed 2 people vouching for sixyears and his offer to take you on the date so here comes DATE #1. We want to hear all about it!!! from both sides.
Where did BRG go yesterday? Soooo much re-write potential and barely anyone taking stabs. (here is another one)
Posted by: Kensingtonian at April 28, 2009 9:28 AM
this is the only time I'm glad that I drive to work vs. train ride. think it's time to stock up on 1 of those masks - ie see people coughing, put the mask on
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 9:28 AM
DH... ha ha I was affraid to cough or even touch my nose if it itches with the fear of being clobbered by a mob. Everyone was looking around paranoid.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at April 28, 2009 9:29 AM
DH...I was looking out for it but didn't hear one person. When it happens you'll see subway riders give them a wide circle. You'll probably see people here start yelling at them as well.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 28, 2009 9:30 AM
I guess I'll continue riding my bike to work until this whole thing blows over. I would rather worry about colliding with an unsuspecting tourist on the Brooklyn Bridge than catching this flu.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 28, 2009 9:32 AM
haha yeah fellas - there was someone on the L this morning and people were giving her a look like she was a leper.
i think i might start rocking those surgical masks like people did in china during the sars epidemic
Posted by: dirty_hipster at April 28, 2009 9:34 AM
Are people wearing medical masks on the subway?
Posted by: lechacal at April 28, 2009 9:35 AM
I have no desire to catch swine flu, or any other communicable disease, but it seems to me that common sense in reporting is about nil. Commercials and lead-ins to the news are screaming SWINE FLU PANDEMIC!!!!!!, then when you actually get the facts, all cases (yesterday) in the city are from St. Francis in Queens, from a school trip to Mexico, and most importantly, all cases were mild. Half the kids are getting their 15 minutes talking about their symptoms. Yet, I've been seeing masks in midtown, and headlines everywhere.
OK, you take sensible, low key precautions, but after that you can either choose to live in a bunker, get a clean room like Howard Hughes, or throw caution to the wind, and wade into the sea of humanity that is New York, and take your chances. What else is there?
Posted by: Montrose Morris at April 28, 2009 9:36 AM
remember vaguely SARS hammered real estate (along tourism, retail,...) in HK. Next few weekends will be interesting to see if this FLU hammers the open house activities
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 9:37 AM
lechacal...I haven't seen anyone wearing masks yet. i bet they are down in Chinatown.
Unless you have the right type of mask, its practically useless. You need one that protests from virus particles and they are not easy to come by.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 28, 2009 9:38 AM
Yeah Montrose - it's nuts. Based on the media coverage you would think cases of the Ebola virus were found in Queens. Relax people.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have an absolutely disgusting smoker's hack (it's probably cancer with my luck. i havent gone to the doctor yet) and this morning when i was coughing i got nasty looks!
*rob*
Posted by: PitbullNYC at April 28, 2009 9:39 AM
Yes, MM, all cases outside of Mexico have been rather mild. But, new countries with cases almost doubled overnight. Australia had 0 a few days ago and now has 90. New York went from 8 to 28 to 40 in 2 days.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 28, 2009 9:40 AM
haha Rob - be careful!
Posted by: dirty_hipster at April 28, 2009 9:41 AM
Sounds like a good way to get a seat on a crowded subway. Just break into a coughing fit and don't cover your mouth.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 28, 2009 9:42 AM
whatever i gave everyone dirty look back. at least coughing can get you a nice comfortable seat with room on both sides :)
it's weird i decided to take the M train today instead of the R since it passed. i thought the M goes over the bridge? i was looking forward to that, but it didnt :(

The impression I get from reading is that it isn't deadly at all. You'll be fine if your immune system isn't compromised by anything (age, auto-immune diseases) The only thing worrisome is it is immune to 2 of our many anti-viral medications.
Once again, the american media sensationalizing something to get ratings.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at April 28, 2009 9:45 AM
The masks don't really work.
Posted by: IMBY at April 28, 2009 9:46 AM
Biff, that's actually also a good approach defense-wise. cough so people stay away from you
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 9:46 AM
MM, common sense and cool heads do not sell papers- screaming headlines do. The authorities don't know why there are so many deaths in Mexico, but one article did note that only some of the autopsies have been done, and some of those deaths were found not to be from Swine Flu. So at this point there are no real numbers on the actual lethality of the flu. They'll probably know more today.
It is frightening, but like MM says, all you can do is take basic precautions at this point. A large scale panic would be far worse..
Posted by: bxgrl at April 28, 2009 9:47 AM
allergy season is kicking in so anyone's guess why someone is coughing
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 9:48 AM
i bet more people would be scared of seeing someone picking their nose and wiping on the poles than a little cough here and there, no?

After seeing the thread above, I say we all blow off work and meet at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to stroll amongst the cherry blossoms. Anyone game?
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 28, 2009 9:49 AM
I heard on the Internet that Skittles will prevent swine flu.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 28, 2009 9:49 AM
I get the pandemic part, Dave, but are the cases all mild? Nobody wants nausea, headache and all of the other symptoms, but is that worse than any other flu epidemic that goes around yearly? I say innoculate those most likely to have more serious and perhaps life threatening cases, caution people to cover their mouths, something we were raised to do anyway, at least we used to be, and wash their hands, also something we are supposed to do. We may be a nuclear, high tech society, but in terms of basic public health, we don't seem any better than Europe in the Dark Ages.
We have to be able to get around and function. Especially now, with so many people needing every minute of work to survive. This reminds me more of the orange alerts the city was in after 9/11. Most of us were out doing what we had to do, some listened too much to the news, and stayed under their beds.

i love mass panic mode amongst new york city for some strange reason. (it makes people less likely to get all up in your business about stuff). if that makes any sense, not sure im explaining it right.
*rob*
Posted by: PitbullNYC at April 28, 2009 9:51 AM
The masks would have to be rated for biohazards and such to really be effective. Not only that, but unless they have an airtight seal with your face, forget it being effective.
How about coughing while covering your mouth. Or you could be inviting a mad mob attack.
Posted by: bxgrl at April 28, 2009 9:51 AM
bxgrl, no mob dare attack. threaten them with some warning coughs and say you're willing to spit and they'll disperse like roaches

And I just read that the Head Rabbi in Israel (Ultra orthodox) has declared they will not call it "swine" flu because swine are not kosher. It must be referred to as "mexican" flu. This also frightens me.

This flu thing seems like bs to me. Normally wouldn't a particular strain of the flu be found in different countries around the world? How do they even know it started in Mexico? There could have been people sick with this who recovered already all over the place and no one thought anything of it because they got better. For whatever reason these people died in Mexico. Now it's a deadly swine flu spreading world wide by the second! Now anyone in the world who has the flu is being tested for this and if it's the same strain it's being sensationalized to add hype, sell newspapers etc. etc.
I happen to be suffering severely with allergies right now and was riding on a packed subway car yesterday when I started coughing. People were looking at me like "How dare she? Doesn't she know about the swine flu!?"

Here’s some choice words or phrases from today’s OT that could have been re-written. Knock yourselves out. I give up.

That old firehouse does look really nice. There is another old firehouse that I saw redone into a living house right on the West Side Highway by Holland Tunnel and I always gaze inside when I drive by and dream that one day I'll own one of those. They did a ridiculous reno and still kept the sliding pole.

AAAAAAAH!!!!! WTF!!?? Why didn't they just heal nathan with claire's blood like the last time? so now pretty much no more sylar? (my favorite character)
What about when sylar accidentally cuts himself and he magically heals? I don't think erasing his memory will stop him from doing the involuntary powers he has.
oh - and he can't fly either.
Very upset - but of course i'll still watch.
and water girl now? please..

Kens, hilarious line re: the Challah!
"Yeah, I do feel a little badly that all of you have put in a good word about Six and nobody even knows if I'm female! I'd be happy to meet Biff somewhere in BH for gender verification..."
JB, I'm perfectly happy to do a fully clothed gender verification (is that an oxymoron?). Name the date and time. I'll have my adam's apple measurement device at the ready.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 28, 2009 11:15 AM
Dh- I know!! Ido think however Nathan, at the point was too far gone but I knew the Ice Princess would be back (remember the eyeball after she crumbled to dust)?
Agreed- Sylar is my favorite- he's easily the most complex and interesting character. What I found interesting is the ever-changing interrelationships and characters. You hate someone and then you start to feel sorry for them. I used to like Matt Parkman better- lately he's been too whiney but he came through anyway. But shouldnt he be able to fly since he probably absorbed nathan's power?
Posted by: bxgrl at April 28, 2009 11:21 AM
Thanks, Biff...we'll leave it up to Sixyears; if he needs verification, I'll pick up some muffins (or scones from cranberry's) and meet you at the promenade.
Posted by: jessibaby at April 28, 2009 11:21 AM
sixyears, do you want me to do the undercover (so to speak) work? I think JB and I both cross the Brooklyn Bridge each day for work. JB, we can meet on the bridge or we can grab each other muffins (re-write opportunity).
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 28, 2009 11:26 AM
Yeah - that's what I like about the show - everyone seems to have the ability to be good or bad, and a good amount fall in the gray area. I'm pretty sure everyone has been a hero and a villian at some point.
Did Sylar ever get the power to absorb powers from other people? I thought that was just Peter and his Father. I thought Sylar had to physically remove their skull and look at their brain like a clock.
But Sylar is the best (good Sylar was even awesome) - I heard a rumor that the actor that plays him is gone from the show, so the character will live on through the actor that plays nathan (which sucks) :(
Posted by: dirty_hipster at April 28, 2009 11:28 AM
"I'll have my adam's apple measurement device at the ready."
Are you sure you can handle this? I read you had a hard time measuring an opening to fit your appliance.

"you had a hard time measuring an opening to fit your appliance."
BRG - this doesn't even need a rewrite.
Posted by: etson at April 28, 2009 11:32 AM
The actor playing Sylar is in the new Star Trek movie (he's Spock- perfect, no?) so maybe we're entering the episode cycle that was filmed while he was shooting the movie.
And I think he he learned how to absorb powers without necessarily killing the victim. Remember when he was told he was Nathan and Peter's brother? They began training him.
I also find Claire's dad and mom really interesting. I'm still waiting the verdict on Mr. Muggles. (interesting name though)
Posted by: bxgrl at April 28, 2009 11:34 AM
jessi, are you ignoring me?
Biff...thanks.
I say let's move the party to May or just have another one then.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at April 28, 2009 11:44 AM
"Remember when he was told he was Nathan and Peter's brother? They began training him."
Yeah - I remember that. Heroes is frustrating because there seems to be alot of plot holes that they'll forget about, and then all of a sudden they'll address them (sorta)
Hopefully everything will be clarified next season!

This is a fight between Bayridgegrl and myself. I suggest that you don't get involed with it! My argument is that most architecture as origins in Egypt and I would love some fucking ignorant retard to refute it!!!!!!!!
"All Architecture has origins in Egypt!"
You claim it's in Egypt...It's not. I also said the start of a 'complex civilization' with built cities. Sorry 'retard', it didn't start in Egypt.
Well tell me is there a 'complex civilization' that predates Kemmet (Egypt)???
Ancient Egypt
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Egypt
Ancient Egypt was an ancient civilization in eastern North Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River in what is now the modern nation of Egypt. The civilization began around 3150 BC[1] with the political unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under the first pharaoh, and it developed over the next three millennia.[2] Its history occurred in a series of stable periods, known as kingdoms, separated by periods of relative instability known as Intermediate Periods. After the end of the last kingdom, known as the New Kingdom, the civilization of ancient Egypt entered a period of slow, steady decline, during which Egypt was conquered by a succession of foreign powers. The rule of the pharaohs officially ended in 31 BC when the early Roman Empire conquered Egypt and made it a province.[3]
The many achievements of the ancient Egyptians included a system of mathematics, quarrying, surveying and construction techniques that facilitated the building of monumental pyramids, temples, obelisks, faience and glass technology, a practical and effective system of medicine, new forms of literature, irrigation systems and agricultural production techniques, and the earliest known peace treaty.[6] Egypt left a lasting legacy: art and architecture were copied and antiquities paraded around the world, and monumental ruins have inspired the imaginations of tourists and writers for centuries. A newfound respect for antiquities and excavations in the early modern period led to the scientific investigation of Egyptian civilization and a greater appreciation of its cultural legacy for Egypt and the world.[7]

Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 12:33 PM
What and BRG,
You are both right and wrong in a way. Buildings and cities do pre-date Egypt. However, the idea of architecture as a methodical science and city planning how we know it was really developed in Eygpt around 3000BC (12th dynasty I think).
What I find interesting, is that architecture also developed in Peru around 3000 bc and spread to other parts of central and south America shortly after. Many of the same types of structure and building were used in Peru as in Egypt, but they developed independently.
Disclaimer: I didn't fact check any of this, just going of memory from college

Origin of the Ancient Egyptians
by Cheikh Anta Diop
The general acceptance, as a sequel to the work of Professor [Louis B.] Leakey, of the hypothesis of mankind's monogenetic and African origin, makes it possible to pose the question of the peopling of Egypt and even of the world in completely new terms. More than 150,000 years ago, beings morphologically identical with the man of today were living in the region of the great lakes at the sources of the Nile and nowhere else. This notion, and others which it would take too long to recapitulate here, form the substance of the last report presented by the late Dr. Leakey at the Seventh Pan-African Congress of Pre-History in Addis Ababa in 1971.1 It means that the whole human race had its origin, just as the ancients had guessed, at the foot of the mountains of the Moon. Against all expectations and in defiance of recent hypotheses it was from this place that men moved out to people the rest of the world. From this two facts of capital importance result:
(a) of necessity the earliest men were ethnically homogeneous and negroid. Gloger's law, which
would also appear to be applicable to human beings, lays it down that warm-blooded animals evolving in a warm humid climate will secrete a black pigment (eumelanin).2 Hence if mankind originated in the tropics around the latitude of the great lakes, he was bound to have brown pigmentation from the start and and it was by differentiation in other climates that the original stock later split into different races;
(b) there were only two routes available by which these early men could move out to people the other continents, namely, the Sahara and the Nile valley. It is the latter region which will be discussed here.
From the Upper Palaeolithic to the dynastic epoch, the whole of the river's basin was taken over progressively by these negroid peoples
Cheikh Anta Diop
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheikh_Anta_Diop
Cheikh Anta Diop (29 December, 1923–7 February, 1986) was a Senegalese historian, anthropologist, physicist and politician who studied the human race's origins and pre-colonial African culture. He has been considered one of the greatest African historians of the 20th century

Come on What, we have homework to do.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 28, 2009 12:45 PM
What,
your last post has nothing to do with the argument at hand. We're talking architecture here, not pigmentation. Furthermore, during the time period we're talking about (5000bc), the mesopatamians were also black, so your race argument gets thrown out the window anyway
stop the black on black architectural racism
Posted by: Troy McClure at April 28, 2009 12:46 PM
Troy- the What said : " All Architecture has origins in Egypt! ", referring to the construction of buildings per se. Since Egypt is not the olderst known civilization, and civilizations do not develop without building cities, he is wrong. As a science, Egypt developed architecture to an incredible degree, but that's nt what the What is saying. And the ancient Mesopotamians built Ziggurats which are earlier than the Egyptian pyramids, and in a few cases can be said to rival them as archtiectural structures.
Posted by: bxgrl at April 28, 2009 12:48 PM
You know what...I'm turning to the Bible.
Adam and Eve being the first humans on earth lived in the Garden of Eden and that is believed to be in Mesopotamia. And I'm sure they had a swanky brownstone.
So there, architecture started in Mesopotamia.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 28, 2009 12:51 PM
The ancient Mesopotamians were Semites- not to make this a racial thing. But for accuracy. And I refer and defer to MM:
"Many great and inventive things, people, traditions, inventions and scholarship came from the many peoples of Africa. As a decendant of those people, I am as proud of my history and their genius as anyone. However, great things also came from other parts of the world, other peoples. I see no disrespect to my ancestors to give others credit for their accomplishments, or to celebrate the wonders they created. It takes nothing away from Africa to do that, and reinforces, to me, the wonders of man's creativity and artistic abilities. We are all the family of man, it's all good."

Kens, yes, I saw the last episode. The Jewish guy was actually very likable, albeit not too tall. The other guy was way too full of himself (although the woman he picked was gorgeous).
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 28, 2009 1:36 PM
yeah obviously. That was a given. The jew kid was really nice. I hope it works out for him and the girl. She had a really nice body but the face was so so. Patty sucks. My 2 best friends moved out to LA and I can honestly say that most of their friends who are jewish girls are really really hot BUT they would never go to one of those matchmaking places to meet a millionare. All they need to do is take a walk in beverly hills (which they tend to do since they live there!) and they'll have plenty of set up dates that same day.
The other dude looked 40 and he was only 30. He obviously wasn't looking for love. I liked how he brought the whole mishpuha to the room to select a girl for him.

It's mostly a set-up just like the rest of the reality shows. I know for a fact that most are fake or semi-fake because my friend was actually one of the guys on Date My Ex with Joe De la Rosa.
I also read the interview with Sex Toy Dave and he said he only went on to promote his business and that he didn't pay Patty a penny. They don't pay to be on the show as she claims they do. The last girl the Dave was with was hottttt and kinky. Things I would do with her....

Posted by: Kensingtonian at April 28, 2009 1:57 PM
Kens, I totally agree with your 1:55. I am sure the guys on the show get set up for free. That's likely why Patty plays it so tough and seems to have an easy time getting rid of her "clients" whom she doesn't like. If those were the ones paying $40K or whatever it is for her service, I highly doubt she would kick them out of her club as quickly as she does on the show.

All you people into reality shows are suckers. Remember back in the day when television stations had to actually hire decent writers, engaging actors, etc etc to actually make us watch in order to earn advertising revenue? Now they just get a bunch of train wrecks, throw them on TV for some "prize money" (which doesn't amount to what an actor on friends got paid for ONE episode) and you all eat it up. So the stations are happy as they have cut their costs and are making the same/more money!! Demand better TV people!!

DH, I read and educate myself enough. When I watch TV, I want to watch nonsense train wrecks where I can just laugh and not use my brain to any extent. To me, that's good TV and apparently millions of viewers agree with me. Otherwise, all stations would be running reruns of Friends and Cheers all day long. You don't see me instructing you what to watch and what not to and what makes "good" TV.
Having said that, I also am a big sucker of Monday night sitcom line up (Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, etc) and my all time fav is "Married with Children".

For me it's frustrating when a good series gets cancelled because a network would rather push their reality show of the moment hardcore. Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 28, 2009 3:12 PM
Ok Biff, if it'll rectify the problem and assure everyone I'm legit, I'll meet you.
Where?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 28, 2009 3:13 PM
DH,
Agree with you about The Black Donnellys, I'm adding Life On Mars to that list.

Ok Biff, if its my rectum that's the problem then I'm not the legit ass everyone was wanting to meet.

and annoying.

didn't jb say she was bi? maybe you can both try and pick up some other chick
Posted by: dirty_hipster at April 28, 2009 3:15 PM
jessi jessi, don't take the usual suspects aka pathetic loosers seriously. You should know that by now!
At first they thought that I was a fake (I think they still do but shhhh, don't tell anyone).
If you keep on responding to it, they will just eat you up alive I tell ya! They are a loving bunch I am sure. I'll personally get to meet everyone at the next gathering as long as my stupid co-op board president doesn't decide to make the next meeting that coincides with the gathering just like he did the last time!
Posted by: Kensingtonian at April 28, 2009 3:15 PM
Kens, Jessi is cute. BRG is hot. F the coop bd mtg - even if it's sch'd for that date
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 3:18 PM

Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 3:19 PM
DH for jews, bi means that the person is willing to eat sweet and sour shrimp WITH pork fried rice ;o).
I think Biff will agree.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at April 28, 2009 3:19 PM
M4L I wish but unfotunately I am the treasurer and HAVE to attend but if that happens, I'll make him reschedule.
CH you know I kid. You like that name and you know it!

Kens, if he sch's it on that date, threaten that you'll run to take his president role
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 3:23 PM
okay more4less, your turn to be called out.
"BRG is hot."
What makes you say that?? We never met. You weren't at the last two shingdigs? or were you, with a different name on your tag??
What gives?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 28, 2009 3:25 PM
"Biff, if people actually care about whether I'm real, then I'm happy to meet. I think they may just want me to go away..."
JB, I care. Since you're happy to meet, how about 7pm at Cranberry's?
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 28, 2009 3:26 PM
BRG, I've got great memory. there's been tons of posts written by others about you. 1 such case was during the big hair pics. I deduce from all those posts the ODDS are high that you're HOT
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 3:29 PM
Biff, can you do 7:30?
Posted by: jessibaby at April 28, 2009 3:33 PM
JB, 7:30pm it is.

Okay everyone.....7:30 at Cranberry's. PRONTO!!!!
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 28, 2009 3:36 PM
BRG, still thinking you've met me b4?
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 3:36 PM
Kens, you want to come too? I can do the introductions and leave.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 28, 2009 3:37 PM
Biff, Kens can only hide around the corner. No intro allowed. I'm sure 6yrs doesnt like someone cutting the line on him
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 3:38 PM
oh isn't this interesting
so Jessi confirms - well I fear poor Biff will be sitting at the bar alone waiting and wondering......

Ummm...just curious as to why this is all playing out publicly instead of through emails?
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 28, 2009 3:42 PM
"Mishegoss"
I've always wondered how that was spelled.
JB, Biff is about 65-70 years old, he has a BIG pot belly, and he likes to wear Argyle sweaters under his ratty old bathrobe.
Posted by: cobblehiller at April 28, 2009 3:42 PM
BRG, pretty sure no one here has met me b4 (not knowingly) other than MM and bxgrl.
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 3:42 PM
M4L, you got everything right except for my age, my height and my hair. But I'm definitely ripped. Or at least my jeans are.
"well I fear poor Biff will be sitting at the bar alone waiting and wondering......"
G10, it's not a bar, it's a bakery/sandwich shop. But I have a feeling I'll be waiting nonetheless. I pass right by there every day around that time anyway, so it's no biggie, but I hope she does show.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 28, 2009 3:43 PM
Because it's a BIG FRAUD THL.
But pay me no mind. I'm cynical that way.

Ok, ok...what does Biff look like?
Posted by: jessibaby at April 28, 2009 3:45 PM
Okay more4less, you've passed the test....now I remember you saying they came over to give you suggestions.
This whole Jessi thing has me so paranoid, I feel like Cobble from a couple of months ago with the whole Miss Chiff thing.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 28, 2009 3:45 PM
"Ummm...just curious as to why this is all playing out publicly instead of through emails?"
Maybe it's just me, but I'd NEVER set up a date on a public blog. Even more pressure than normal to make it "work." Big mistake.

What difference what Biff looks like. I can't imagine a mob scene out side this place at 7:30pm (well unless we all decide to show up). Just go up to the one guy standing there and ask if he's Biff Champion.
And for the record, Biff is not as old as they're saying he is. But I'm sure he'll be wearing plaid pants ;-)
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 28, 2009 3:54 PM
hahahha - I'm Irish - I love a good fight
but this Jessi thing is sorta getting boring
Rob - um just head over to 12th street and 7th avenue in PS. I call it Bad News Bears block as it's filled to the brim with every ethnic/race/age group of kids with the hydrant on full blast

oooooooooh thanks for the tip gemini!!! i love open fire hydrants. when i lived in harlem tho id go with my female roommates. i dont want people to think im some kind of pedophile or something! i wish there were more watery things to do in this city. isnt there like a giant slip in slide in williamsburg every summer? tho honestly that sounds really REALLY disgusting now that i think about it.
i can only imagine what would be festering on that thing.
if i had a backyard id SO get a kiddie pool to drink margaritas in like those two on real housewives. anyone been in the ocean yet? how is it? i think im going to go swimming this weekend on coney island if it's nice out (and by swimming i just mean going knee deep and then just bending over and dunking my head in the water)

Giada would never wear plastic pumps though so lets just call her "Giada Light" or "Giada Trash"

Posted by: Biff Champion at April 28, 2009 5:07 PM
Miss Chiff said she was 11233, this has yet to be confirmed! : )
Posted by: cobblehiller at April 28, 2009 5:07 PM
What if Jessi is just....Jessi? Why the suspicion?
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 28, 2009 5:09 PM
don't forget the key piece of my profile. I love crown heights north and own a place there that I'm planning to rent out. Don't recall any big CHN boosters here other than MM, bxgrl, ENY, and Amzi
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 5:14 PM
My money's on ENY, then. Amzi lives in BS and isn't exactly an OT lurker.
Posted by: slopefarm at April 28, 2009 5:18 PM
Man, what have I missed?
Posted by: wasder at April 28, 2009 5:23 PM
m4l is the 1 & only until & unless someone pulls similar ID stunt as those pulled on Cobblehiller (3 "L" version, cobblehillbaby)
Posted by: more4less at April 28, 2009 5:24 PM
Looks like I missed all the fun!
Who has been outed and who is going on a date with whom?
And that Giada deLaurentis looks HOT!
Posted by: the chicken at April 28, 2009 5:24 PM
M4L, it wasn't ID theft, it was just weird coincidence, I think...
And cobblehillbaby is probably unaware of my existence!
Posted by: cobblehiller at April 28, 2009 5:26 PM
wasder:
BRG is a confirmed HOTTIE!, and has been deemed irreplaceable
jessi is meeting Biff at Cranberry's in BH for a 'gender check' at 7:30 unless she's a) a complete fake or b) emailed him to change the time.
M4L's identity is in question
THL swears up and down and sideways that she is ONLY THL
11217 is still entertaining for a variety of reasons
Snappy has a bad case of allergies, as does BH
11233 is a gay man, who knew?
Those are pretty much the highlights from my birdy perch!
Posted by: cobblehiller at April 28, 2009 5:32 PM
"My money's on ENY, then. Amzi lives in BS and isn't exactly an OT lurker."
Huh? What in God's name are you all talking about?
Posted by: East New York at April 28, 2009 5:33 PM
I finally clicked on the Giada deLaurentis link and she DOES look exactly like BRG, except I think BRG is younger, her face is prettier (and more symmetrical) and she is in better shape.
And she doesn't wear plaid.

I was just flipping through 'A Streetcar Named Desire'...so many great lines.

Pay attention ENY!! ; )
You're on the short list for M4L's alter ego!
Posted by: cobblehiller at April 28, 2009 5:35 PM
cobble,
If you are still looking for work, see if they have any jobs at Cliffs Notes. Excellent summary of today's plot.
Sorry to have disturbed you. There's strong speculation that M4L is someone else, and clues are: hangs out primarily in Clinton Hill, also in Jersey City, is a big fan of Crown Heights North, seems to know Montrose and Bxgrl offline. M4L limited the CHN posters to you, MM, bx, and Amzi. I guessed that you are M4L. Apparently not.
Posted by: slopefarm at April 28, 2009 5:37 PM
OMG, all these compliments thrown at me….. Aaah thanks, but seriously, please stop. It's becoming embarrassing now, as I don’t see myself that way.

"Pay attention ENY!! ; )

Oh. Sorry. I'm in swine flu hell today. Every reporter in the country wants to know about swine flu today, and since one of my clients is a travel insurance company, it's been non-stop.
I do like posting here, and enjoy the back and forth, but seriously I don't have enough time to post as myself AND someone else. I'm not Dave.
Posted by: East New York at April 28, 2009 5:48 PM
Thank you Slopey!
But I left out the Swine Flu/subway riding discussion! Yikes!
BRG, just clam up and take a bow already!
Posted by: cobblehiller at April 28, 2009 5:49 PM
BRG, who cares what you think. I think you're HOT. I think I'm HOT. The NOT's, I zip my lip (dont want to get smacked) and close my eyes (my eyes are for eye candy only).

Hey everyone,
Argh, first no internet at work and then my clueless neighbors who gave me free wireless for a year lost their internet today - or maybe figured me out.
Anyway, thanks for the verification offer, Biff (and you too, Kens - maybe we could meet at Sycamore to add to the intrigue!). No need to go out of your way for me though - but we are all desperately curious!
Since when is the OT anything but junior high-ish? C'mon, folks, this is an opportunity to relive our most awkward days...
If JB turns out to be "bananas and grapes" I will laugh just as much as everyone else on here! If you can't laugh at yourself in a situation like that, you're just hopeless. I'm reminded of a story I read where two women met online in a lesbian chat room, fell in virtual love, and decided to meet up. They were both men - but each thought the other would "understand" why they engaged in such deception...the relationship remained unconsummated.

BRG, I am NOT more4less, but I agree...if you DO look like Giada, you're HOT! Particularly so when you're wearing your little plaid skirt.

"giada is pretty yeah...but her personality is a dud. her show sucks biff balls."
Well, I've never actually watched the show, Biff...er, I mean swine_flu. I've just seen her in various images. She looks good!

Countdown:
60 minutes to Jessi Gender Verification Check.
Maybe tomorrow that should be the Feel Good Video of the Day!

LOL, BRG.
Posted by: jessibaby at April 28, 2009 6:38 PM
Jessibaby, it's 6:45, depending where you are in Manhattan, even if you're downtown (at the foot of the bridge), I suggest you start walking the Brooklyn Bridge NOW to meet Biff by 7:30pm.
You don't want to be late. Men won't wait around forever for you!

I skimmed most of this thread, and feel rather out of touch, but the swine flu is scary after reading those 90's sensationalist nonfiction books that I did read. The thing about it that worries me the most is, we don't know. It just got here, basically. Obviously, considering the number of kids in Queens who got it from one school, it spreads fast. But frankly, none of them have had it long enough to know how serious it will be.
Plus, it may mutate and become more virulent. That would suck.
Also, there's an open fire hydrant (probably) on South 2nd between Roebling and Havemeyer. Also, it is a charming block.
And the Speakeasy, I really like that place. Meet-up should be there.

Posted by: Miss Chiff at April 28, 2009 9:13 PM
And the verdict is???!?!?!?!?!
Posted by: the chicken at April 29, 2009 3:19 AM
Miss Chiff, my apologies for miss-taking you for a woman! I think it was BRG that thought you might be M4L! [Not me! Imagine that!] : )
Posted by: cobblehiller at April 29, 2009 9:03 AM
No problem, Cobble!
BRG just can't keep up with all of her fans.
What happened on the open thread today?!
