Today's FGVOTD features Men Without Hats, a band from Montreal, Quebec.
According to Wikipedia, "A popular but unconfirmed tale is that the name originated from a misread announcement to one of their early gigs as "Men Without Pants" by a francophone MC in Montreal."

Feel Good Thought Of The Day:
Do you live in an expensive area near the water? In a flood zone? If this occurs, Bed Stuy will be the new waterfront Brooklyn Heights. Read through to the last paragraph....
April 21 (Bloomberg) -- An unstable volcano on the
Caribbean island of Dominica risks causing a tsunami that could endanger 30,000 people on the nearby island of Guadeloupe, a team of U.K. researchers found.
One flank of the volcano, called Morne aux Diables, or
Devil’s Peak, shows signs of collapse and could send a million tons of rock into the sea, Richard Teeuw, a geologist at the University of Portsmouth, said today in a telephone interview.
The collapse would produce waves up to 3 meters (10 feet) high, which would hit the coast of Guadeloupe, 50 kilometers (31 miles) to the north, within “minutes,” Teeuw’s team said in an e-mailed statement. That would endanger residents and tourists
on the island, a French territory.
“At some point in the past a large portion of this volcano collapsed into the sea, and more urgently, there’s a large chunk that looks set to drop in the near future,” Teeuw said. “You’d get a small tsunami, and you’d only have a few minutes warning in Guadeloupe.”
Dominica isn’t the only volcanic island where landslides could trigger a tsunami. The collapse of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma could send up to 500 cubic kilometers (193 cubic miles) of rock tumbling into the Atlantic, sending waves as high as 25 meters across to the U.S. East coast, researchers at the University of California and University College, London, said in a study in 2001.

Snappy, what is it with African Americans and water / swimming? I was watching my highbrow series "I Love Money" and when everyone had to jump into a lake, the four remaining African American contestants looked like they were being asked to jump into a giant vat of acid. They were petrified. Why is that?

Biff, it's all about the hair! I refuse to do pools because chlorine and a black woman's hair cannot be and never will be friends! As far as any other non-chlorinated water sources, most of us refuse to wet our hair unless we are washing it. We don't have that 'wash&go' hair and it takes way too long to get it back into the style we want (unless your hair is super duper short).

Hey Rob/Pitbull, biking will come back to you. I just started biking to work after about 15 years of no biking. There are tons of bike lanes in CG/CH/BH, and over the weekend I hit Park Slope, where there were also lots of bike lanes (and nicer Cherry Blossom trees, what up with that? fancy nabe!).
Any biking commuters on the board? Rode home in the rain yesterday and felt like a popsicle by the time I got home. Though did see a couple other intrepid commuters on the Brooklyn Bridge, though probably about 10x less than usual.

Snappy, that must be it! Now that you mentioned it, I do recall the women mentioning what the water was going to do to their hair. I also learned the hard way that even joking to an African American woman about her hair (i.e., implying it's a weave) is just about the most dangerous, and dumbest, things a person can do. It makes "your momma..." jokes seem totally tame by comparison.

LOL Biff! I personally have never understood the weave thing. I guess unless your hair totally refuses to grow, why get one??? I know a guy who used to say about women with weaves: 'Yeah, it's her hair. She's got a receipt for it, doesn't she?!?'

two-wheel petrol power is the way forward! Considering the amount of traffic in NYC, why is scootering not more popular?
Posted by: the chicken at April 21, 2009 10:02 AM
I usually bike or walk to work when it's nice out. Biking cuts my commute from approx 25-35 minutes to about 15.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at April 21, 2009 10:05 AM
chicken...I suspect there is much greater danger of you being hit, perhaps purposefully, in the traffic lanes. This is not a city, nor a country that is "scooter friendly."

Last year hubby and I considered getting a scooter. We looked at the Vespa. We would have had to get the bigger model so we can take it onto the highway. It was too big for me to handle. In the stopped position, my feet didn't reach the floor. I wouldn't be able to ride it alone.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 21, 2009 10:09 AM
CG Ups, not really. If the weather is manageable in the morning, I ride. I have the luxury of being able to take my bike up to my office and store it there, so if the weather is bad after work, I just keep it in my office and ride it home the next day.
Delivery guys are tough!
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 21, 2009 10:09 AM

"two-wheel petrol power is the way forward!"
the chicken, I wish everyone felt that way. We are in need of more bicycle lanes and should be promoting cycling like they do in Denmark and other bicycle-friendly cities.
"I usually bike or walk to work when it's nice out. Biking cuts my commute from approx 25-35 minutes to about 15."
DH, cycling is also, by far, my fastest way to work. 15 minutes door to door. It beats walking by 25 minutes, the subway by 10 minutes and car (which varies widely depending on traffic).

Are you under 5'3? That's the only way your feet wouldn't touch the ground on a Vespa. Even then, you should be able to reach by leaning the bike over slightly and then you stabilise with one leg.
"chicken...I suspect there is much greater danger of you being hit, perhaps purposefully, in the traffic lanes. This is not a city, nor a country that is "scooter friendly."
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 21, 2009 10:06 AM"
In my experience, NYC generally has very courteous drivers (how quaint that you stop to let pedestrians cross the street!) so I would have no qualms about riding in town.
I also suspect a lot of it has to do with the relatively low gas prices that you have and the "low status" that it probably has. However, it is definitely the most environmentally-friendly way of getting around after pedal-power.
Posted by: the chicken at April 21, 2009 10:23 AM

Chicken, I'm 5'-3".
We were looking at the Vespa that can be taken on the highway, as we do alot of driving.
FYI - most scooters are not allowed on highways.
I forget the model number. It's bigger, heavier and wider than the average scooter you see zipping around the streets. I was barely touching the floor with my tippy toes even leaning forward. I'm a weakling I don't think I can hold up the bike, I was scared I was going to tip over.
This was a year ago and unless they made that particular model smaller and managable for petite women I have to pass.

Rob, if you want a bike route, found this awesome website

It gives you options for shortest distance, safest route, etc. My guess would be for the slope up to Manhattan Bridge to SoHo.
So funny that the newest post on Brownstoner is about a new bike shop! Was actually going to ask people for recommendations. Got a tuneup at Gotham Bikes and it was $100. GACK!

"Got a tuneup at Gotham Bikes and it was $100. GACK!"
CG, I need to bring my kid's bike in (we're closest to the bike shop on Atlantic, near the HOD). I'm wondering if it is cheaper to just buy a new bicycle than get a tuneup in this city!

Posted by: Biff Champion at April 21, 2009 10:54 AM
BRG, I would definitely not advocate a scooter for highway riding. You really need something 500+cc for that and although their are some "maxi-scooters" that are larger capacity, you then lose a lot of the benefits in town.
Get a 50cc or 125cc scooter for town and just treat it as a city runabout.
Have a look at the Honda Ruckus, which has a very low seat height and is very light and maneuverable.
http://powersports.honda.com/2009/ruckus.aspx
or the Yamaha C3, which is also very light and has lots of storage.

CG, there's a bunch of bike shops along Coney Island Ave.
http://www.philharrington.net/sbrnyc/bikeshop.htm#Brooklyn
No idea whether any of them are any good but they aren't primo range bikes like Gotham and their rents will be lower so I bet their service charges will be cheaper.
There's really nothing that can't be fixed on a pedal bicycle with a very small selection of tools so may be worth going on a short course.

I don't know if I qualify as GOTD, since I have posted on Brownstoner on several occasions, though not on Open Thread.
Anyway, I wanted to post my story. In Apr 2008, I signed a contract for a new construction condo in Greenpoint. By the time the unit was finished and ready to move in, the market had collapsed. I decided to bail out on the closing and threaten to sue to recover my 10% deposit (there were some misrepresentations regarding square footage), but the Developer didn't give a crap. Then, about a month after my "default", the Developer decided to negotiate with me. After a few months of haggling they reluctantly dropped the price by 13%. However, I had drawn a "line in the sand" at 15% reduction. Neither side would budge. Facing this impasse, the Sponsor simply refunded my entire deposit. I have to presume they just wanted me out of their hair, so they could sell the unit to someone else. As far as I can tell, it is still on the market, asking a mere $25k more than my "line in the sand" price. I have no idea why they were so stubborn, insisting on chasing the market down, continually refusing to face reality -- and are still busy chasing the market down. Whatever.
During this ordeal, I learned a lot about the risks of new construction, about mortgage contingencies, and about the real estate market in general. I can't believe how ignorant I was a year ago. Today, I have decided to remain a renter for the time being. In fact, my wife and I have decided to rent a place up in Nyack, NY - a little town that, one could argue, is a bit like Brooklyn in terms of it's historic buildings, walkability, and eclectic and diverse population -- but it's a longer commute to midtown (about the same as Bed-Stuy really), and obviously a hell of a lot smaller.
Since I will soon be living "upstate", I guess I should stop lurking on this board. However, I wanted to tell my story before saying goodbye.

And I’m not going to keep both (in town and outta town vehicle) as that’s wasteful. We don’t use our car during the week, we take the train or bus, but I’ll admit it gets used a lot on the weekend.
We also looked at hybrid cars last year....and then the caddy fell into our laps. While it doesn’t get the best gas mileage, it is an older car and I somehow feel like I’m recycling.

DIBS - I suspected I'd get a response on my Bed-Stuy comment, which I admit was an exaggeration. Nyack is a 40 min drive to midtown, with no traffic. By mass transit, I think it will take a bit more than 1 hour (door to door), but I am not sure yet. Does it really take only 25 minutes from where you are? What stop, on what train??

Welcome Paul. Yes, the A train (Express) gets you to 34th Street in about 25 minutes from my house (Utica Ave stop). You're only 12-15 minutes from the first stop in Manhattan which is Broadway/Nassau. It only makes 4 stops between me and manhattan and is generally very fast.

Yeah, I will probably continue to lurk, despite moving upstate. In fact, if the commute is intolerable, I may very well make a hasty retreat back to Brooklyn.
In any event, I still plan to continue to hang out in Brooklyn as much as possible (my friends are mostly in Williamsburg/Greenpoint), and keep my eye on RE market trends.
And of course, I enjoy reading the sometimes-witty banter on this site - where the average IQ seems about 50 points higher than the other RE site I pay atention to.

"I decided to bail out on the closing and threaten to sue to recover my 10% deposit (there were some misrepresentations regarding square footage), but the Developer didn't give a crap. "
Get on your knees and thank GOD! You was very lucky!
"During this ordeal, I learned a lot about the risks of new construction, about mortgage contingencies, and about the real estate market in general. I can't believe how ignorant I was a year ago. Today, I have decided to remain a renter for the time being. In fact, my wife and I have decided to rent a place up in Nyack, NY - a little town that, one could argue, is a bit like Brooklyn in terms of it's historic buildings, walkability, and eclectic and diverse population -- but it's a longer commute to midtown (about the same as Bed-Stuy really), and obviously a hell of a lot smaller."
Make sure you are near the Train Station! The car commute can be a little rocky!

Aw, Dave, I'm still reeling from you calling Florence "cheesy". It may be overrun with tourists, but it's still one of the most gorgeous old cities in the world. And you can walk the entire city in a couple of days, and see something new each time. Dare I say it, it's like being in a very large ART AND ARCHITECTURE MUSEUM!
Snappy, you got the hair thing right. Biff, you don't ever want to go there, ever. I understand where the black hair people are coming from, from straightened hair, to people wanting to touch my fro in the 70's to braids and weaves. Hair is a Big Deal.

And I agree with Rob about Coney Island. Though wine bars are cool too.
We rented a 2 BR duplex in Nyack, which seem to be in the range of $2,000 - $2,300 per month. We have 2 full baths, plus an extra half bath (I don't know why there are 3 toilets, but why not), a huge balcony overlooking the river, washer/dryer (what a luxury), 2 designated parking spaces, and it's walking distance to more than 20 restaurants, bars, etc. The only question is how hellish will it be to cross the Tappan Zee each morning to get to the MetroNorth. We'll see. I fantasize about buying a boat...

April 21 (Bloomberg) -- Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner
told a congressional panel that the “vast majority” of U.S.
banks have more capital than needed.
He also said there are signs of thawing in credit markets and some indication that confidence is beginning to return. “Indicators on interbank lending, corporate issuance and credit spreads generally suggest improvements in confidence in the stability of the system and some thawing in credit markets,” Geithner said in prepared testimony to the committee overseeing the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
Earlier today, Geithner said the program has enough money for bank rescues even under “conservative” estimates.

Paul C.,
Welcome to the OT!
Good luck on your move, but I think you may find that commute across the TZ to be a killer. I work in White Plains, and some of our staff live across the river in Rockland. Most have to arrive early to avoid sitting on the TZ for half-an-hour.
Once again, good luck.

I used to live in Grand View NY (just south of Nyack) there used to be a hi-speed ferry I would take to midtown. When that stopped running I moved because the commute was hard.
I never took the TZ, I took 9W down to the PPKWY and then to the George.
I agree with Montrose that Florence is the most gorgeopus museum-city I have ever seen. Toledo Spain is my second favorite. Go in late Nov. or ealy Dec. The weather is perfect and there are few tourists.

Leading Economist Decries Power of Wall Street "Oligarchs"
http://tinyurl.com/de27yo
America’s Crisis Resembles that of Emerging Markets: While at the IMF, Johnson saw so many financial crises that the core problem became old hat: In the free-wheeling growth years of an economic boom, the politicians and oligarchs of an emerging market like Russia or Argentina would get so close that eventually they would meld into a politico-industrial complex. As long as the boom lasted, this cozy relationship never bothered anyone--because everyone was getting rich. Fast forward to the latest market crisis--the one in the United States. The pattern is exactly the same, Simon Johnson says, with a mutually beneficial money-and-power corridor now running between Washington and the modern oligarchs Wall Street.

Good luck PaulC,
Nyack is great. I grew up not far from there. Great old homes, river views, restaurants. A good vibe. Also, if you like hiking, you are not far from lots of ways to access Harriman.
What -- that is great advice you gave Paul about the train station. Too bad Nyack doesn't have one. Actually, Nyack ahs gone through a lot of the same waves of "gentrification" you bemoan about Brooklyn. Other than the grand homes along the river, where the likes of Helen Hayes used to live, Nyack used to have a much larger portion of working class families and immigrants, and greater ethnic diversity. Many more people running trade and craft types of businesses -- furniture restoration, 5 and dimes, gritty antique shops when antiques were cheap. Also, it was Rockland County's hippie haven in the late 60s early 70s, and a center for all kinds of arts. Now it has waterfront condo developments and higher priced restaurants layered over its earlier grittiness. Meanwhile, all kinds of beautiful old homes have been fixed up.

Plus the cathedral there is mostly made up of what they stole from the Americas. I've crossed the pond countless times to got to spain, sometimes just for a weekend. Not a big fan of Barcelona, too much like new york. Was in San Sebastian on 9/11, had the most peaceful day on the beach and get back to the hotel and was just overwhelmed. Here's the email:
"Myrna Millington's home, where we rallied in February, is scheduled to be auctioned on Friday, April 24th, at the Queens County Courthouse. Myrna's lender has refused to work with her loan counselors and is going ahead with the sale of her property this Friday.
88-11 Sutphin Boulevard
Jamaica, Queens
The auction begins at 11:00 AM
We will be standing alongside Myrna and we will attempt to stall and/or disrupt the sale of her home. We will be looking to fill the room with Home Defenders who will bid $0 in protest of the sale of her property.
If people are able, we are asking you to get there at 9:00 AM so we can fill up the courtroom."

I would say Limestones like these are not going to see a drop to $1.5mm. They are ridiculous in beauty, access to transport and amenities, and just works of art. I think of them like antiques...not just homes. I am not sure if the wealthy that buy these limestones (now, not back in the day when Park Slope and BK in general were a bit shadier) really look at it as an investment into an asset but more as an investment into something beautiful where they can raise their families.

I bought the book and it sat on the shelf for a long time. Then I bought the audiobook from Audible. It's very well done. Highly recommended.

Paul, the commute south via the parkway is much easier than across the TZ and then down the Sawmill or Sprain Brook. Those roads are nightmares. The Palisades approach to the George is by far the best, of course when you get over the bridge, you still have to deal with Manhattan traffic. The ferry was sooo nice, but they went broke. Nyack is nice but Grand View is my fave. I rented a house there, not one of the real cliff-houses, living in one of those would be like a fantasy.

BRG: the last time I was in Toledo, there was a contingent of young soldiers there from the Spanish army, on some assignment. The Spanish army provides their soldiers with the tighest, most ass-hugging khakis that you have ever. What a dream....the architecture...the hunky cadets....sigh!

I just got off the phone with a real estate agent who says as of last week, banks are now requiring 25 percent down on three-family houses -- I think she meant even if you plan to live in it.
Uh-oh!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, right, nobody in prime Brooklyn cares because they're already above the jumbo limit. I forgot.

Looks like you could buy one from anywhere in the country and pick it up or have it shipped.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 21, 2009 2:51 PM
Dave, not sure you were speaking to me, but they should get an agent. Or maybe you know this already. They could also go directly to publishers who do that kind of book, but very likely any editor they speak with will tell them to go get an agent first.
Posted by: mopar at April 21, 2009 2:52 PM
25% down - another reason for prices to drop. Yeah Yeah. Make the wait worth while.

mcKenzie, the Spanish Gov't must also provide the navy with the same tight fabric. One year during fleet week hubby and I were out looking at the vessels and came across a Spanish boat....and my god what a vessel!!!

3pm - time for pie & ice cream talk again
Posted by: more4less at April 21, 2009 3:03 PM
I'm so slow at this, no wonder i'm such a bad OT poster.
I just finished readng the book "God is not Great" someone asked about it about fifty postings back. It was interesting. he tried to be fair and critizise every major religion but I feel some got more criticism than others. The bottomline is that Holy Scripture is mostly unintelligible and inane when you really think about it and that Islam is basically a derivative of Judaism and christianity and not terribly original. There are certainly whole books in the old testament that you say to yourself what the f...k are they talking about? But he gave that a little short shrift. It was good bedtime reading. By that I mean it wasn't too exciting. I read a lot of books on the subject of religion.
Posted by: mcKenzie at April 21, 2009 3:03 PM
yeah, someone's birthday is celebrated here. there's got to be cake there. Pray it's ice cream cake

McKenzie...pie & ice cream talk and cat talk will trump serious religious discussion anytime.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 21, 2009 3:07 PM
mopar is correct. I don't know what your book is, but I have several friends in publishing, and they all say you don't get anywhere without an agent. Except, perhaps, relegated to a dusty slush pile.

What Mopar said. I'll check with some people to see if I can't come up with an agent or two you can contact.

My other hunk-meets-culture moment was in Edinburgh. there was some kind of military parade thing they always do at the medieval castle there and there were the cutest, no, the hottest, young military guys in kilts. I found myself waiting and watching for the wind to sort of, you know toss the fabric, and it suddenly hit me: that's why men love women in skirts!
I took pictures, I think I will have to find them tonight.

When we were in Madrid, we went to a bull fight. My goodness, how they love it. Everyone around us was so into it and cheering, I sat there horrified with tears streaming down my cheeks. I couldn't look most of the time, particularly at the end of each bout. It is disgusting that it's consider that a sport.

THL, since, like more4less, I've exited the competition, it doesn't matter to me. What it does cut down on is the number of eligible men for women in the city. Is it just me, or does it seem there are many more eligible straight women in NYC than eligible straight men? I have a few single female friends who ask me if I know anyone I can fix them up with and I never have a guy for them.

Hi folks;
I am home today, preparing my house for some work later this week: resanding and refinishing my bedroom floors. We have to move everything out of 3 bedrooms, and I am exhausted. I'm now in Root Hill Cafe on 4th Ave, taking a break and checking my e-mails (since I had to disconnect my home computer). When I walked into Root Hill a few minutes ago, something dawned on me: does anyone in Park Slope work??????? The place is packed. Who are these people?
THL: I can't believe you like Coney Island. The place has been a dump for more than 40 years. Sure, I have alot of memories of the place, but that only makes it harder for me to see what the place has become. Even Gargiulio's stinks now.
Here is another piece of trivia: yours truly happened to be at Steeplechase on the last day it was open, with my folks. I can remember it like it was yesterday.

Did you suffer a serious head injury lately?
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 21, 2009 4:47 PM
"Am I the only male on this blog who likes females?"
No. I'm spoken for, but I do so much admire the ladies. Luckily my lovely bride is cool with my admiration as long as it remains....admiration.
"If you're married can you really be considered hetero anymore?"
You can if you're married to MY wife! She's a legitimate knockout.
"Originally Maclean of Mull. The Duart macleans are from that line as well. family is on Mull."
You're REALLY tempting me, Dave...one more reference and I'm going to let loose. You've been warned.

"11217 hasn't been in his usual threads as well"
Maybe he actually went on a walk through Crown Heights or Bed-Stuy, stopped a random person on the street and asked them why on earth they aren't living in Park Slope, and got popped in the face.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at April 21, 2009 4:49 PM

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 21, 2009 4:50 PM
Do you single hetero guys like lurkers?
Posted by: jessibaby at April 21, 2009 4:53 PM
I've known a few Jesse's in my time but never met a jessi.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 21, 2009 4:55 PM
THL;
I had thought we had buried the hatchet recently, and had even had some friendly exchanges. I have no interest in harboring any latent hostility or grudge. I have no idea why you suddenly turned hostile on me today. If it suits you, I'll avoid any exchanges with you. That's all.
Posted by: benson at April 21, 2009 4:55 PM
"ENY, unless you're native American you have to have relatives from somewhere. Come on, what kind of trash are you???"
I think mentioned before Dave, that my family (both sides) is all originally from the Caribbean - Barbados, Antigua and St. Kitts. So, feel free to make any "third world" references you feel are appropriate. Hell, even I make "wetback" jokes from time to time (none serious).
Posted by: East New York at April 21, 2009 4:58 PM
THL - I kinda think Benson was actually trying to be friendly with you-like sorta putting water under the bridge sorta thing
of course i wasnt on the CI thread so not sure if he made snide remarks to you over there, but i sensed he was trying to give you an olive branch....
just a thought
Posted by: gemini10 at April 21, 2009 5:00 PM
I always associated "wetbacks" with Central or South Americans, not Caribbeans. I think "wetbacks" is a lot more derogatory than "Eurotrash." However, as you may have figured out from some of my posts I kind of like that "wetback" look as I know it to be!!!!!
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 21, 2009 5:01 PM
just to clarify, I've never been to CI and will probably never go.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 21, 2009 5:03 PM
"I kind of like that "wetback" look as I know it to be!!!!!"
So I've noticed! I don't mean anything personal with the "Eurotrash" stuff, Dave. Just joking around.
Posted by: East New York at April 21, 2009 5:03 PM
What's the CI thread? Benson and THL, play nice.
Can we talk about how many upscale wine stores Brooklyn needs? More than the number of frozen yogurt shops or less?

Posted by: Heather at April 21, 2009 5:07 PM
Yes, ENY, I realized that. I don't take much offense at being called anything myself. I do however believe that sterotypes have a basis in the real world which is why to a certain extent I hate everyone equally but just a little bit. :)

Just one more - preferrably on my way home from the train that has decent wines at good prices. Or maybe I'll just start drinking Yellow Tail or Organic Pinot Noir (bleh)
Posted by: dirty_hipster at April 21, 2009 5:16 PM
Olivino is around the corner from mine, dave. And they're nice. So nice I have a hard time hating them for not being a coffee bar... but, why does gentrified Brooklyn need a wine store on every block?
I buy the wine in a box from Fresh Direct. Three Bandits or something. It's not bad.

jessibaby, long time lurkers, first time posters are fascinating. You seem to know a lot about Rob. How much do you know about the Usual Suspects? Wait, I don't think I want to know that answer. More importantly, what made you decide to finally post (and do it so naturally and comfortably)? I'm asking because it kind of relates to the infamous commenting thread from a few weeks ago whereby Mr. B was wondering how to get more lurkers to sign in.

Dr. Loosen's Dr. L Reisling is a good everyday one. It's sweet but not syrupy.

I like Reislings with spicy foods. It's also good for when you have people over that aren't big fans of wine in general. They're not as imposing.

Snark, I must admit I was wondering if anything happened between the two of you as you took more jabs at him today than usual. In fact, I don't remember you ever really snarking on him. However, the good news (other than the fact the jabs thoroughly entertained me) is that Rob can take it more than anyone else here, so don't worry about it. I've never seen him take anything too personally or hold a grudge. That's why some of us consider him a woe beggoten lovable little brother figure.
Thanks for the insight, jessibaby. Now let the beatdown begin! :-)

Already have my money down on a Belgian beer and cheese tasting at Sycamore in Ditmas Park at 8 - JB?
June 11th, Biff? I guess I won't be chaperoning the prom that night!
Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at April 21, 2009 6:29 PM
Duh we forgot to ask the most important question.
Jessi, do you have a cat?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 21, 2009 6:33 PM
I'd post a pic, but how do I do it anonymously?
Posted by: jessibaby at April 21, 2009 6:34 PM
I don't have a cat, but I love them....I like toygers and also himalayans.
Posted by: jessibaby at April 21, 2009 6:35 PM
"maybe we need a chaperone..."
JB, I think someone's more in need of a wingman at this point. A chaperone's job is to make sure everything stays under control. Unfortunately, at this point, it doesn't seem like anything's getting out of control any time soon.

Sixyears, should we wait until June 10th? Or should I just meet you at Sycamore?!?!?!

"Already have my money down on a Belgian beer and cheese tasting at Sycamore in Ditmas Park at 8 - JB?"
sixyears, you gotta go to the girl. The girl doesn't go to you; at least not for the first date. If you can't make it tonight, offer to take her out around her neighbourhood tomorrow.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 21, 2009 6:38 PM
"I don't have a cat, but I love them"
You have been approved...come back tomorrow.
btw - I was kidding about the pic.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 21, 2009 6:38 PM
"Sixyears, should we wait until June 10th? Or should I just meet you at Sycamore?!?!?!"
I stand corrected!!!
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 21, 2009 6:39 PM
Offer expires in three, two, one....
Posted by: jessibaby at April 21, 2009 6:39 PM
And it's June 11, JB.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 21, 2009 6:39 PM
Waiting until June 11th? Not at option!
JB, you can email me - mtm11218 at yahoo dot com

"btw - I was kidding about the pic"
yeah, I wasn't sure, but since you were trying to set me up...plus, it was really fun to look at pics from the party at Floyd. I liked how DIBS called himself an old, white, asshat..
Ok. I'm going home now. Have a good night...

"Sixyears, should we wait until June 10th? Or should I just meet you at Sycamore?!?!?!"
psst Biff, don't talk too loud they might hear us, but what are you doing tonight? Do you want to go to Sycamore and spy...I mean drink some beer and taste some cheese.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 21, 2009 6:42 PM
My breath is bated...

Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 21, 2009 6:44 PM
I'm back and all I can see here is talk about threesomes, mostly among what have been described as heterosexual women. My God.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 21, 2009 6:44 PM
sixyears, you have proven yourself very worthy tonight, grasshopper.
I am so dying to go spy on my protege!
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 21, 2009 6:44 PM
Sixyears, I'm not going to e-mail tonight, so if anyone else contacts you, they are a jessibaby imposter... Sycamore sounds good, though.
Posted by: jessibaby at April 21, 2009 6:44 PM
Did she email him after she said good night?
Did she end up meeting him at Sycamore?
Did she just go home and go to sleep?
Join us tomorrow for the exciting conclusion!
This will be better than the Real Housewives recap!

"I liked how DIBS called himself an old, white, asshat.."
oh shit, I hope that's not who shows up at Sycamore tonight.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 21, 2009 6:46 PM
Hey! We shall arrange this away from your prying eyes, BRG :)
Posted by: sixyearsandcounting at April 21, 2009 6:46 PM
Oh, so much for the suspense...

Bring on the imposters! I'll copy and paste any & all of them to the OT tomorrow.
See you at Sycamore, JB...

"Sixyears, I'm not going to e-mail tonight... Sycamore sounds good, though."
Jessi WAAAAAAIT...are you going tonight or aren't you?

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 21, 2009 6:53 PM
"I am so dying to go spy on my protege!"
Protege???
I didn't hear one corny joke from 6yrs and thank goodness...Jessi would have been out of the OT and posting in another thread.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 21, 2009 6:53 PM
1118 Cortelyou Road. I'm there too much for my own good.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 21, 2009 7:06 PM
6yrs, tomorrow please tell us what happened.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 21, 2009 7:08 PM
That's really too far away. Is anyone setting up a remote feed?
Posted by: Heather at April 21, 2009 7:46 PM
Who has the spycam? Where are the intrepid reporters?

"And in my head, Chicken and THL seem like nice, posh English people.
Posted by: jessibaby at April 21, 2009 6:13 PM"
more darjeeling JB? So funny how we come across differently on the internet - I'm pretty much the antithesis of posh.
6years is both cool and smart - and, importantly, has his own pad. If I were a young and single female I would totally want to have his babies (good enough, 6years?)
