Today's Feel Good Video of the Day (before everyone starts talking taxes) is brought to you by BRG. Don't ask how she found it; just be happy she did!
The lead singer is sporting the signature design piece from the Spring 2009 Reynolds Wrap collection.
The Four Seasons would be so proud.

hey BRG in AM new today they had their neighborhood feature and today it was about bay ridge. i always love looking at the prices to rent and buy.. they say the average for a studio is 1250. is that right? there has to be some a little cheaper than that, no? and i had no clue it used to be called yellow ridge before the yellow fever epidemic in the 1800s!
so im no longer all that upset about having my work hours reduced. in essense it's just an hour a day and even tho that adds up to a LOT since we get paid hourly, i've found it's quite nice to have extra time in the morning. i can have some coffee and watch the wb morning news, i take out the trash and recycling, straighten up the apartment, get my laundry together, it's great! i can't even be asked to do those things after work im so mentally drained. the only thing i seem to have any energy to do after work involves bean bag related activities and watching trashy reality tv!

I'm arguing with my Dad on the best way to measure square footage. Isn't there a tool sorta laser pointer ruler that can do it? I seem to remember seeing a contractor who had one when we were getting our basement worked on.
Posted by: Prodigal_Son at April 16, 2009 9:23 AM
What a coincidence! I happen to do my dance routines in a similar outfit I fashioned from pipe cleaners and dishtowels.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 16, 2009 9:24 AM
oh yeah and it's also great in the morning to have that extra time cuz i can take the dogs out for another walk (my roommate walks them around 530 in the morning) so walking them around 840 is great they love it cuz the dog walker doesnt get to our place until noon. i thought the commute on the R would be packed at around 845 or so but surprisingly it's not. i feel like no one in park slope has a 9-5 job!

why would you need a laser to measure how big something is? can you just use a tape measure?

rob-
4 floors, different layouts and room divisions, and also the blueprints to the building as it turns out, my Dad -lost- years ago.

Yo, Mr. B....when clicking on the ad to the right for the Park Place Condos in Brooklyn, the link actually takes you to a condo development in the Boston area. Link goes to http://parkplacecondominiums.net/ instead of parkplacebrooklyn.com Whoooops!

THL, for these difficult economic times, we should do a show on how Do-It-Yourself disco outfits fashioned from common kitchen items.
Don't you love how they flashed the picture of the Beatles, circa the Let it Be sessions, to add even more artistic credibility to the performance?
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 9:36 AM
Prodigal Son... just measure the perimeter of the room in centimeters, subtracting doorways, doubling the measurements for alcoves, multiply by the square root of 2, then divide it all by 27. 1000 cm² = 1.07639 ft²
((P – (D + A) + 2A) ∙ √2 ) ⁄ 27 = X
(X ⁄ 1000) ⁄ 1.07639 = X ft²

Math this early in the morning? Yeeesh. My little pea brain can't take it!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 16, 2009 9:42 AM
PS....for many decades. all we had waere tape measure. They still seem to work quite well provided you know how to use one.
If you're working off of blueprints, get one of those architects three-sided pyramidal rulers.
If you can't figure it out with a tape measure, a laser isn't going to kick start your cognitive facilities. :)
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 9:44 AM
Sorry I'm late. I was over in the Prudential D-E thread doing the math for the pee brained Team Bear members who can always paint a broad picture of doom and gloom but never seem to be able to discuss the actual numbers.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 9:45 AM
"I'm arguing with my Dad on the best way to measure square footage."
PS, take Corcoran's figure and divide by 1.5.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 9:47 AM
They do make laser array mapping devices... fancy archaeologists and historians with lots of grant money use them to create perfect virtual replicas of rooms and structures. They catalog the contents and inscriptions almost instantly (relatively speaking) Then they can create CGI virtual worlds.
This is probably a bit of overkill to determine how much wall-to-wall to order or if you should get 1 couch or 2.

Now I understand, benson.
WAKE UP OUT THERE ON THE WEST COAST! BING!!!

Kelly running down the middle of 5th Av really was spectacular! Joni saved the day there - Bethany has an amazing ability to deal with the crap thrown at her.
Posted by: cobblehiller at April 16, 2009 10:04 AM
Bay Ridge was called Yellow Hook not Yellow Ridge.
Yes, there are laser measuring devices. There are so many different types that contractors, surveyors use.
Many architects use:
http://www.leica-geosystems.com/cpd/en/lgs_5061.htm
They come in different sizes and offer different features. They're not cheap. We paid about $500 for ours (which I see is no longer available) a couple of years ago. I believe they now range in price from $300 - $800
You're best bet is to learn how to use a measuring tape. Unless you're measuring a huuuuge space, there really is no need for a laser. If I'm measuring a typical room in a house, I use the tape most of the time and use the laser to measure the large distances that a tape measure won't cover in one shot.

What is the premise of this show? How did it get past any kind of executive scrutiny?
Posted by: the chicken at April 16, 2009 10:10 AM
BRG, are you an architect?
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 16, 2009 10:11 AM

Would you like me to come measure something for you? I'll bring my tools.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 16, 2009 10:23 AM
I've got something to measure... but you'll need a pretty big tape measure!! (sorry, couldn't resist)
Posted by: tybur6 at April 16, 2009 10:26 AM
I like to measure in centimeters rather than inches. It makes everything seem so much bigger.

Sometimes things are too small to measure with a tape or a ruler. You just eyeball it at that point.
"Eeh,it's only a couple of inches, oh, well."

Some friends of mine once asked me if I could figure out how many miles of "pole" I've had over my lifetime.
Sorry, benson.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 10:38 AM
DIBS, did you keep a log?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 16, 2009 10:41 AM
DIBS, I wonder if you could figure out how many miles of coconuts you've had over your lifetime.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 10:42 AM
I did an Excel file with various assumptions on frequency (it went up dramatically during weekends in Bangkok), and size.
No snarky comments on size in Bangkok, folks. You'd be AMAZED.
OK...back to your real Housewives discussion lest I get yelled at by benson.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 10:45 AM
"DIBS, did you keep a log?"
It would be difficult to maintain, I would imagine. One would get cramps based on all the entries DIBS has made.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 10:46 AM
The coconut calculation would be more one of mass, not length, Biff... cubic inches which might turn out to be cubic yards after all the numbers were in and tallied.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 10:47 AM
How many pounds of cats have you cat owners owned over your lifetime????
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 10:51 AM
Or even better, how many pounds of cat poo have you cleaned out of litter boxes over your lifetime???
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 10:52 AM
With DIBS, I assumed that others keep up his log and made the entries in his behalf.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 16, 2009 10:52 AM
Very good, BRG, very good!!! I'm not sure some of the lesser minds here will actually get that one!!!!
Speaking of which, we haven't seen randolph in awhile.

Rob, you have a dogwalker? That's not a poor person thing, I am just saying. No judgement, at one point I had three dogs and they used to trash my apartment during the day... but damn, I'd get rid of that expense and at least drink a better class of beer. Also you are right, the time difference between 35 hour week and 40 is actually sort of huge. Sometime in the late nineties, everyone began working the 40 hours... I always hated it.
Posted by: Heather at April 16, 2009 10:56 AM
There are 10,560 "average" poles in a mile... and 7,040 very "healthy" poles. Taking something in the middle... one pole a day, a mile would take about 23 years.
Of course, one tends to travel the length of a pole several times per "sitting." So, that could change the statistics.
Posted by: tybur6 at April 16, 2009 10:56 AM

wow- we should all be such talented eurotrash :-)
Posted by: bxgrl at April 16, 2009 11:10 AM
Susan Boyle is amazing, I wish people would stop nattering about her eyebrows like they matter.
And Biff, no, people don't -- not really... but it used to be that way for us peons. The fact that it isn't even 40 hours a week anymore that's expected is one reason I don't see the point of working, myself. Money isn't worth the aggravation. (Of course, now that I am spoiled housewife it is easier to have this point of view.)
In my opinion, most jobs require stupid amounts of time committment -- and yet, productivity? Not so required. I blame the internets.

it's not my choice. my roommate thinks it's necessary so my dog wont get jealous of his dog who has to be walked during the day by a dog walker cuz she pees every 2 hours. i did tell him it was slightly cost prohibitive of me and he subsidizes 2 of the 5 walks a week for my dog. i think it winds up costing me about 36 dollars a week. my dog gets a nice long walk though and doesnt have to sit alone home all day staring out the window. if it means eating chili at wendy's for lunch so my dog can be happy, im all for it. it's not like i have kids you know?

Biff--as quasi-official Brownstoner party planner I wanted to say that I spoke with the owner of Outpost the other day and they are very happy to host a party. I have also been talking with them about the idea of a photo show there so it occurred to me (if I can be so presumptuous) that it could be cool to combine these two events this summer. A brownstoner summer party at Outpost with a wasder photo opening. Thoughts?
Posted by: wasder at April 16, 2009 11:11 AM
Had to come to the open thread to let you all know that I was at the Conde Nast party last night, and who was there but none other than the Real Housewives. Simon, wifey and all...!
Don't watch the show, but know you guys seem to love them...
Posted by: 11217 at April 16, 2009 11:12 AM
wasder posted this in another thread and I said we could discuss it here:
"Speaking of Outpost I spoke with one of the owners and they are very amenable to having the next Brownstoner gathering. Though rather than waiting til November it might be good to do it in the summer time so that we can take advantage of the sweet backyard/garden set up they have."
What do people think? I had thrown out a date of May 14 for the next event, but maybe that is too soon. Should we aim for June or later?
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 11:14 AM
Heather- I thought her face was quite beautiful- not to mention her voice is riveting. Did anyone also see the video of the Stavros Flatley Greek Irish Dancers?

wasder- DO IT!!! I love your work!!
Posted by: bxgrl at April 16, 2009 11:15 AM
wasder, that sounds fabulous. What date(s) were you considering? I know the concerns were the lack of hard liquor (I believe they just have wine and beer) and their 11pm closing. I think people might be fine with just wine and beer and perhaps we can request they stay open a bit later for us. Thoughts?
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 11:16 AM
After 11 we could always head to 7(Seven).
Posted by: DeLepp at April 16, 2009 11:18 AM
I support the Outpost suggestion
Posted by: more4less at April 16, 2009 11:19 AM
May 14 sounds great.
I'm fine with beer so that's not an issue.
I'm sure we can get them to stay open another hour.
Who was the last to leave last time & what time????
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 11:21 AM
Great idea wasder!! Loved your old/new shot the other day.
Can someone post a pic of a polecat? Seems strangely apt today.
P.S. On the assumption that the cat weight sub-thread is for real and not some double entendre I am missing, my three current critters weigh in at about 42 lbs combined (not evenly distributed, mind you). Probably about 64 pounds of cat lifetime.
Posted by: slopefarm at April 16, 2009 11:22 AM
I bet they would stay open later but I can easily go in there and make that specific request. when they have their Skittles dance parties (seriously!) I am pretty sure they stay open later. Don't know if anything can be done about the hard liquor aspect. In re dates, I am flexible. As long as I had a month or so notice to get the pictures together (would do a Brooklyn show as opposed to a rock music show to be event appropriate) I could pull it off.
Posted by: wasder at April 16, 2009 11:23 AM
She was so sincere it made her beautiful, I thought, bxgirl. And yes, her face is striking. They'll make her over, I'm sure. Hope they don't do too scary a job of that.
Awww, the father/son team are adorable. But no competition to my girl, Suze.
Okay, kid and I are off for the day... let me fulfill quota by just adding that yesterday she used the potty all day! Was impressive.
Posted by: Heather at April 16, 2009 11:24 AM
DeLepp, is 7 nearby? If so, how close?
wasder, would May 14 give you enough time to set up your show? If not, what date would you suggest?
"Who was the last to leave last time & what time????"
I was amongst the last to leave. I believe it was around 11:30/12.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 11:24 AM
I would vote for June over May because I am in midst of putting my big rock and roll show together and don't think I could do both at once. Plus in June it will be guaranteed to be warm enough to do some garden hanging in the back of Outpost.
Posted by: wasder at April 16, 2009 11:25 AM
Gotta go into town for a while so I will be off the grid til later in the day. Will check in and see what group thoughts were about the above party idea....see youse later.
Posted by: wasder at April 16, 2009 11:26 AM
wasder, how about Thursday, June 11 then? Would you mind approaching them and asking about that date for your show and our gathering? Also, can you ask if it's possible for them to stay open a bit later, i.e., until 12?

I left the last one about 5-10 mins after you and it seemed to be ready to wind down then. Think that was around 1115.
I'm a new Susan Boyle fan as well. Felt really happy watching that.

Snappy, ours are all in the 7-10 lb. range (everyone's tiny) except for the 17yr old big boy J-kun he's a lean 16lbs. He used to be more muscular but he's the one who was sick earlier this year. He's gained back the weight but at his age I don't think he's going to be the brickhouse he once was.
It's cute, he ALWAYS sits on the scale in the bathroom waiting while I shower so I know when every he fluctuates.

What is it with cats liking to watch people shower?! I have a clear shower curtain just so my little fuzzball doesn't scream bloody murder for not being able to see me for 40 minutes at a time. She curls up on the bath mat and watches intently. One of these days, she's gonna pipe up and say, 'you missed a spot!'
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 16, 2009 11:39 AM
Ah, I have a reprieve, waiting for friend to get here.
Mine are about 10 pounds each. 10 + 10 = 20. For some reason, my apartment cats never seem to reach the proportions of other people's apartment cats. Maybe it's the only feeding them dry food thing, I dunno. They also seem to live forever and become incontinent.
Posted by: Heather at April 16, 2009 11:42 AM
Heather, are your cats active? How old are they?
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 16, 2009 11:44 AM
Snappy, I used to live in an apartment with a giant sized walk in shower and my one cat Mati would actually come into the shower, sit in the corner and when I was done she'd be covered in the fine halo-like mist of water droplets that would float on her fur. Once I'd finished she'd go off and lick the all the water off herself. If I didn't let her in she'd sit outside and howl like she was being tortured.
It was the most bizarre thing ever.

Yeah think most of my colleagues ignored it. Enough explosions here (from da boss) that I am sure we would not be able to tell the difference if the building was being bombed!

Oh my! THL, the only time mine insists on getting in with me is when I come back after being gone for a few days. She misses me so much she's willing to put up with getting wet. She'll hop in and sit on my feet. I take that opportunity to give her a bath.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 16, 2009 11:51 AM
haha THL - that sounds alot like my cat. She loves water!! She also loves to rub her face against the corner of the dishwasher door when it's opened after its been running. Must be the warm moisture.
When she was a kitten she used to jump in the shower. For a good 3-4 years i had to take luke warm showers to make sure she wouldn't get scalded by the hot water.
Posted by: dirty_hipster at April 16, 2009 11:52 AM
I have 4 that aren't over 10lbs. One is only 7. It's just the one guy that's big. He's tall and long big not fat big.
I think it really just depends on their background. Some breeds are bigger than other. Some are huge.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 16, 2009 11:54 AM
I knew a girl whose cat would soak in the tub with her. Now that sounds as unappealing as it gets. I can't imagine a relaxing bubble bath with cat fur floating by along with the bubbles!

awww I want a cat sooooo bad!
Posted by: gemini10 at April 16, 2009 11:55 AM
My kitty total weighs in at about 75 (8). Since they all asleep with me, it's like trying to move a cement boulder in the morning when I'm trying to throw back the covers to get out of bed. Then they all traipse into the bathroom to line up for the litter boxes- which is a hoot to watch. Finally, Little Stevie Wonder has to go through all of the boxes making sure everything is properly coverd up. She is so funny- she'll hear one of the other cats in the litterbox and go running in to scratch up after him, and then do the other boxes for good measure.
Feeding time, however is utter chaos.

whereas a cat that has a fuller body, neck and head tend to be sweet little lapcats that aren't really very nutso
ok discuss......

Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 16, 2009 11:58 AM
gemini- the Great EVLL has 2 little, totally adorable kittens available and a few others still to small to be weaned yet. They're all rescues and can't be kept so I don't know what we''ll wind up doing with them if they can't be adopted.
Posted by: bxgrl at April 16, 2009 11:58 AM
Gemini, I'll have to spend some time thinking about that one!

Catatouille, bxgrl??
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 11:59 AM
Oh guys, that's so cute! Aww, I miss her.
I wish my current ones were more keen on it. The act as though it's acid burning their flesh if they so much as get a drop on them.
When we brought in the one stray that had ringworm and required bathing 3 times a week for 3 MONTHS it was pure hell.
I really didn't think we'd make it.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 16, 2009 12:00 PM
gemini- I'm afraid mone blow your theory out of the water :-) They're all hyperspazzy but sweet little lapcats. Sometimes they are so affectionate I have to use the water spray to get them to leave me alone for 5 minutes.
Posted by: bxgrl at April 16, 2009 12:00 PM
oui, dave :-)
Posted by: bxgrl at April 16, 2009 12:01 PM
bxgrl, you have 8 cats?? You are like the Octomom in the feline world.
BRG, do you think benson survived the tremors last night? He hasn't posted since he told us about the earthquakes last night.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 12:02 PM
One of my cats, Sard- Lord of Doom- is totally blind. If he can't sense anyone nearby he'll sit in the middle of the room and howl. Then I have to get up and go get him and put him near the others.
Posted by: bxgrl at April 16, 2009 12:03 PM
I feel bad for doing it, but sometimes I have to squirt my cat to get her to leave me alone too. I have toy water guns strategically placed around the house for unforseen circumstances and bad behavior!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 16, 2009 12:03 PM
Why does everybody have cats? Ugggh.
Posted by: tybur6 at April 16, 2009 12:05 PM
Snappy, first Cookie sounds just like Pia. She LOATHES the other cats. She will not eat until they all leave. She'll sit in the door eyes squinted, glaring praying they'll choke on the food and die. Cookie also plays the roll of Little Stevie Wonder. She does it begrudgingly. Because after all she's a goddess and they're disgusting mongrels who fall short of her standards for litter maintenance. Her face reads of utter disgust when she does the job.
Gemini- I find that to be true.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 16, 2009 12:07 PM
I know Bxgrl - but remember I have to try to sell my house first - I don;t want to shock the kitties!
also hubby wants one too but he keeps saying he's allergic! - ugh
that's just been my experience with cats I have had - all our cats were these full bodied, round head cats that were little lumps of cuteness then my mom goes and adopts this stripey thin little cat with a triangle cat and the cat is BONKERS!
hahahaha
Posted by: gemini10 at April 16, 2009 12:07 PM
tybur6...so we don't have to take responsibility of being home when its inconvenient to walk the dog. I'd love another Akita but I'm too selfish to adjust my occasional evening social schedule.
I don't have cats here, just in Philly. I'm usually not home from Friday morning until Monday evening so that would be prohibitive.

Benson posted last night that he was ok.
So Biff, do you have a cat?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 16, 2009 12:12 PM
biff- believe me it was not my intention to have 8. I tried to find homes for the whole litter but no one wanted blind or partially blind kittens and the only recommendations I got was to put them to sleep. I couldn't do it. ( the word "sucker" is emblazoned on my forehead).
It's a lot of extra work but they all get along and they all are really good with using the boxes. My only regret is that you can't give each of them all the attention each of them wants.
Posted by: bxgrl at April 16, 2009 12:13 PM
Well its the issue of keeping 4 days of food out and then coming back to 4 days of litter!!!
If i get someone to come in there'll be those occasional times when they screw up and that'll be even worse. And they'd have to be declawed with this furniture. I won't declaw them, I'd have to find them like that bbut that also defeats the purpose of cartching the occasional mouse.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 12:14 PM
If we got them together they could have a stare down contest!
You die

Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 16, 2009 12:15 PM
cats let off some sort of pheramone/hormone which seems to affect human femalesn (sort of like a Collier's condition). It causes them to continue the accumulation of felines until one of two things happen;
The total body mass of cats approaches that of a small european car
or
The human passes away unexpectedly, after which the cats proceed to consume said person.
Posted by: Legion at April 16, 2009 12:17 PM
Make yourself a lox & bagel and turn away and I think the task will have been completed.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 12:17 PM
I have a webcam, THL- I still have to figure out how to use the damn thing! I love funny cat names- there is Moose, widget, Little Stevie Wonder, Bugboy. The others are not odd- Bella is a longhaired allycat- the most gorgeous torties. Looks like a lion with a black mane. Pumpkin is the obvious. Toffee was named by my neighbor- he's a fabulous looking tabby who agressively adopted me on the street.
Bugboy got his name because of the horrible eye infection that swelled his eyeballs out so they looked like marbles stuck to his head or like fly eyes. They're back to normal size now but clouded over.

Oh yes- my greatest fear. I'll croak and become a cat snack.
I always wanted to have a farm and animal sanctuary someday. I think women's maternal instinct kicks in when they see kittens and puppies. Men tend to go more for the grab my spear and hunt for food! thing when they see something with 4 legs and allover body hair :-)

We had that too snappy. They tended to play with it though and cause flooding.
Listen, my husband is just as complicit in the cat thing. He brought two into the relationship and I had NONE at the time.
I wanted to adopt the ONE stray kitten from the backyard.
Turns out there were two others so we did the spray/neuter thing and was going to put them back out if we couldn't find a home for them. How do you put an animal outside in the snow and subzero weather when they've had surgery and now have a bald belly? You can't! After you have them indoors that long and no takers on the adopting I had to break down and get them full vet care and make them mine.
Now, you couldn't pry them away. Each one is special.

I had some leftover casserole from last night. It sounds white trash but it's SO good.
Veggie and Rice Casserole
1 cup rice
1 (small) can stock (whatever kind you like)
1 bag frozen cauliflower
1 bag frozen broccoli (*you can use whatever veggies you like or have from leftovers. Spinach is a favorite in my house*)
1 onion
2-3 cloves garlic
1 can mushroom soup *and* one cans worth of milk
Croutons (store bought or homemade)
CHEESE- whatever you have in the fridge. I usually use a block of cheddar and about a half cup to a cup of parmesean/romano. I've also used leftover mozzerella, american cheese, Ricotta- whatever you got.
Cook rice in the stock. The rice will still be firm and not cooked all the way.
While you're cooking the rice cook the veggies (I nuke em) Mince the onion and sautee the onion in olive oil in a LARGE fry pan.
Add the garlic
Add the cooked veggies.
Once they're lightly sauteed throw in the can of mushroom soup and a cans worth of milk.
Add the cheese.
Season to taste- I do parsley, pepper, cumin, garlic powder
Once the cheese has melted stir in the rice.
Dump the whole thing into a LARGE prepared casserole dish.
Top it with coutons. If they're the real big kind I crummble them in my hands a bit as I sprinkle them on. I've even used Ritz crackers when I didn't have anything else.
Bake 350 for 30 minutes.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 16, 2009 1:10 PM
Hmmm, ice cream. Now I want some, too. What kind...maybe Ben & Jerry's Phish Food?
Posted by: cobblehiller at April 16, 2009 1:11 PM
Those kitty fountains really work great - I read somewhere that cats prefer drinking running water. My cat would never drink from a bowl - I would have to turn the sink on for her and she would drink straight from the faucet. The fountain has cured that (although it does make a funny sound)

My goddaughter is half Jamaican half Puerto Rican. Yes my last line was an intentional set up and look who took the bait...the purest one of them all.

Sorry, it was a cheap shot, and I took it.
Moi? Pure? ha ha ha. No, I just play one on Brownstoner.

Football as we know it on American television will never be the same. John Madden has retired.

I hope someone posts that they put cold cream on their face each night...

Football was never the same after Howard Cosell died.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 4:17 PM
Remember the Monday Night Football game where Cosell announced John Lennon was shot and killed. I still get the shivers thinking about it.

Basketball was never the same after Marv Alpert was caught wearing women's underwear.

I haven't been the same since I met all of you Asshats.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 4:22 PM
I suggested Pet Shop Poofs.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 4:23 PM
DIBS, to borrow from Billy Joel, you were always an asshat to me.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 4:26 PM
Yes, and I also got a nice white dress and a party on my confirmation.

I see, it's the 'Frick and Frack' comedy hour here at Brownstoners...

So are all the Jews here gonna go wild after sundown today???
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 4:34 PM
Speaking of 11217, I'm out there exchanging harsh words with him and here you all are having fun...geez.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 16, 2009 4:36 PM
hmmm maybe i can get some input. i want to plan myself a nice little day trip this saturday to somewhere i havent really seen before. preferably in brooklyn since there's so many random places to see that i havent. ive been to all of manhattan tho so no suggestions for there. preferably somewhere with water, it's going to be a gorgeous day, where i can relax with a book and drink a 40 ounce in a paper bag, so preferably not an area with any cops or kids around. ? don't tell me to go to prospect park though. i want something a little less crowded and grittier but not in the middle of the ghetto.

"So are all the Jews here gonna go wild after sundown today???"
Only the observant ones. The pagans like myself have been going wild the entire time.
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 4:42 PM
Its not something you can spot by looking up.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 16, 2009 4:43 PM
Ah....I love my peeps. We'll be foot stompin' and shimmy-shaking over opening a new fresh loaf of - HOORAY!!!- leavened bread. And sucking down corn syrup (although for the life of me I had no idea that corn was not kosher for Passover until my sister told me this at lunch yesterday. Does corn have cloven hooves?). After 8 days of matzoh I would be ready for a ham sandwich, although copmplete honesty forces me to say that I did not observe the holiday as fully as I should. Getting through the seder was difficult enough without falling to my knees, begging for a real dinner roll.

Rob,
Docks behind IKEA might work. IKEA cleaned them up and put quite a few benches and chair out there. I think there are free IKEA buses that go there from park slope.
Posted by: Kensingtonian at April 16, 2009 4:46 PM
rob...click on the GMAP link for this thread and manoeuver it around..its just a block or two to the west and goes south
I hear its a lot like Park Slope but the people are nicer!!! :)

Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
With my 40 in my brown bag, I'm done
And then I pop one open again, yeah
I'm sittin' on the dock 'back of Ikea
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock 'back of Ikea
Wastin' time
I left my home in Georgia
Headed for Park Slope
'Cause I've had nothing to live for
And look like nothin's gonna come my way
So I'm just gonna sit on the dock 'back of Ikea
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock back of Ikea
Wastin' time
Look like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes
Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home
Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock 'back of Ikea
Watching the tide roll away
Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock 'back of Ikea
Wastin' time
(whistle)

The Seafood part, not so much.

I'll be seeing the Chinese bf tonight, the one you met at the second outing. I'll point out to him the blatant racism that appears on brownstoner day-in-and-day-out. :)

Posted by: Biff Champion at April 16, 2009 5:12 PM
more4less, I thought of you when I was typing my posts to him. We had words in two different threads. I just get so sick of the Park Slope Cheerleading. We get it already.
Okay enough about it.

bxgrl, I don't know who he is, have no issues with him or anyone here but a good heated exchange is always enjoyable reading. Just as long as the heated exchange is via keyboard / on-line.
imagine, we all agree with each other? "amen, ditto, right on, yes,...." that would be all that I see here - ie might as well be reading on ESPN.com why my sports teams are terrible

I agree Biff, they really should have just shown her singing.
But I think it is as the judge said, before she sang they were all laughing at her.
She sure showed them! I LOVE IT!

Rob, you could prob get away with a flask in Fort Greene Park. When I was young and drank 40's, (do they still make Midnight Dragon?) we'd drink them walking from the East Village to the West. Then we'd sit on a stoop and mock the natives. That was pre-Guiliani though. Perhaps not such a good idea now.
