I have another job interview today :) Hooray for me! Now, I just have to deal with the ever-present nausea and try not to get sick in the middle of the interview. Anyone got any tried and true home remedies they would recommend for me? Salt isn't working anymore.

omg im going to HELL! did anyone get punked on april fools yesterday? my friend kristy got me last night by sending me a text saying, it's terrible what you said about me and what you did that last time you were drunk.. i was like ugh what did i do!?!?! then she was like april fools!!! so i decided to april fools my 1/2 sister who i just recently me. i sent her a text. "i have something you might not want to hear. im not really your brother... when your friend contacted me i said i was because i thought it would be funny to have a teenage sister. april fools" okay so like 2 hours pass and normally she texts RIGHT back!!! then she texts me and said she was bugging out. even tho i wrote april fools in the text she just didnt get it and i dont even think she even knows what april fools is.! she thought it was funny though, but i kinda sorta felt like an a-hole hahahah.
so question for some of you... i was thinking about getting a second job, a night or weekend job. technically i had a second job for years working at a gallery but as of last year i never got a call back from them to come in, so i guess i was fired. i dont know. it's weird i never even picked up my last check. anyway, do you think it's greedy in this economy to try and get a second job?

I can see everyone collectively shaking their heads right now!!! :)
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 2, 2009 9:23 AM
congrats Insert and good luck
Ok - anyone ride the newer trains that are now on the F line? I did for the first time this morning and I get on pretty early, before the massive crowds and normally I can find a seat when I get on at 7th avenue or at least have a nice place to stand near no one. Not with the new train! - oh no, -they are so much smaller than the old train with the orange seats, so now you get less seating and a lot less standing room. We were crammed into that train when normally there would be plenty of room -I can't even imagine how crowded those trains will get when it's actually crowded
Posted by: gemini10 at April 2, 2009 9:24 AM
Rob, in the economy you do what you must. It's not greedy.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 9:24 AM
Rob - good luck on the 2nd job search
Both my husband and I tried looking to pick up extra dough doing anything from early morning paper routes to nightly gigs at Lowes etc - we couldn't find anything....
We aren't willing obviously to work 10 hour work days and then of course have a real second job at a bar or store on the weeknights and weekends, so you might have more luck with that

Another reason not to live in Park Slope...the F train!!!
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 2, 2009 9:27 AM
What do you guys think of the newly converted condos at 658 Park Place (btwn Franklin/Bedford)? I thought they were pretty nice inside. Border area, but improving and close to the 2,3,4,5, and a nice block itself. price seems reasonable too at ~$400psf, but I'd look for 10% off.
Posted by: uncledunkel at April 2, 2009 9:29 AM
oh Dibs - it's HORRIBLE - I seriously cannot beleive how bad that train line is
Posted by: gemini10 at April 2, 2009 9:30 AM
yeah that's what i was thinking too snappy (and congrats and good luck on your next interview!!!). ive been thinking long and hard about things and i've come to the conclusion that i would rather try and make more money so i can better afford my current living situation than have to downgrade to a living situation that might just be too stressful for me and not good in the long run. so i think if i can find a way to make some extra cash on the side it would be a good thing versus having to move somewhere else. i know people are supposed to live within their means, and for the most part i do because i do not even have credit cards so i really only spend what i make, but spending every cent of what i make when i make it, eh, kinda sucks you know? plus my student loan forebearance is up this month and it's most likely not going to be renewed so i have to figure out a way just to make an extra 300 a month to cover that crap! boooo. honestly if the gov't was smart, they would just wipe-out all the money people owe them for student loans and start out fresh.
that would help out the economy 10x more than helping auto makers and banks. but who the hell is going to listen to someone like me? now with student loans they are trying to make it where you pay in installments BEFORE you graduate, but you wind up in the end spending less because of less interest and stuff. kind of a good idea i guess. i would have easily paid 50 bux a month when i was in college for my loans than having to do it now!

I sense the employment market is getting better, along with a lot of other things. My daughter, who's been unemployed since Dec, has had three interviews in the last two weeks, only two prior the whole time. No job yet but one needs interviews to get a job.

re: the trains.
- new trains suck because (ive said this 100 x)
1.) they are designed for people to stand. i always find a seat even on a crowded train. im very crafty. you have to be if you dont like standing. new trains are horrible for seating especially the ones with just seats in one long line because of the leg spreaders (and you know who you are. youre balls dont need airing out that badly)
2.) terrible lighting for peoples' complexions. i like staring at people on the train but with horrible lighting everyone looks fugly. it ruins the mood.
3.) the robotic lady voices. GACK!
4.) i do not want a clock that tells me when the next train is coming. this tho i think lots of people disagree with. if it says 11 minutes for the train to arrive, that's an annoying 11 minutes. i'd rather it be random and get excited when i see / hear the train rounding the track. also for me, this makes it easier to find a seat. when it says train will be here in 1 minute everyone gets ready to push and shove inside. grrrr. this is why i dont take the L train. i'd rather take a cab to where im going anywhere on the L line (horrible i know!)

ALOL x 5000 did anyone see the insert of the brown harris stevens "important residential properties" in the new york times today? it includes a total year book style photo pages of all the brokers from their history. it's HYSTERICAL! someone needs to write funny stuff on it and scan it and put it on lind. Cheryl Bundy's pic is cracking me UP!

I never sit on a train unless its practically empty. Too claustrophobic and not enough air circulation. Besides, standing, you can more easily scope out "eye candy" which is the only positive aspect of being on a subway anyway.

Snappy, she's a technical writer, she was involved in commercial real estate appraisals at a Wall Street support firm. Her job was to enforce a 'house' style, make sure everything that went out was in good shape, and also she was in charge of presentations of various types. She was doing great barely a year out of college, she'd been there two years and was making nice money. Then the bottom fell out.
She has a great work ethic, inherited from her parents no doubt They did love her and gave her a great package, five months' severance. So that plus unemployment should keep her in good shape for a few more months. Else, there goes the guest bedroom. Sh*t!
Posted by: denton at April 2, 2009 9:47 AM
i dont know dave. maybe youre right. im a very wobbly person tho and standing on trains would cause me to step on too many feet. it's best i sit. i usually do my reading on the train tho and id rather sit and read too than stand.
biggest pet peeve? - turn you stupid ipods down on the train. when it sounds like a f'ing boombox level of sound you are seriously destroying your ear drums and no one wants to listen to your crap music anyway!

Ok I find most men with any sense of pride will not to squish into a seat between 2 women or 2 men - I hate when men sqoosh in - I find it strange
Rob - I hear you on the poor lighting - I was like OUCH!
also agreed on being crafty - its horrible to say ,but on the F train I tend to stand near to Asian folks who are sitting as I know most likely they will get off at East Bway....

Anyone noticed a huge influx of Brooklyn properties on streeteasy? It's up like %50 since yesterday.
After looking at what was actually added, I noticed that the other Brooklyn MLS database was merged into it.
For those who don't know, there's a separate huge MLS that specializes on Kensington and everything south of it (Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Sheepshead Bay, Midwood, etc).
Now finally all of Brooklyn properties are in one place.

No, my biggest pet peeve is when someone gets on with some McDonalds crap or something else and stands there eating it. Inevitably they eat like a slob, dropping most of it and look like they've been on a steady mcDonalds diet since birth.
OK, no more rants today. :)

Rob, am I remembering correctly that you are a smoker? I want to ask you a question...Have you ever bought the 'no name' brand cigarettes? Actually, they are called "USA" cigarettes. I started buying them about a month ago when prices on premium brands went up. They cost 7 bucks. I haven't smoked in a few days and I'm wondering if this sickness I feel is related to that. I've stopped smoking before for stretches of time, but never felt such intense cravings. I'm starting to wonder if these USA cheapy smokes are higher in the addictive stuff they put in cigarettes and is therefore giving me serious withdrawl sickness. Arg.

Ipods being loud has become my new pet peeve. I had the guts one morning, to tell a man who was sitting next to me to turn it down(politely) he geniunely looked surprised like wow - it's really that loud? I was like um dude YEAH it's LOUD! - he apologized and turned it down.
maybe folks don't realize how loud their ipods really are??

SNAPPY YES!!!! those cigarettes are terrible. back after college for a few months when i was unemployed i used to by USA's, Dorals, etc... the generic cigs. they are SO bad. they must be cut saw dust or something. whenever id be broke id buy those before i found a black market newport dealer. Snappy my guy sells cigs for 7 bux but you can also get newports on 125th street for 6 (it might be 7 now) and a number of bodegas up in harlem, you just have to say "under counter". if youve never bought from them before they will first pretend to not know what you mean, just repeat it and you can get cheaper cigarettes, from literally just under the counter. the only thing tho is that it's always mostly newports, which is perfect for me since that's my brand.
honestly tho, im thinking about quitting. even at a discounted 7 bux a pack, the habit is killing me physically and financially. when people will ask me something like let's go to the movies and i have to decline cuz i need to buy cigarettes, you just KNOW your priorities are wrong.
the only problem is that i enjoy smoking SO much. :-/ given that my grandfather and mother both died of lung cancer and my grandmother has emphysema (sp?) that would be enough to quit.

snappy i just re-read your post. if you quit for a few days it's your body literally expelling itself of the tar and toxins. everyone gets sick when they quit. it's actually a good thing. ever notice (if you have smokers cough) it goes away when you smoke and actually soothes your throat? quit snappy!!!! let's pick a date and quit together!!!

I can't believe how much stuff I missed last week! I spent 4 hours catching up on the threads- I thought the comments thread was verrrrry interesting and very happy for the Great EVLL who couldn't rent my apartment out from under me because the cats signed a 5 year lease :-). I am thrilled she is writing a column for Jon! I am going to set up a web site for her- I've screamed at her for years to do something with this. All I can say to MM is- about damn time!

Rob, I've never been 'quit-sick' like this before. I'm literally dizzy and nauseous to the nth degree. It's horrible. I don't know that I'm really ready to quit. That's pretty stupid of me because I have a strong family history of various types of cancers on both sides and my father smoked for YEARS and has somehow managed to beat bone, mouth, tounge, throat, and prostate cancer.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 10:07 AM
lol dave. do you ever feel bad tho when an obese woman (or man i guess tho i dont feel as bad for them for some reason) will get on the train and there will be a totally decent sized seat available but she can't sit there because she is too big? :( it's like, if it's next to you, do you get up and offer the two seats to her? when i used to take the 1 train from soho to harlem and reverse i used to always get up and offer my seat to someone who looked like they wanted it, but then i stopped. one woman punched me on the train one day because she said my umbrella kept poking her. im not talking like a nudge, it was an actual punch that would qualify as assault worthy! i didnt even know how to respond (i did call her something tho that i wouldnt repeat here) then when i got off i apologized for calling her that. most.akward.train.ride.EVER!

gemini - yeah they are new, but not new construction. there was a fire in the building and it was gut renovated. turned into 9 condos: 3 on the 1st floor, 2 on each of the 2nd, 3rd, and fourth floors. biggest downside for me is no central AC (well, that and the somewhat shady area)...

"ever notice (if you have smokers cough) it goes away when you smoke and actually soothes your throat?"
I have a hardcore smoker friend and whenever he coughs like a lung is going to flop out onto the table I say, "QUICK, have smoke and glue that stuff back down I think it's starting to loosen up!"
I know, I'm evil!
I used to smoke and quit quite some time ago. The trick for me was NOT doing anything that I associated with smoking. For instance drinking. I didn't drink for about 8 months because it inevitably made me have a cigarette. I also didn't go out for breaks at work. I tried to either bring lunch or order in. Thing was every time I walked out of the doorway my brain said "Light Up Cig NOW!".
Denton- I'll keep my fingers crossed that your "Inn" gets to keep it's vacancy sign lit.
Bxgrl- Welcome back!

snappy i hear ya. it sucks. im not ready to quit either. call 311 tho, i think they will still send you patches and gum for free. just put it aside in case one day you decide to quit. a few years ago i ordered the free patches from the nyc government program and wound up abusing them :-/ id smoke during the day and wear the patch to sleep. one of the major side effects of the patch, especially if you wear it at night, is that it gives you intense lucid vivid wacked out dreams. it's like youre completely tripping in your sleep and totally aware of it. i was doing that for weeks. i totally could have had a stroke or heart attack in my sleep. terrible

Hey wasder- thanks! I confess to being totally lazy in Florida. I did some work on it but now have to really get the nose to the grindstone again. We're having our annual Palm Sunday interfaith service at the Wall (on Keyspan Park, facig the parking lot)if you want to come and take pictures. A lot of the FDNY and NYPD families come- it's very moving and beautiful. It's open to the public. We also had our first candlelight service on the evening of Sept.10th. It wasn't sad at all- family members came up and spoke about the people they lost. Most of them told wonderfully funny stories so we wound up laughing and (a little) crying at the same time.
I've told the founder i want to do a book about the Wall (keep it in mind please!)- but it won't be about 9-11 per se. It'll be about how the Wall came to Coney Island, celebrating memories and the people on the wall. Some of their stories are awe inspiring. Of course I've already taped the great EVLL for writing help :-) Hey! She had a week off while I was in FLA. Now it's back to cracking the whip and making tenant demands :-)
Posted by: bxgrl at April 2, 2009 10:17 AM
Rob, I've called 311 several times and they keep sending me patches. I am severely allergic to the adhesive on those patches and can't wear them. They won't send me the gum :(
THL, I don't know how long I'll be staying strong. I have to get through this interview this afternoon and I'm so nauseous I can't stand it. I may have to smoke today and then try again tomorrow.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 10:18 AM
Thanks THL- I really missed my b'stoner daily fix! I felt like I wasn't doing my part to add to the usual suspects list :-(
Posted by: bxgrl at April 2, 2009 10:19 AM
snappy- have you tried drinking Coke or Pepsi and eating saltines (no salt?). The doctor had my sister do that when she was pregnant and totally nauseous. I've done it when i was sick and it does work.
You might be in withdrawal or you might be going through stress. That's what happened to me after my mom died. I was fine for 6 months then all of a sudden caved and was in bed for over 2 months. Everything hurt but the nausea was the worst- my sister told about this and it really helped.
Posted by: bxgrl at April 2, 2009 10:23 AM
Does it work with caffeine free diet coke? I've been off caffeine for about 12 years and can't stand soda with sugar in it.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 10:27 AM
I hate to be mean on this but you smokers ought to listen to yourselves here and get the hint. I understand that its very tough to quit but all this discussion about all of your medical problems should be a wake-up call.
Besides, with smoking banned everywhere it has got to be easier to quit nowadays since you dan't have all that smoke all around you.
Sorry if I've offended any of you. That said, the primary thing I noticed about Simon at the get together (after the very british chalk stripe gray suit) was that he smelled worse than an ashtray.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 2, 2009 10:29 AM
And I do understand that trying to quit while there are other stressful things going on in your life is probably not going to work.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 2, 2009 10:30 AM
Oh, Dave, I wish it were that simple!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 10:31 AM
Snappy, have you tried anything gingery? Tea, cookies, candies? Ginger is good for settling the stomach.
Posted by: mshook at April 2, 2009 10:32 AM
The pricing of cigarettes these days has definitely helped me cut down drastically how much I smoke and I suspect that my quit date is fast approaching, but right now, I'm so sick I don't know what to do.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 10:35 AM
Dave- Quitting smoking has been studied to be as difficult as quitting heroin and we all know that heroin addicts don't stop just cause someone tells them it's bad for them.
This is truly one of those easier said than done situations.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 2, 2009 10:35 AM
I should put up an ad on craigslist and see if someone will trade me their stop smoking gum for all the patches 311 has sent me. I've got tons of those damn things.

To all Smokers:
Please quit. Your health is important. And if you're not convinced of all the negative impact smoking has; then watch someone you love battle cancer for years and eventually die.
Stop puffing NOW!
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 2, 2009 10:39 AM
BRG, I know of the negative impact it has on my health. And, I've watched family members suffer and die from cancer. And, believe it or not, that is not always the clincher. If one isn't ready to quit, it's not going to happen no matter what goes on around them.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 10:42 AM
"I suspect that my quit date is fast approaching, but right now, I'm so sick I don't know what to do."
Some tough love from BRG:
Snappy, shape up girl!!! Enough with your whining about your sickness. Deal with it, it will pass in a week or two. Stick it out and bear it. I know it must be hard, but you can do it. Don't let it control you.
And if you smoke another cigarette, I will never ever ever.....
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 2, 2009 10:44 AM
snappy- I only drink diet stuff and it isn't the caffeine that does the trick, it seems to be the syrup so it should work. Originally Coke had cocaine or a coca derivative in it but it was also sold as a "medicinal" item. I also read that pharmacies even today sell the syrup to combat nausea.
Posted by: bxgrl at April 2, 2009 10:45 AM
LOL, BRG. I'm picturing you with a whip and wearing super high heels stepping on a pack of marlboro lights! LOL
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 10:45 AM
Snappy- having watched people die from it too, and watching people quit I know it is one of the hardest things in the world. I think it's very difficult for those of us who have never smoked or who may not have found it so addictive to understand the tenacious hold it gets on you. Both my dad and my ex quit cold turkey. My mom did after a week in the hospital for surgery. Other friends still smoke like stacks.
Posted by: bxgrl at April 2, 2009 10:48 AM
I usually take Emetrol for nausea, but that isn't cutting it either. I guess I'm going to be buying some caffeine free diet coke and crackers this afternoon.

For the smoker on a budget, can I recommend an electronic cigarette? They really do work and you can "smoke" indoors. The cigarette itself is not cheap but pays for itself after the equivalent of 5 packs.

when you smoke, food is less attractive and I think one's metabolism is stoked. When physicians quit smoking they stay thin by popping amphetamines (most doctors are druggies, I'm an RN). Regular folks are just supposed to suck it up and "exercize more" as if most Americans don't spend the entire day frantically going from one place to the next. There is no hope. If you smoke you will die of cancer, if you don't smoke, you will get fat and probably die of cancer anyway.

wasder, thanks for the nice words! I was plugging away hard at the Death Star. Still have lots to do but am checking in periodically. I did post three times in the OT yesterday, which I realize is well below my average.

you can read about it here
http://smokingeverywhere.com/
but lots of info on the web and plenty available on ebay.
Essentially, it is an atomiser of a nicotine-laced solution that you inhale as a vapour. There is no tar (the main issue with smoking) although the long-term effects of inhaling nicotine vapour have not been determined.
Also comes in lots of tasty flavours.
In theory, I think it is less bad for you than smoking real cigarettes - but I'm not a doctor.
The refill cartridges are very cheap relative to cigarettes (one refill is equivalent to about 10 cigs so about 1/5 to 1/10th the price) because there is no tobacco tax on them. Can get even cheaper if you buy your own solution.
Worth checking out if you are a smoker.

I find Bethany hilarious and admire her for the fact she seems to be one of the few Housewives (which is a minomer in her case since she's the only single one) in any of the series who has really created her own substantial career, although up to recently Alex had one in her own right.

"which is a minomer"
Meant to say "which is a misnomer". And where is Miss Nomer when you need her?
Posted by: Biff Champion at April 2, 2009 11:50 AM
Snappy, it was originally designed as a device to help people stop smoking - because people were getting their nicotine hits from patches but couldn't get past the oral fixation (resist the temptation DIBS!)
The cartridges come in different strengths and you are meant to drop gradually until you are inhaling zero nicotine vapour.
You should definitely check it out if you are looking to cut down on money spent on cigs or give up completely.

On the oral fixation of smoking issue...many years ago, Groucho Marx got thrown off of his TV show because he had a woman up onstage and she said she had 9 children. His response was "I like a good cigar but I take it out of my mouth every once in awhile."

So, all my home-renovation lovelies, I've got another question for you..maybe this is more apt for the forum, but here goes. As you know, I live in a one bedroom rental. The bedroom and living room are carpeted (argh!). Everything was brand new including the carpet when I moved in 10 years ago. I want the carpet gone. I don't care if it's replaced with peel and stick tiles that look like fake parquet flooring - just no more carpet. What *cheap* alternatives to carpet would you suggest I ask my landlord to put in? I haven't yet approached him about replacing the floors, but when I do, I want to have some cheap ideas to present to him. It should be noted that the floors are ridiculously uneven (and becoming more so in the last year or so - yikes!) so I'm sure that affects what can be laid down.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 12:22 PM
Snappy, my fudgepudge...do you know what's under the carpet?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 2, 2009 12:27 PM

Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 2, 2009 12:41 PM
Maybe its just the color or style of the carpet that you don't like. nothing else is cheaper. i've never priced the carpet tiles.
What is the subfloor??? If its nice oak he might invest in sanding and sealing it. That would be the best.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 2, 2009 12:42 PM
Snappy, make sure it's clean and stain free then ask him to take a look. Show him that after 10 years there's a wear and tear issue coming into play.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 2, 2009 12:44 PM
The sublfloor looks like plain on cheap plywood. It's not pretty and I don't think it would be no matter what was done to it. I don't like the carpet not just because of the color, but because after 10 years it's super worn, there are some stains I can't get out, and I am a smoking cat owner with asthma and allergies. Carpet, particularly in the spring and summer months, is very bad for me. I vacuum daily, but it makes no noticeable difference. I want a hard surface. Easier to take care of and easier on the nose.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 12:46 PM
Too late on the stain free, THL. I've tried carpet cleaners, resolve, everything.
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 12:47 PM
I hate carpet too (wall to wall anyway). I agree with dave. When the upstairs tenant above me moved out, we got wood parquet click tile and put them in. It wasn't that bad- stuff was on sale. In the long run great wood floors are nicer, last longer and are healthier. Have you ever seen what lies under a carpet when they take it up? No matter how clean you are, the skin-crawling stuff is always in there. Putting in a wood floor is definitely a smarter investment for the landlord.
Posted by: bxgrl at April 2, 2009 12:48 PM
Tear out the carpets, paint the floors and stencil them. lay down some area rugs or orientals.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 2, 2009 12:48 PM

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 2, 2009 12:57 PM
Snappy, I was going to suggest that. Just painting the subfloor. I know you like contempo design and you can paint it a shocking bright color. I've also seen some beautiful patterns stenciled into wood sub-floor, but that's very time consuming to do.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 2, 2009 12:58 PM
I've stenciled floors before. If you're thinking about that let me know.

What a coincidence! I've smoked them before, but they aren't my normal brand (camel lights what!)
A pack of Djarum Blacks is nice every once and again - but if i'm going to drop 13 bucks on cigarettes I like some plain old Nat Shermans better.
Supposedly cloves are worse for you then regular cigarettes. It has the same amount of the bad stuff as a full strength cigarette - and it's rolled tighter with the clove stuff - so it burns alot slower and you get more tar.

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Caught Twittering or on Facebook at work? It'll make you a better employee, according to an Australian study that shows surfing the Internet for fun during office hours increases productivity.
The University of Melbourne study showed that people who use the Internet for personal reasons at work are about 9 percent more productive that those who do not.
Study author Brent Coker, from the department of management and marketing, said "workplace Internet leisure browsing," or WILB, helped to sharpened workers' concentration.
"People need to zone out for a bit to get back their concentration," Coker said on the university's website (www.unimelb.edu.au/)
"Short and unobtrusive breaks, such as a quick surf of the Internet, enables the mind to rest itself, leading to a higher total net concentration for a days' work, and as a result, increased productivity," he said.
According to the study of 300 workers, 70 percent of people who use the Internet at work engage in WILB.
Among the most popular WILB activities are searching for information about products, reading online news sites, playing online games and watching videos on YouTube.

Only now saw the quitting-smoking bit, as I just logged in. It's always possible to quit - my grandma quit cold turkey at age 92 after smoking a pack a day for over 70 years. Then again, she's lived almost her entire life in Bismarck, ND and is as tough as nails. Still going strong at 94 and doing the yard work...
And this conversation reminds me of an incident with a generally very awkward coworker who said that to get his father to quit, "I gave my dad exploding loads". Apparently this was something back in the 70s and 80s. The rest of us instantly renamed our informal Guitar Hero band "Exploding Loads" - a clear improvement over the previous name!

Gemini, what did you do?
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 5:33 PM

Snark?? Do tell...what is it? I collect mid cent mod. dinnerware but I only have one piece of furniture. A Russell Wright dresser.

THL - It's a slatted George Nelson Bench. A classic, perhaps even cliched piece, but I like them. It's destined for the bf's foyer.

WOW, I am so jealous. Cliched my ass. They're so popular b/c they are so awesome!

Gemini, rule #1 on B'Stoner: Do not, I repeat, DO NOT get into arguments over the quality of a 'hood. It only ends in a vicious beatdown! I'm still smarting over the ass-whooping I got when I said I'd never want to live in Park Slope! Ouch!!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 5:43 PM
That's one helluva grin!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 5:44 PM
I look at that picture and immediately think did he just cut a fart?
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 2, 2009 5:47 PM
Sorry guys...let's eat.
Keep your hands off the olives...they're all miiiiiine. I spend about $20/week (maybe more)on olives.
I like supporting the local butcher, etc.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 2, 2009 5:47 PM
Snark, you have good taste in furniture.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 2, 2009 5:49 PM
You won't even let us have one olive??? As Stefanie Tanner from Full House would say, 'HOW RUDE!' :)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 5:53 PM
I don't like black olives as much, you can have some of those.
THL, can you break up that link.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 2, 2009 5:56 PM
I'll leave you 25 cents on the counter for the one olive I was going to pinch.
BRG- You sound just like my dad. He'd give you the world but he sees you eyeing his halva or olives and you see his eyes turn into lasers ready to singe off the fingers of those who dare to reach for them.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 2, 2009 5:57 PM
I don't like black olives :( I want a green one!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 5:57 PM
THL, I think she's basically telling us that if we reach for an olive, we're gonna pull back a nub!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 5:59 PM
BRG I put it on my page if you still have that link.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 2, 2009 6:02 PM
Snappy, what are you willing to give me for some of the green olives.
Yes, THL...that's me. My breakfast choice is an olive sandwich on pita bread. Sometimes I'll smear cream cheese or a soft cheese on the pita and then put olives...with a glass of chocolate milk, I'm in heaven.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 2, 2009 6:03 PM
S'o.k. I have my own. I just wanted to try the ones she had over there.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 2, 2009 6:03 PM
Olives with chocolate milk???? And you smooch people with that mouth??? YUCKY!
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at April 2, 2009 6:04 PM
I was so with you until yoiu said chocolate milk and then my tastbuds went all like huh? with olives? I like the sandwich and I like the chocolate milk (Silk light Soy Chocolate Milk is my fav) but I don't think I'd like them together.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 2, 2009 6:05 PM
THL, I see you like Jim Gaffigan.
Isn't he great? Funny as hell and a really really nice guy. One of the nicest in the biz.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 2, 2009 6:13 PM
Yes, olive sandwiches with choco milk!!!!!
Leave me alone and I'll brush my teeth after consuming it and before I smooch people with this mouth....so there.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at April 2, 2009 6:15 PM
BRG he kills me. He could say "hello" and just the way he'd say it I'd be giggling.
You know, I heard that from someone else as well. that's he's a regular folk kinda guy.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 2, 2009 6:18 PM
Alright, I gotta head out. You kids play nice.
Lata!
Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 2, 2009 6:19 PM
