Good News for Montague Trees

tree-guard-0409.jpgThe Montague Street BID announced yesterday that Montague Street will be getting 50 or so tree-pit guards over the next month. The funding will come from the City Council and the Parks Department will handle the installation. "The planting and protection of trees across our City is an important part of our environmental agenda and a valuable way to improve the quality of life in our communities," said Council Member David Yassky who arranged the funding. All the trees on Montague will also get a fresh batch of topsoil and organic mulch as part of the upgrade. Meanwhile, the parking meters on Montague are also getting a tune-up.

The parking meters should be replaced by muni meters as this will allow tighter parking on a street that needs it.

A few were installed on our block (Eastern Parkway/Crown Heights) recently but they stopped half way! Better than nothing at all. Was wondering who did it! I have ordered the seeds from 21stcenturyplowshare@gmail.com so will be doing my part in respect.

We've had these installed along Prospect Place in Crown Heights as well.

"John of the Doe Fund’s “Ready, Willing and Able” program is painting supports for the 69 parking meters along Montague Street, Brooklyn Heights’ main shopping strip. Later this spring, the pipes will be covered by knit covers, or “cozies,” being done for the Montague Street Business Improvement District."

For real?

Nomi, google "knitta please". I can't believe that for once brooklyn heights has something kinda cool happening. Even if it is done in knit. Somehow fitting for the neighborhood, right?
