Development Watch: 1124 Bedford Avenue

It's a shame that the developer of 1124 Bedford Avenue didn't rehabilitate the old Bedford-Stuyvesant Community Mental Health Center (photo here) at the corner of Bedford and Gates Avenues in Bed Stuy rather than construct this new six-story building. On the plus side, perhaps all 67 units of this place will have no choice but to become affordable housing. Actually, since it looks like CPC is providing financing for it, maybe all of it is already slated to be affordable.

Here's a nice example for the other thread on preservation being green. Even though the new building might have better insulation, etc you have to factor in the waste of a beautiful building that was demolished and trucked to a landfill.

I still miss the old building. That was a horrible loss...

They could have renovated the original building, providing afforable housing in a building that complements the rest of the neighborhood. I miss that building, too.
