Court Street Checkers In Progress
Brooklyn Heights is nudging closer to getting some suburban strip mall cred with each new tile that gets laid at the new Checkers restaurant currently under construction at 111 Court Street. McBrooklyn checked in yesterday and found a crew "hard at work." The space will ultimately have 25 to 30 seats. Are you going to give it a try when it opens? GMAP

Based on the comments previously (very strong opinions)... I may have to put aside my Checkers experience in Georgia and give this place a shot when it opens.

Hell to the yes. Big ol' sloppy burgers. Or Schloppers as I like to call them. And better fries than even Popeyes. As someone wrote last time around, I do hope they put up a couple of their plastic umbrella-bench set-ups in the little courtyard out back.

What a mess.

Sorry Brownstoner but in the suburbs Checkers generally arent in strip malls - they are generally independent locations almost 100% drive-thru

well since i live a block away i'll give it a try. can't be any worse than that Busy Chef debacle. if they end up hiring brain dead staff like in the other local fast food joints then it will be a one and done visit.

Yeah, I don't see why it's not at least worth a try. It's closer than Five Guys and (presumably) better than McDonalds.

I'm afraid that brain dead staff with no interest whatever in doing their jobs or dealing with their customers is pretty much the universal standard in Downtown Brooklyn.
It is almost like a government required mandate for all retail employees. A nice worker may be written up and brought up on charges.

I loooove Checkers, I've tried 2 out in Nassau County. The burgers taste really grilled, but not the Benzene Burgers of BK. Wouldn't expect the staff to be anything but surly and dim-witted, this being downtown Bklyn.

Speaking of burgers - Flipsters on 7th Ave (and 9th) is real good

Wow gourmet fastfood hamburgers in a place where rents are going through the roof! I give 6 months till they go out of business just like all the other hipsters that come to the neighborhood thinking they can conquer the world with their ideas and daddy's money.

hannible - what are you talking about???
Posted by: fsrg at April 15, 2009 3:11 PM
Hannible,
Checkers is a fast-food based in Tampa. I'll stack my hipster hatred up against anyone's but Checkers has no relation to hipsters.

Brooklyn is no place for a checkers. Wait and see then you will tell me who saw right and who saw wrong.

With Five Guys a three-minute walk away, the discerning junk food eater will head there. But with the Court Street theater rabble waiting in line for the next Saw movie or what have you while staring at Checkers, it should do just fine.
