Checking In On the Canvas Lofts

The fifteen condos at the Canvas Lofts at 118 Greenpoint Avenue are all full up, though the last three apartments were snapped up by renters. Still not a bad outcome for the conversion project which didn't launch sales until early last year. On another note, this conversion was done by Scarano and in this case we'd say he did a pretty nice job.

We just passed there Saturday en route to the Polish restaurant a few doors up on GP Ave (which is still cheap and tasty, btw)...boy, the rain-slicked Poultry Slurry on the sidewalk was fragrant and appealing, along with the open van being loaded with huge Kraft paper sacks of boids...we also wondered what was up with the mirrored windows on the ground floor. Seems an odd choice if they're looking for a retail tenant, unless you want to attract only very narcissistic customers. (Who like the smell of chicken guano.)

Brenda - the ground floor is residential, hence the "privacy" windows. Given that Gpt Ave is a commercial block, its too bad the owner decided to take the money and go residential at the ground floor.

The building itself is in the Gpt historic district. Apparently the cornice is not what LPC approved and is to be replaced. I wonder if LPC approved the window treatment at the base (they usually don't, but there are always exceptions).

As for the chickens, they were there first.

I live there, the stinking corpses of dead chickens make way better neighbors than our previous ones on the south side.
