Checkers Checking Into 111 Court Street?

checkers-0409.jpgNew(ish) local blog Flappy Days gets its first big scoop yesterday: The new tenant for the former Busy Chef space at 111 Court Street will be none other than Checkers, if some contractor types on-site are to be believed. Kinda random, but plausible given the type of food that currently finds success on Court Street. Can't imagine the BHA will be holding its annual luncheon there any time soon though! Now, I actually enjoy fast food... most people do if they were to admit it... but Checkers? I went to a Checkers in Georgia. Not a fan.

Though, I have to say, the sizes that soda came in were truly amazing!!

Tybur6,
You obviously have no idea. NONE! :)

Checkers rocks. Though I'm not sure how they're going to install a drive-thru in that space ... and they won't be able to get many of those plastic table/umbrella sets out on the sidewalk.

Between that and the Popeyes across the street, not only do I no longer need to move back to Louisiana, I'm never moving from Court Street.

Ragin Cajun,

As a Louisiana native (Lake Charles), I believe you are forgetting about one institution that will never be in Brooklyn...Whataburger! That alone will keep be going back!

OK, I'm going to be the one to ask - what's a Checkers?

Posted by: Montrose Morris at April 7, 2009 10:42 AM

Just for the record... i LOVE popeye's. Man - I'm glad I don't have quick access to one near my apartment!

Checkers indeed rocks. Mmm, curly fries.

There is (was?) a Checkers in Jackson Heights. Just a regular walk-in store.

RaginCajun - is sooo right - tybur6 you really are off here. Checkers is a GREAT fast-food burger (much better then anything you get at 5-Guys or a Johnny Rockets) - it would be odd however without a drive-thru.

One thing is for sure - the Recession/Depression is helping fast-food.

I'm not a big fast food girl but we have one here in J.C. and I gotta say it's pretty darn good. The burgers aint bad, they're more along the lines of Wendy's style than say McD's. The fries are really good.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at April 7, 2009 10:50 AM

They make a great burger.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at April 7, 2009 10:50 AM

I know for a fact that they are taking that space. They have been pursuing that part of Court Street for a couple of years now, and they finally found themselves a home.

I'm not sure if anyone explored Busy Chef, but they actually have a large courtyard in the back. Perhaps you'll see the picnic tables with Red and White umbrellas in the back of the building.

Posted by: Shoots and Leaves at April 7, 2009 10:54 AM

Yes, Shoots...I've been in there. It would make a great space back there.

Checkers must be making a major push into town, there's one opening on my corner in south bushwick.

Posted by: Jimmy Legs at April 7, 2009 11:03 AM

I think they are. They just opened a location on Flatbush Ave and Albemarle. I first heard of them last year while visiting my nephew in Co-op city. I must say I like their burgers and seasoned fries. This Court St location should do well for the moviegoers as well.

We had a Checkers on 34th Street, near 3rd Ave when I lived in Murray Hill. That was over 10 years ago. Don't know if they're still there...

we will not reach the mountain top until we get a
chick- fil-a

Posted by: neal parmigiano at April 7, 2009 2:08 PM

not bad as fast food goes - but their banana shake rocks!

Posted by: rickintheridge at April 7, 2009 5:38 PM

My debt card should be safe there.

Posted by: Blizzard5400 at April 7, 2009 6:53 PM

chick-fil-a!
chick-fil-a!
chick-fil-a!

Sadly, the politics of the company makes it a little hard to crack the NY market. There is actually a secret chick-fil-a associated with a college in Manhattan, but it's not open to the public.
