BREAKING: City Planning Approves Dock St. Minus 1 Floor

dock-street-dumbo-042209.jpgThis just in from a tipster: This morning the Department of City Planning approved Two Trees' proposal for a mixed-use Dock Street development but threw the opposition a small bone by trimming the height of the wing closest to the bridge by one floor. There will be lots more detail to report in the morning, we suspect. Stay tuned. Final hurdle: City Council. Complete Dock Street coverage here. Update: The Brooklyn Paper has more detail...The vote was 11-2. Quotes from all the major players here.

82.1% of Community Board 2 voted for the project. 84.6% of the City Planning Commission approved of it. I'm predicting 42-9 at the City Council.

I would imagine that in the current economic climate any politician would be hard pressed to kill a construction project that will create jobs and in so doing also stop the creation of a new public school. I mean, that is a heavy political lift.
The folks from DUMBO and the BHA are acting as if one of the towers of the Brooklyn Bridge will be demolished to make way for the new building, which in my opinion is kind of bland and background. What is it with these groups?

I am disappointed. It is a short-term gain for a long term loss.

Pardon my lack of modesty, but I'd say I pretty much nailed it.
