Bed Stuy Garage Goes Residential

An abandoned parking garage that sold for $3,475,000 in 2007 is nearing the end of a renovation project that will result in the creation of 46 rental apartments. A reader who can see the project from the rear of her house sent in the photos along with the observation that "it looks like a lot of track lighting, nice spiral staircases, etc." Not sure if that's good or bad but is sure is nice to see a beautiful old building like this getting recycled. Whats going on with the base of the building and the windows. I really wish someone would have hired a architect that knows what they are doing

"Beautiful" might be going a bit far ... I might've chosen "interesting."

46‽ I really don't see how that's possible.

it's nice to see an old building going rental for a change instead of straight to co-op condo.

pretty sure the building goes through to Bedford in an L-shape

Agreed, cwb.
This qualifies as beautiful?
Only if you fetishize every old building in Brooklyn.

This is the sort of development that screams "GOOD IDEA"!

Hmmmm.....the windows don't quite align, and to describe this building as "beautiful" is an insult to the word. Is this "Horror Show Friday" in disguise?

I used to go by this place fairly regularly: when it was pretty decrepit, and I'm pretty sure the bricked up windows predate the conversion. THe posters are correct, it COULD have been done with more style and panache, but it was done, and it is an interesting (sort of) reuse of a space.

far better than tearing the bldng down and building something as stupid looking as the rest of the new garbage

Totally agree twice... "beautiful" is stretching it, but re-purposing quality old buildings like this is great. Oh, wait, agree three times, it's is awesome that's it a rental property and not $375k co-ops.
