Streetlevel: Promenade Shifts Space in Dumbo

Promenade-Dumbo-0309.jpg
As previously reported on DumboNYC, Promenade Car Service, a particularly over-priced and unfriendly business in our experience, has moved from its Dumbo headquarters from 102 Front Street to 151 Front Street. But who really cares where a car service is located? After all, 99 out of 100 times you're calling in your ride. GMAP

Can we branch out beyond your restaurant section, Stoner?

Lets start with car service reviews, with this one being close to the bottom of the rank.

Promenade SUCKS.

Car service reviews I would be absolutely be into, but this "story" is a complete waste of space. Come on, Brownstoner!

Promenade drivers are always prompt, friendly and all of them practice perfect hygiene.

Why would you post about a business you consider "particularly over-priced and unfriendly?" Among other things, you're merely publicizing their services. Dumb.

I love Promenade. I was bummed when they left Montague St.

Never had a problem with them, always had a great experience.

(granted Prominent, which is not on Montague in the old Promenade space, is great too....)

Well, no one's sent us any Streetlevel tips this week, so we were jonesing for content!

Posted by: brownstoner at March 12, 2009 2:30 PM

In use Arecibo alot. I've only had big fights with one or two drivers.

Well Mr. B, gotta love your honesty.

We have been using Promanade since it started and never had a problem - on-time, clean cars and pleasant drivers. All of the services charge the same for airport runs.

Last time I tried these guys was in November. They wanted something like $25 to go to Park Slope. Madness.

Posted by: Polemicist at March 12, 2009 2:51 PM

I used them once to go to the fulton mall, but I ran out of the car at the red light and blended in with the foot traffic, so I have no complaints.

Posted by: Xander Crews at March 12, 2009 3:13 PM

I hate them. They're a million dollars.

Never had a problem with Promenade. Loathe the Cadman guys who take up all the parking places on Henry, though.

Posted by: BklynJace at March 12, 2009 3:37 PM

I use Promenade frequently. Always on time and cars are in good shape.

Last year we took Myrtle Car Service from Wallabout to Dumbo for $8. An hour later we did the same trip in reverse using Promenade. Price tag: $15. Total joke.

So what is the recommended car service to use if it is 3am, one is drunk and at a bar in Caroll Gardens, Fort Greene or Prospect Heights and needs to get back to North Brooklyn?

Posted by: dirty_hipster at March 12, 2009 5:20 PM

I've used promenade off and on for 15 years and they've always been just fine.

Posted by: Boerum Hill at March 12, 2009 5:24 PM

Boerum Hill - do you buy your underwear at Bergdorf Goodman?

Promenade is the ripoff of all ripoffs.

Posted by: BrooklynLove at March 12, 2009 8:39 PM

Love Family Car Service.

I use Promenade all the time, but only for airport runs, so I can't say anything about other trip fees. But in my case, they are completely reliable, usually show up in advance of my pick-up request, the cars are always clean (all Town Cars), the drivers usually ask me which route I prefer (which I would insist upon anyway), and I have zero complaints. I have them pick me up on return from the airport as well, and while that sometimes means a little longer wait than I'd like, I find them overall the best service I've used in 20+ years in Bklyn.

dirty_hipster - use New Bell. Cheap and reliable. I used to use Arecibo but they blacklisted me after I forgot to go outside for my cab a couple times when I was dru- tired.
