Rickshaw Dumplings Invade Dumbo

rickshaw-dumplings-front-street-0309.jpg
In a move that can't have the folks up the street at Rice too happy, the Manhattan-based Rickshaw Dumplings parked their truck at the corner of Front and Washington Streets yesterday in Dumbo (a fact that did not go unnoticed by DumboNYC). According to the woman behind the counter, they plan to make it a regular Monday tradition if sales go well.

have only eaten at Rice, but dont see the competitive connection between a pleasant sit-down restaurant focused on rice dishes, and a dumpling truck...besides 'asian'.

would think they serve 2 very different need-states.

i hate rice so much...eck sooo bland / poor service. i guess it's good for veggie-heads.

hey dumpling truck, come to cumberland st in front of the rice location in ft greene. i'll cradle your dumplings!

"i'll cradle your dumplings"

if they offered THAT service, they'd do reeaally well.

they are also in park slope in Saturdays between 2nd and 1st in front of the Hardware.

It doesn't really matter because there dumplings suck. Really bland I am surprised they have been successful at all!

Calvin Trillin says the juice they put inside dumplings is the best tasting thing on earth.

Rickshaw kills Rice--their food is so much better. Great pickup for dumbo.

We've had their dumplings 2x and they most assuredly did NOT suck. Not the equivalent of down-and-dirty real Chinatown stuff, but fresh flavors and nifty little dipping sauce. Only problem is you can't get a mixed order, just all-chick, all-veg or all-pork.

can anyone open one of these trucks? can you pull up anywhere? I've always wondered how that works and, if it's the wild west, why someone doesn't bury mister softee.

I just passed by a Rickshaw truck here in Midtown. It's like Brownstoner in Sensurround.

I went to Rickshaw on 52nd and Lex last week. I paid almost $10 for a handful of dumplings and a bit of edamame. What a rip-off, I was hungry 5 minutes later. Whether they suck or not is a matter of opinion, but most of us can agree that in the middle of a depression/recession/downturn, that $10 for 6 tiny dumplings and some beans is insane.

Were they magic beans?

For $3 bucks you can get 8 dumplings from any chinese restaurant that will most likely be better than Rickshaw dumplings!

Rickshaw Dumplings are overpriced and taste like crap - from both their truck and store .. be smart, save $ and go to Chinatown for tasty dumplings!
