Was there no F service out of Brooklyn this morning??? They turned the A train into an F at Jay St.!!!!!
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 9:21 AM
snow in march is just so wrong and depressing. actually snow after new years is just depressing. i own no boots and my feet and shoes and socks are soaked, and probably will be smelly as hell by noon :-/ GO AWAY SNOW!
*r*
Posted by: PitbullNYC at March 2, 2009 9:23 AM
I like snow... a lot. BUT, I see no reason to be sitting at work right now. And I work somewhere where "snow days" are a possibility. Bastards!
Posted by: tybur6 at March 2, 2009 9:31 AM
I cannot believe they actually close schools over a few inches of snow. New Yorkers are the biggest freakin' wimps!
Posted by: Biff Champion at March 2, 2009 9:31 AM
You're all a bunch of wimps. I was up at 6:00 and shoveled snow from in front of 9 houses. Canadians understand.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 9:34 AM
gorgeous morning, if you have boots :)
I recommend Vasque w/ Gore-Tex. my feet were toasty walking to the Q this morning.
If I were not sitting at my mother**cking desk I'd be with the wife-to-be in Prospect Park, hiking and listening to the muffled sounds of the city. Someone please tell me that they're going out to frolic in the snow, or take their kids sledding!
Posted by: Fjorder at March 2, 2009 9:34 AM
I don't know how many of you grew up in New York, but the biggest snow storms often come in March.
Posted by: sam at March 2, 2009 9:35 AM
Biff this is the first time in 5 years that NYC schools were closed b/c of snow...
Posted by: Fjorder at March 2, 2009 9:35 AM
rob....you need a pair of very WASPy Maine Hunting Boots from L.L. Bean.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 9:37 AM
Love me a good blizzard! Woo-hoo!!!!
Posted by: infinitejester at March 2, 2009 9:37 AM
You know, those boots are now called "Bean Boots" - LL. Bean long ago shed any association with hunting (I'm from Maine).
Posted by: infinitejester at March 2, 2009 9:40 AM
ugh! - I was praying my company would have closed!
but alas am here!!
yeah - I had some trouble on the F as well this morning - it crawled from one stop to the next!
do you think companies will send employees home early?
Posted by: gemini10 at March 2, 2009 9:42 AM
went to the open house at cleremont greene yesterday. pretty nice interiors, courtyard blah, prices insane...
Posted by: randolph at March 2, 2009 9:43 AM
Yes, my boots are probably 15-20 years old. There's a rubber embossed label on the back that calls them "Maine Hunting Shoe" as a registered TM.
rob...also get yourself a pair of insulated jeans. Ever seen them???? Best idea ever!!!! You can look fashionable and be warm at the same time and no one will know.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 9:44 AM
genmini....no one should be looking for their company to send them home early these days. :(
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 9:46 AM
Dave,
You wear padded jeans?
Posted by: sam at March 2, 2009 9:49 AM
not padded , sam LOL. You can accomplish that with regular jeans and a sock!!!!
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 9:50 AM
Rob! Even if you don't have boots you should have at least brought along a spare pair of shoes and socks to change into! They even sell waterproof boots at Payless. Just change them when you get to work and no one will be the wiser.
Posted by: TownhouseLady at March 2, 2009 9:58 AM
rob...get a pair of those high rubber boots in hot pink. A lot cheaper than L L Bean...you can probably find them at the Atlantic Mall.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 10:00 AM
Good morning everyone! I love this snow (maybe just because I don't have to be out in it, but chose to go out in it)! I got up early this morning to walk around and take some photos. Brooklyn is flat out gorgeous when it's covered in fresh snow. Rob, Timberlands and wool socks work wonders :)
Posted by: InsertSnappyNameHere at March 2, 2009 10:01 AM
Yeah, Snappy. I look like I belong more when I walk around in the ghetto with my Timberlands than when I'm wearing my LL Beans. I need to get me one of those big fur hats with the flaps.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 10:04 AM
Just got back in from shovelling snow, with the help of the sainted tenant, who, I'm sure will never let me forget it. Just wanted to say won't be around until evening all week. Got a project until Friday, but no internet access. Yea! Money! Should be there now, but got a snow delay. Enjoy, everyone.

Gemini, I remember shutting down the office early 2(?) years ago when there was that storm that gave us mostly hail and sleet leaving all of the sidewalks like sheets of ice. So I went around the office and stopped in to tell each broker so they could let their teams know and one of them had the audacity to say, "Everyone on my team lives in Manhattan so there's no way they're getting away with only working a half day!"
I had to gently remind her that *I* had closed the office and *I* would be letting *her* team know that since the severity of the weather now posed a safety issue I was encouraging them to leave.
It wasn't even a busy day since almost every other business on the East Coast was closed. She is just one of those miserable such and such who was angry that someone else had made the decision. She didn't speak to me for weeks, and what lovely weeks they were. Thank god I don't work there anymore!

"Biff that's a good way to lose an eye!"
THL....that's such an overused phrase. How many people actually ever lose an eye over anything??? Have any of you ever poked your eye out??? In my entire life, I've probably seen 4 people wearing an eye patch and I suspect 2 of them were gay and just used it as an affectation. I've never seen anyone with a glass eye.

I was very concerned this morning when I was out shovelling and saw that a lot of the birds were acting funny apparently because of the snow cover and lack of available food. I went out in my yard and dusted off the birdfeeder and threw some seed around. I'm concerned about the cardinals and the mockingbirds.
I'm also concerned about the swallows.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 11:02 AM
Biff I was trying (and failing) to be sarcastic.
So after all that talk of Match Game the other day I set my DVR and watched about 10 episodes this weekend. One of them had Charles Nelson Reilly running around and stealing various pieces of the sets throughout the show. You see run past behind Gene to swipe Brett's Name off the wheel. The best though was all of a sudden he walks back onto the set after having grabbed a section of the huge letters right off the Match Game logo and says to Gene deadpan, "Peter Marshall's cufflinks arrived"
Thanks again guys for reminding me how good that was.

Be interesting to see if What is banned whether or not BHO shows up or not. Sock puppet or copy cat? That is the question.
Posted by: wasder at March 2, 2009 11:45 AM
im sure you can answer questions dave. anyone could. i could answer my own questions if i had questions. it's more about my energy and aura in generally being totally out of wack these days, maybe a little moreso than usual, or perhaps less than usual, it's hard to explain. that's why id rather find someone who can give me insight into energy reallignment. (and fyi im not one of those new age freaks!) but i do believe in my own energies and i think something is wrong, really wrong. i want to get to the bottom of it.
i had a very good (tranny actually) psychic who approached me on the street one day a few years and gave me a FREE reading. i never really got her name or number and she totally changed my life for a bit and clarified so much. she spot on with everything she said.

There was one on 5th Ave next to the 5th Ave diner. She appears to have been priced out. As a psychic, she really should have seen that rent increase coming, so perhaps it is just as well.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at March 2, 2009 12:02 PM
"I thought it was decided that BHO is not What, no?"
I thought so too but for me personally this issue got re-opened because BHO and I were having a one on one dialogue in a very old thread that nobody else really would have known was going and then all of a sudden What bursts in with a trademark blast and I got all suspicious again.

ditto....I stayed at the Hotel Marconi on the San Polo side of the Rialto Bridge. It's old and small...we were there in Novemebr and got a huge room upgrade...I think to Room # 4...giant. Ask them what's the name of the incredibly good small restaurant around the corner...all fish I believe. Very romantic roo
Also, another one I looked at but did not stay at was Hotel Flora...very close to St. Mark's Sq. It was small, and rooms looked nice. It was across from where we ate breakfast alot so I just decided to pop in and see what it looked like.
If your budget permits it DO NOT stay at the Danielli on the water side...too much noise too early in the morning.

Yes, THL, that one with the young Asian girl is terrific. It would be easier for her though if she had a Mac.

"The What, Brownstoner was having server problems. Maybe you weren't banned."
Yes I was but i won't go into details.
I would like to take this opportunity to say good bye to the retards.. The whole financial world is going Tango Uniform and my predictions are panning out. Thanks for stopping by and destroying a once beautiful city! It will take a long time to bring New York back from the invasion of the Asshats. Cya!

Where on Earth is BRG?
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 3:48 PM
Mopar,
I saw that too! I've been quite the recessionista. My crown is made from tin foil and is bejeweled with bottle caps. I've been dutifully coupon clipping and shopping the circulars. I've also found/created a myriad of really awesome casserole recipes (But then, I've always liked a good casserole). It might sound weird but I get a kick out of making awesome out of nothing.
As for the Saltines, you spread them each of them with MAhhhhhgerine- deelish!. I'm kidding, that's gross I had an old lady neighbor that did that when I was little.

Tell us What....what will it look like when it's "brought back" from the invasion of the Asshats????? What will a "Utopian What" neighborhood look like???
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 2, 2009 3:51 PM
I've had that pie Dave. It was oddly good.

going to london and popping over to venic for easter weekend, plus a day at Lake Garda. I will look into the recommendations. I do like the idea of overlooking the Grand Canal though.
Posted by: dittoburg at March 2, 2009 4:01 PM
Dittoburg;
Lake Garda!! I am SO envious. Although, as I already told you, I much prefer Lago di Como.
Posted by: benson at March 2, 2009 4:04 PM
There are plenty of places overlooking the canal where there is no land between the hotel and the canal....so that tourists are not out there at all hours....anything around Hotel Flora...there are some very nice ones, albeit a lot more expensive. The danielli was $880 a night back when I last stayed there 5-6 years ago. Not worth it.

Why not?
And for someone who was banned you are doing a lot of posting.
Posted by: wasder at March 2, 2009 4:09 PM
yes Benson, Como is lovely, but a bit too far of a drive in the short time we have. But we are going to the northern end of Garda which is much more fjord-like than the southern end of Garda because the mountains close in there.
Posted by: dittoburg at March 2, 2009 4:11 PM
wasder....don't beat yourself up trying to get an answer on anything from the What. And, details are not his strength either.

Just because I'm not in NY and my wireless service has been shoddy at best today and I can't post, doesn't mean I'm not paying attention.
When I get back, some will get a hearty thanks for their kind words, while others will get a punch in the chin!

Biff....what the hell is going on up there????
Children who gambled at age 11 were more likely to have been hyperactive and impulsive 5-year-olds, suggesting symptoms of risky behavior can be found early in life, researchers said.
In a study of 163 Canadian students, 14 percent of sixth graders reported playing cards for money, 13 percent played video games for money, 8 percent placed bets at sports venues or on games, such as pool or bowling, and 4 percent bought lottery tickets.

I'm not a big fan of Herbal Teas. I like a strong cup of traditional English Black Tea either Barry's, Lyon's or PG. When I can't get those Tetley British Blend is in almost every supermarket and is quite good. For me it's just a drop of milk and and one level tsp. of sugar.
So far as Herbal Teas go, I've had some of the TAZO teas and they have really nice blends.

That cracked me up THL. I don't think "tea bagging" means what they think it means. At least I *hope* not.

Can somebody organize a BStoner snowball fight? I could then have someone to play with in the snow (my friends are lame!) and all of you who have issues with each other can battle it out in a nice, non-lethal manner :)

What if you are really banned godspeed to you. You have definitely had an impact on this board, both positive and negative. Your absence will be mourned by some, celebrated by others. A colorful character you are. I look forward to seeing whether you take BHO with you or not.

How was that not warm and fuzzy? I just said you were a big influence on this board and that some people would miss you. I wasn't taking a shot at you. I said god speed What. I have nothing against you.
Posted by: wasder at March 2, 2009 9:28 PM
THL, I know you are sprucing up the house now, but -- casseroles! Do you have GOOD casserole recipes? We are being very frugal (hahahaha) and cooking three nights a week (see, very frugal) and I've gone through just about every permutation of fricassee and stew I can think of. I'm running out of ideas here.
I went so far as to buy an ancient "One Pot Cooking" book by Reader's Digest at a library book sale last weekend.
I made a sort of casserole last week, ground lamb with zuchinni, adapted from Junior League, but it wasn't very good. (Merguez sausage with eggplant, however, is good.)
I want grandma recipes, things falling off the bone that are actually good, but everything is "take an expensive cut of meat..." There must be some kind of Mexican pork stew I can make from ingredients around the neighborhood.
Posted by: mopar at March 2, 2009 10:06 PM
wasder - you need to be more careful with your choice of words when dealing with him. The what's vocabulary is limited, he's Mr. cut 'n' paste, and acronyms are his main tool of expression. No doubt "godspeed" was interpreted as goddam.
