BREAKING: Murdoch Buying The Brooklyn Paper!
The Observer is reporting that News Corporation has a deal to purchase The Brooklyn Paper. "We're very excited," said The Paper's editor Gersh Kuntzman. The purchase comes on the heels (well, three years after) the media companies purchase of The Courier Life Chain. That leaves, what, The Brooklyn Eagle and Brownstoner? $10 million and it's all yours, Rupe.

hey gersh:
new boss.
same as the old boss.
its quite a humorous thing that the post thinks that the brooklyn papers are part of an answer to its woes.
there is one born every minute murdoch. or so i am told.
this follow the leader stuff with newspapers is gonna burn lots of cash and be fine depression era theater. they will still be gone as we know them in 5 years but it will be fun to watch.

Gersh Kuntzman, 2006: "Brooklyn needs us too much right now, what with local papers being snapped up by billionaire moguls who have no interest in local news except maximizing classified ad sales. Has Rupert Murdoch even BEEN to Brooklyn? His reporters don't know the territory, either."
Gersh Kuntzman, 2009: "We're very excited."

I have no idea how The Brooklyn Paper is doing financially, but I assume News Corp bought it to help eliminate competition for local ad dollars. Some weekly chains are still doing quite well financially compared to big city dailies. They pay little in salaries because their reporters are just out of school, they only print once a week, and their ad revenues are supplied by small local businesses--not the huge department store chains and automakers/car dealerships that have abandoned the dailies.

I thought that the way this Kuntzman character handled the death of Robert Guskind was deplorable.
He's a hack.

Great- if the Brooklyn Paper is as responsible and promotes the same level of journalism as the Post, it'll be yet another piece to put on the trash heap. What a shame- Murdoch's papers and media empire are the armpit of the media world. Ugh and gack.

Does the FCC exist anymore? I personally will NEVER read the Brooklyn Paper again. When The Post ran that offensive cartoon, I was finished and now I am finished with the Brooklyn Paper.

Now the Post can legitimately steal the Brooklyn Papers' local stories, unlike the NY Times which just does it and sometimes gives them attribution.
The BP was going the way of the Post anyway, or more like its British cousin the Sun.
What's next, nekkid pix of Slope women on page 3?

I work for the Post so I am getting a kick out of these replies.

I've always sort of wondered what kind of people work for the Post (or, let's say, Fox News). Do they try not to think about it? Not to over-analyze? Do they have mirrors in their homes? Do they ever look in them?

Finally an honest company running another newspapaer. Ever notice in the crime by precinct section of the Brooklyn Paper they never give the descriptions of the robbers/muggers. Wouldn't that be good for us to know? And why don't they do that? The victims always give descriptions of the perpetrators.
