East River State Park Re-Opens Early

east-river-state-park-0309.jpgThere was much grousing when the State announced last fall that East River State Park, the newish park on the Williamsburg waterfront between North 7th and 9th Streets, would be closed to the public from January through March for budgetary reasons. Well, the grousing can stop now: According to an email from the Friends of the East River State Park (reproduced on Gowanus Lounge) the park re-opened yesterday, following intense negotiations by the Friends of the East River State Park. Snow sculpture time!

Shouldn't you all be a little chearier on this beautiful snow day? You are complaining about a park opening? What a bunch of losers.

Thanks for your perspicacious commentary Putnam. The Parks department is under orders to considerably reduce its budget and it is laying off experienced workers. As a budget cutting measure they decided to close this windy park for a few months in the winter to save tens of thousands of dollars. There is a large park within walking distance (McCarren) and if one really needs to get to the river one still can in the small park a few blocks away at the bottom of Grand St.

Dingbat.

Putnam, check your math. We are just a COUPLE of losers. In order for us to have qualified as a BUNCH of losers we'd have needed one more. Oh, but wait, there you are!

Calling people losers, Hmmm, talk about not being cheery! The pot called the kettle what?

Correction: duo of downbeats. Losers was too strong, sorry.
