Development Watch: 805 5th Avenue

805-5th-Avenue-Brooklyn-0309.jpg
This Scarano-esque six-story new building at 805 5th Avenue will have nice views of the Green-Wood Cemetery when (if) it's completed. (It was stalled out over the summer but work resumed last fall.) The 12-unit building is unlikely to win any awards for contextual design though. GMAP P*Shark DOB

That has to be the most offensively ugly building ever featured on this site. I would be so pissed if I lived on that block.

I don't think there's much "context" in that neighborhood... I actually like this building.

You're going to tell me the surrounding building are beautiful?

Posted by: tybur6 at March 16, 2009 2:48 PM

are there any floor plans? listing prices? etc?

Posted by: guikazoid at March 16, 2009 2:55 PM

Prisonesque

Posted by: goldie at March 16, 2009 2:55 PM

i drive down that block reguarly, its not that bad!

Posted by: guikazoid at March 16, 2009 2:56 PM

Not going to say the surrounding buildings are beautiful but that is beyond brutal and hideous.

Posted by: wasder at March 16, 2009 3:14 PM

Thank goodness not 'contextual'.

Posted by: Petebklyn at March 16, 2009 3:25 PM

It won't be brutal when the surrounding buildings are razed and complementary 6-story buildings surround it.

Posted by: tybur6 at March 16, 2009 3:25 PM

Doesn't seem that bad to me. And yes the houses next door aren't that pretty either. But most houses aren't. For example I describe my house as being warm and funny and having a great personality.

perhaps if it was a 6 story condo with vinyl siding that was 16' wide and sags in the middle? would that do it?

Posted by: lalaland at March 16, 2009 3:49 PM

Seriously, that is probably the best looking building for 5-10 blocks in either direction up 5th Avenue.

"perhaps if it was a 6 story condo with vinyl siding that was 16' wide and sags in the middle? would that do it?"

Lalaland;

Excellent! Now THIS should be the QOTD.

Very snarky, thanks folks... with the exception of the first post. There are some lovely frames and smaller brick homes near by...take a look sometime.

Let's just play off the contextual point of this point, which this POS is not.

Guess Scarano must be out of work since someone else is using up all of his signature black bricks.

Barf.

In this area, contextual is the only point you have besides the one on your head. I agree if it were vinyl sided and sagging, you wouldn't even have that. What is the point?

Posted by: ou812 at March 16, 2009 4:43 PM

Ironically, it looks like a gravestone on its side. There's your context.

I've sen worse, and in the same general area (certainly on 4th Avenue). I don't think it's so bad.

Do you get an orange jump suit upon sale completion ? Assume design based on sing sing.

"Let's just play off the contextual point of this point, which this POS is not."

I meant "point of this post"

Thanks for "pointing" that out...again, snarkily.

"For example I describe my house as being warm and funny and having a great personality."

Ha, that cracked me up.

I don't mind this building too much. Actually like the grey.

We aren't being snarky, we are pointing out that we don't think much of the context. Really, if every development were "contextual" there would be no change at all. But of course there is not truth in this, only opinion.

I'll take a house with a great personality before this frak.

Want context... Here it is.
