Streetlevel: Chase Revealed on Myrtle

The new Chase branch at 402 Myrtle Avenue at Vanderbilt Avenue in Clinton Hill should be open any day now, judging from the recently revealed exterior. It will go head-to-head with the Citibank one block away on Clinton Avenue.

As much as I hate banks taking up so many storefronts, in this case, this adds a little much needed sparkle and freshness to that formerly drab corner.
It's an improvement.

that corner has only been drab since gourmet kitchen closed down. and with b of a, citibank and one other (can't remember the name) nearby, seems like overkill to me.

There's not another Chase nearby that I can think of.
I think it stands to reason that people might want to have a branch of their own bank within walking distance.
Having a Bank of America and Citibank nearby does nothing for those who bank at Chase.
Once there's multiples of each bank within a few blocks, that's when it's annoying, in my opinion.

true, but does chase serve grits?
Posted by: randolph at February 27, 2009 2:16 PM
with citibank at $.60 per share right now, who knows how long that branch will be there.

off topic, but i would kill to have an hsbc branch on smith street.

There is a Chase at Washington and Flushing. Interesting how Myrtle continues to attract so much more commercial activity (of the legit sort) than Fulton, despite the latter's location on top of subway line.

I have to agree w/ BowlOfDicks on this one... we def need an HSBC on smith or on court (south of Atlantic).

Anyone know what's up with that small tower going up in the background of the photo? Condos I assume, but the construction has been at a snails pace (but consistently making progress) for probably 18 months now.

Yuck! Why is there a one-story building here with nothing above it?!

Very interesting point, hopefully now with the fulton bid in effect fulton can get some of that myrtle love.

I'm all for the Chase, there is no Washington Mutual remotely close so when they switch to Chase I'm in luck.

I don't know... Chase, Walgreens and Verizon all in the same 3 months? Sounds like the corporate location scouts have their sights set on Myrtle.
Now if we could just get them to work on those grits...

P-d, as DBL alludes, the Myrtle Avenue BID staff makes things happen in a way that Fulton Street just isn't organized to do yet. But I would not expect much from Fulton Street until the beginning of the next fiscal year, July 1.
fwiw, I agree with zinka. Absolutely no good reason for constructing a one-story building on such a prominent corner.

How close is that to Brooklyn Flea? Now the customers can run over on Saturday and take out more money. At $0.60 a share, won't they become a penny stock if that holds for 60 days? I have $1.20 left after this recession, I'll take two shares please.

Couldve built a two story structure and have country kitchen AND Chase in that location.
Chase makes lousy scrambled eggs.

Hah. Has anyone seen the half-assed job someone did putting up the adhesive blue "Coming Soon" vertical signs in the windows?
The ones I saw on the Vanderbilt side definitely were new signs on a brand-new facade, but the new signs were all bubbled, mangled, warped and torn by whomever put them up, as if they could care less.
Had me totally cracking up.

Oh, another thing...what are those white pilings that come up 6-8 feet or so above the roof along the Vanderbilt side?
They are visible in the photo above.

I for one am psyched about it. I hate going to the chase on Fulton St., it's always crowded.
Yeah, two banks right next to each other is a bit over kill, but I belong to chase so I can't complain.
Posted by: oldbaby at March 1, 2009 8:30 PM
The white pilings are steel beams that were attached to new footings in the basement. There is a future build up planned.
