Streetlevel: Asian Market for Wallabout

There aren't a lot of options in Wallabout right now if you want a loaf of bread or a quart of milk and none at all if you're looking for Total yogurt or organic greens. All that may change soon, according to a tipster. The corner retail space at 275 Park Avenue at the northwest corner of Washington is under construction and a couple of workers confirmed that an "Asian market" is in the works. It's quite a big space so this could be interesting. GMAP

Think this means a market owned by Asians (Asian-Americans), or a place catering to the Asian expat market?

Finally. This space has been available forever.

Yeah, the workers probably saw the Asian owner and that's where they got that from!!!!
Is there really a big Asian population in Wallabout????

Neither, dreamking, it's where you go to buy Asians.
Sorry; in bad taste.

A lot of the warehouses in the area seem to be owned and operated by people from Asia, given the signs etc. Be great if there were a big market selling asian foodstuffs there - the times I get out to Chinatown way out in Bay Ridge (?), I always have a good time, and fill my freezer.
That said - shame on the racist comments above. I'll leave to each of us to decide which ones are cute, which ones are in bad taste and which ones are out and out racists. Taken as a whole they are pretty loathsome.

It would be totally awesome if it is a real Asian market (i.e. sells Asian groceries)! The closest right now are on East Broadway in Chinatown.

Brownstoner,
Thanks for calling the neighborhood by its correct name, Wallabout.

I have resisted doing this all day, but now I am tired and lack the will to be cautious. Let's recap: dreamking asks whether 'stoner is using the word "Asian" to describe the ownership of the market or the clientele. Pure clarification. DIBS makes fun of the fact that sometimes people jump to conclusions based on little information, and then states, with regard to clientele, that few Asians live in Wallabout, in his opinion. I play with semantics and joke--there wasn't anybody that actually thought I was advocating for slavery, was there?--that "Asian" is a noun, not an adjective, as dreamking was deconstructing the original post. A market in Asians, not of or for or even gastronomic. DIBS responds with a quip that indicates that he finds Asian males attractive. This last comment is the only one that makes a generalization based on race. Race is referred to here, but I see little racism, and certainly none that I would describe as loathsome.

What matters is: a new food market in the hood! Spectacular news. Memo to Fairway: Try a new, micro-grocery format? Start here? Thanks.
