Has anyone eaten at the new Turkish place Deniz yet? I walk past it almost every day and haven't seen a person at a table yet? Bad time to open a restaurant.

Hoping that today is the high volume cathartic selloff in the market that we've been looking for!!!!

Don't think they exactly nailed the Fort Greene vibe either when it comes to restaurants

looking in restaurant windows can be depressing sometimes ive noticed a lot lately. maybe i look in windows at the wrong time of day or something but everything always seems so empty, especially newer restaurants. which is sad. wish i could patronize restaurants more, but like a lot of people, i just don't have the luxury.

went to the bell house in gowanus last night for the first time, it was pretty deec! (but thank goodness i have a car to driggity drive there) i highy recommend, especially their 2 for 1 happy hour, which includes even fancy drinks.

You shouldn't be drinking and driving, BOD. :P <<<That's a drunk emoticon with tongue hanging out.

BOD, are you still drunk?

Union Hall had suggested we have our gathering there (they are affiliated, along with Floyd NYC). Apparently they have a lot of space, but ultimately I think Floyd NYC works best for people in terms of transportation.

bowlofdicks, were you there for the tweetup? I was supposed to go but got stuck at work...

Posted by: SouthParker at February 27, 2009 9:51 AM

I have noticed that too in regards to restaurants.
I walk by Ten Japanese many times a week and it used to be packed at night - not so much nowadays.
Also - anyone try that new Greek place "Athena" on 6th avenue and 14th street - the menu looks promising

Posted by: gemini10 at February 27, 2009 9:52 AM

Are the bathrooms at Floyd's unisex?
They are at Union Hall and that creeped me out.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at February 27, 2009 9:53 AM

Please god, let there be another Fed-engineered bubble, to bail me out of all my stupid decisions. Failing that, socialize my imprudence by spreading my red ink on to future generations...

Posted by: Whuh at February 27, 2009 9:53 AM

Biff - stone sober this AM and no hangover either, feeling good! Agree that Floyd's is the better option. will they be having 2 for 1 happy hour on the 19th? :-)

BRG - are you a prude???

Posted by: dittoburg at February 27, 2009 9:56 AM

Let's keep it at Floyd's, Biff. I think we'll get better turnout. It is a lot more convenient.

I was thinking last night about the various political/sociological arguments we have been having the last couple of days concerning the What and the bull versus bear dynamic. I realized that we are mirroring the national political dialogue quite a bit. As Obama's message in the campaign was overcoming stale political rhetoric and partisanship that has gridlocked our national dialogue, I feel like the discussion about the What (and BHO, cornerbodega etc) and what is appropriate language on here is very much like the situation we find ourselves in nationally. As a country we are very much in a mess on many fronts and the only way out is to overcome the kind of partisan rancor that has paralyzed our political system. I feel like my attempts at outreach (and those of Biff yesterday as well) are in line with the national attempt to reconcile seemingly intractable positions on domestic policy. While I have very little optimism that I personally am going to be able to get What (or BHO or any other person hell bent on the rollback of Brownstone Brooklyn) to see my POV, I do think it is more important to try than to worry about that. I would much rather risk looking like a naive chump than to continue down a path of distrust and rancor. I agree with Benson that there should be some baseline decency necessary for the establishment of dialogue (in the same way we as a nation don't historically talk to rogue countries) but I guess I also understand that to bring together practically diametrically opposed world views will take a greater than usual amount of patience (the same way Obama is suggesting we dialogue with Iran without precondition, or the way Obama has been attempting to bring Republicans into the fold on domestic policy). I acknowledge the correctness of what THL wrote yesterday that we would probably get bored with each other pretty quickly without all the vitriol but a little boring peace would be most appreciated by me right now.

My two cents for the morning. Just realized I was grinding on this in bed last night and thought I would toss it out there.

Posted by: wasder at February 27, 2009 10:00 AM

I had no problem with the unisex bathrooms because I usually close the door. That said, there weren't ANY hot looking guys there so that was my issue.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at February 27, 2009 10:02 AM

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! this should be added to the dog thread from yesterday!

...
Neighbor Feuds —The tenants of the Upper Upper West Side's Park West Village came together to try and fight the construction of the Columbus Village megadevelopment, but now infighting in the complex's red-brick towers is tearing them apart: A lawyer has filed a $500,000 lawsuit over her downstairs neighbor's incessantly barking chihuahua. The "whining, barking, yapping and squealing" kicks off around 6:30 a.m. and contributes to the plaintiff's chronic back pain, the suit says. Both the dog's owner and the property's management firm, Olmstead, are named as defendants. [NYDN]

DIBS, it's definitely staying at Floyd NYC.

BOD, was just teasing...the "deec" and "driggity drive" threw me off.

I don't think we'll get 2 for 1, but the management said they'll have wrist bands to give out which will get us $1 or so off each drink (I know it's not 2 for 1, but I guess it's better than nothing). I don't know if they have a Happy Hour generally...I don't see it on their website.

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 10:04 AM

wasder...well put. You didn't need to add the ending bit about "grinding on this in bed last night."

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 10:09 AM

I can agree with you there wasder. I've just been feeling that everyone stops listening as soon as the first insult gets thrown out and the all we react to are the insults, not the content. That's one of the things I really respect about Obama- he seems more than willing to not only think outside t he box, but to look beyond the rhetoric to the actual content of what's being said.

Unfortunately the majority of politicians on both sides of the aisle haven't figured that out yet. Sad to say, neither have many of us here. Maybe THL is right- the vitriol can be fun. But I think it tires quickly when there is so much serious stuff going on. For some people all they want is the vitriol- they don't care if anyone gets what they are saying its the vitriol they like.

Posted by: bxgrl at February 27, 2009 10:09 AM

wasder, very nice post. And you hit the nail on the head re: boring peace. It doesn't mean we can't have heated debates, but I ultimately saw no purpose in engaging in vicious back and forth insult hurling with no attempt to gain knowledge.

"Just realized I was grinding on this in bed last night and thought I would toss it out there."

Posted by: bayridgegirl at February 27, 2009 10:14 AM

Wasder and all;

Don't agree. I appreciate your sentiments, but I think you are missing the point. I think THL said it best yesterday.

I don't have a problem with folks who disagree with me. Heck, as Mr. "Red State" on this board, I think the only guy who agrees with me is Christopher. If I was looking for folks to agree with me, I wouldn't be posting on Brownstoner.

I've got a pretty thick skin too. All I'm saying is that folks who consistently show a lack of civility, or do so to gain notoriety, should not be rewarded with legitimacy.

Hey, but then again, I'm famous at work for my twist on the old saying "The customer is always right". My maxim is "5% of the customers are jerks, and not worth dealing with".

Benson, I appreciate that you can respectfully disagree with me on this. And god knows I will probably change my tune the next time I read one of BHO's cyber turds, but for now that is how I feel. You are a good guy two, right wing tendencies and all! (haha)

Desert Rose, With Or Without You, Don't You forget About Me, White Wedding, Somebody To Love, Stand By Your Man and, finally, the best karaoke song ever as well as the most relevant: Radiohead's "Creep." A few others

I most certainly do! In fact, I've almost gotten to the point of giving up on any kind of political or economic debate on Brownstoner. Yesterday's thread on the housing index just about did it for me. In case you haven't seen it, take a look. Nothing but caricature and derision. I compare it to what you would see on a cable TV foodfight.

Posted by: benson at February 27, 2009 10:56 AM

rob - you might think using the word 'mixologist' is a bunch of douchebaggery, but with so many bad drinks being made (how effing hard is a decent Manhattan?!), i think a really good maker deserves a name to differentiate themselves from the mediogre 'bartenders'.

"I've almost gotten to the point of giving up on any kind of political or economic debate on Brownstoner."

This is precisely my point. If this happens nationally we are screwed. I hope you don't give up because you are pretty good at expressing your POV and its an important one on here. Otherwise we would be a serious left wing echo chamber. Don't get me wrong I am pretty left of center overall but I appreciate the chance to mix it up and would rather here opposing viewpoints than a constant chorus of amens.

Posted by: wasder at February 27, 2009 11:04 AM

The big flaw in peoples thinking is that they think The What might be open to listening to your POV. He only listens to your POV so he can find something that contradicts it. He enjoys the attention he garners from his engaging in arguments and insults.

Even if he agreed with you he'd find something to cut and paste to state the contrary.

There are many people who will vehemently disagree with your POV yet will engage you in a conversation (heated as it may be) as to why they do and will listen to what you've said and perhaps change their opinion slightly or better understand why you feel as you do.

The What is not one of them. Which is why he never answers a question directed to him.

If you want an arguments for arguments sake because you're bored or need to vent on someone then The What is your man.

Otherwise he's just a loutish child who is best ignored lest he think he's become relevant.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at February 27, 2009 11:05 AM

That should be "latter."

Posted by: dylanfan at February 27, 2009 11:05 AM

THL, I don't necessarily agree with your statement that What he always wants to contradict everything one says. I've agreed with him on various issues and he hasn't fought back or tried to then find something to contradict me.

Regarding HOW he sometimes delivers his message, I can't and won't try to defend that. Ignoring is definitely the most effective way to avoid confrontations and perfectly fine if that works for you.

Posted by: PitbullNYC at February 27, 2009 11:23 AM

wasder, there was an instance earlier this week I think where BHO used The What's exact tagline and it didn't seem to be linked to anything the What said. That did get me a bit suspicious...

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 11:26 AM

A few days ago I was having a dialogue with BHO in a thread that was several days old (ie--nobody else should have been aware that there was still active discussion going on, but BHO and I were going at each other over some bullshit) when all of a sudden, while waiting for BHO to respond in comes What with a typical What-ism. That made me super suspicious because there is no reason anyone else would have been aware of an active dialogue in a thread that old.

If it is performance "art" (parentheses indicate a low opinion of its artistic merits) he/she has created two distinct but symbiotically linked personas, both misanthropic but in different tones.

I'll second you on the dialogue, benson. I don't mind debating ideas- what gets me going is when someone can't just disagree, but they have to insult you for thinking differently.

But I do have to disagree with you -for the most part that thread was very lively and interesting. Yes- there was some snarking, but in general it was a good discussion. You and I disagree on quite a few things- and usually I enjoy discussing with you except that you get pissy right away.

Yesterday you lumped me, joe and Whuh together implying that joe and I post the same insults and derision that Whuh does. You also know that is patently false and I find it hugely insulting. Joe and I might not agree with your ideas but we hardly insulted you- I know I certainly didn't.

Rant/

Rob made a reference about people who shop in Downtown Brooklyn that smelled like racism.

"i really really also hope this doesnt sound too messed up to say, but most shops that cater to people on government assistance to begin with always do well regardless of the economy. millions of people are losing their jobs and have to cut back, but welfare and benefits money is still there. actually i might be sounding ignorant, do people still get welfare money or is it just in the form of housing assistance and food benefits?

Biff made a very good point yesterday and that retard Brownstoner did not use it for the QOTD! And you know why? Because its was great view from the other side!!! Brownstoner=Punk!!!

Although I am mighty tempted to show up on the 19th and meet some of you charming raconteurs, and I do think the wit on this site is very special, I think it best to keep my real life and my cyber life separate. In some ways "sam" is my alter-ego and in many ways he is the opposite of me and yet if you actully meet me, and go forbid, see me at business meetings or whatever, you will think that is "sam" who wrote this and that.....
I guess I am also a little afraid that I actually know some of you already and that would be awkward as well. I know lots and lots of people in the real estate and affiliated fields.
Real life is so fraught. Blogging is just for fun.

I recollect last week you seemed to enjoy talking about the old days of Black radio and were enjoying having a good convo, but then you turned kinda crazy attacking MM and everyone started picking on you again...
Perhaps if you had some balance and shared some insight on other forum threads - perhaps people would leave you alone a bit more.....
just my 2 cents

Posted by: gemini10 at February 27, 2009 12:00 PM

Bxgrl and all;

I think we are getting a couple of issues mixed up:

a) Insults. I didn't say that anyone insulted me on the housing index thread yesterday. My comments regarding insults and invective was directed at The What, and that was the conversation on the Open Thread yesterday.

b) The Housing Index Thread. I brought this thread up in response to Wasder's question about the nature of the political and economic debates on Brownstoner I said that the tone of the political and economic debates on Brownstoner often descend into the realm of caricature and derision. Here is an example from Joe the Bummer (this post came after 11217's post stating that Repulicans are "Un-American"):

"sorry I'm late. Here's my take on the republicans. How do you knit together a party with:

a) good ol' boys
b) bible thumpers
c) very rich people
d) people who don't like mexicans
e) military families

and deliver any kind of cohesive message to them, without falling back on a darkly cynical appeal to people's basic, shameful self interest?

oh wait. they won twice in a row with that."

Does anybody really believe that this describes a party that garnered 47% of the vote in the last national election? Is this a discussion of ideas, or caricature? This goes to Wasder's point about the tone of the debate here.

Joe is a good guy, and after a couple of posts in which I appealed to his reasonableness, he relented. However, this type of thing happens too often.

Bxgrl: you know that you're my favorite sparring partner on this site ;-). You can't keep in good shape unless you have a worthy sparring partner!

Posted by: benson at February 27, 2009 12:02 PM

The above rant illustrates my point about the phoniness of the What persona. Notice the spelling and grammar of the 11:55 post. Does this sound like the more typical spelling and syntax challenged screes?

It's all too inconsistent. I don't buy it. Heck, I wouldn't even rent it.

"Besides, as I pointed out above, who here really thinks that the "unthinkable" has happening??"

I don't know. I said "happening". Recognize the tense.

Posted by: benson at February 27, 2009 12:08 PM

So true benson (did I ever mention my dad used to box Golden gloves?)

I think joe did indulge in ....er...hyperbole. But I think his point was to show the perceptions that exist from this side. I read an article today that talked about how the Republicans like to call the Dems the party of tax and spend, yet they have spent the last 8 years being the party of tax, borrow and spend. Yet the tax and spend label is used to promote a party mythology. Very interesting article- I'll try to find the link. It was an assessment of Jindal's speech- the writer made a very interesting analysis of it.

Benson, the only thing I can say about this is that there was an awful lot of ridiculous characterization of liberals during the Bush years (think John Kerry is a French elitist). It is hard for some people to resist the temptation to retaliate when the shoe is on the other foot.

Posted by: wasder at February 27, 2009 12:16 PM

Posted by: wasder at February 27, 2009 12:17 PM

Wasder;

Political campaigns are hardball, and caricaturing is one of the tools of choice. That is what hardball politics is all about. My question, therefore, which I asked yesterday is: do folks want to discuss issues and ideas, or do they want to engage in "campaign sloganeering"?

Posted by: benson at February 27, 2009 12:21 PM

What- prodigal son did go after rob.

I dunno, DIBS, rob certainly needs an editor sometimes and from what he said later it's pretty clear his perspective is rather different than how most of us took it. I guess it goes back to the old discussions we used have about code words, and how we insinuate or infer things from them. For me, I am maybe overly sensitive about them. When I was married I got to experience it a lot from white people who didn't know I was married to a black man. Or get asked very strange questions about what was it like to be in an interracial marriage. Pretty much the same as being married to a white guy, I'm guessing. Your ear gets attuned and sometimes your perspective gets a little too biased.

That said, yes I thought rob's statement was racist but in view of his explanation- especially his comment about his mother- it may be my misperception.

Posted by: bxgrl at February 27, 2009 12:22 PM

Benson, I hear you about the difference between campaigning and ideas/governing principles. Many people, myself included sometimes, find it hard to give up the fight of the campaign.

in re issues, the governing priorities of the Obama administration as spelled out in yesterday's budget is a prime target.

Posted by: wasder at February 27, 2009 12:25 PM

> "Why bother? You are upset with TEAM Bear"

Silly rabbit, I am Team Bear.

Posted by: SnarkSlope at February 27, 2009 12:31 PM

benson- I posted my opinion and ideas on the situation in general and you told me I was making a campaign speech. Although we agree to disagree, we were basically not having the same conversation. We were having an apples and avocadoes conversation. To me campaign sloganeering is sound bytes- mostly nasty and misleading sound bytes.

Folks do want to talk ideas and issues- but, especially regarding what wasder is saying, somehow the Republicans have to understand that the past 8 years and the way they ran the country is not going to be forgotten so easily. They left scars. Huge scars. Even the last presidential campaign- while Obama was talking policies and issues, McCain and Palin were talking Ayers and Wright and that true moron Joe the Plumber.

Posted by: bxgrl at February 27, 2009 12:32 PM

benson, yes, I like to put out the flag on holidays, it's just one of those american traditions I like. No biggie. But some were insulted by it. perhaps because they were overcome with political rancor or becuase they felt that the flag symbolized the current administration rather than the country. Or maybe they just don't like their country, I mean that's not uncommon.
Everyone is on a "The What" trip today on the open thread. I don't even read his posts. I miss what the fascination is all about. Anyway, all the more reason to keep my brownstoner relationship strictly electronic.

I read a forum that uses phpBB and it has a "Friends and Foes" feature.

You add someone to your "Foes" list and it'll hide all their posts. Very convenient little feature.

And just to throw this out there, "tax and spend" is, I think, the most overused, and misused, political description. Governments tax and they spend the revenue, it's what they do. The issue is how much tax and what it is being spent on.

Although, I'd be in favor of testing out a tax and not spend government for a while, a "for profit" model. We all buy shares and then get dividends at the end of the fiscal year. How'd you think that would work out....

BRG, hilarious response to benson!

What, that's a really interesting question. Like almost everyone else, I've had friends affected by the economic downturn...not any family thus far, however (although the rest of my family either doesn't work or is self-employed and they haven't been affected at all). As for work, I've seen tons of colleagues been shown the door over at least an 18 month period. Some have landed in other positions, but most haven't. I'm still employed in the same job I've had for a few years now.

I didn't consider up to now if that is what may have made me change with respect to our dialogues. I am sure, at least on a subconscious level, I have realized that much of what you said was a lot more accurate than what others, including me, were saying or thinking. Additionally, I genuinely did get very sick and tired of our constant attacks and decided to stop it. When I saw you put the guns down when I did, I then realized perhaps we could actually be civil and maybe even learn some things from each other.

Moving on...

let me distract everyone from BRG's embarrassment with a poo story even bigger than rob's. Scouring the NYTimes online archive for nonsense like I normally do I read an 1800s article where the NYC board of health was investigating complaints of an abominable stench coming from a boat docked at the Navy Yard. The poor investigator reported back to his superiors that there was an open barge overloaded and full to the brim with human "nightsoil" which was used in those days for making fertilizer. Apparently, the workers had stopped transferring it and the pile was rotting (even more) and spilling juice into the river and onto the dock, and needed emptying. There was also another barge sunk, with a similar cargo, that became exposed at low tide. There was some complaints about rendering pig fat too but that wasn't so interesting.
Now, no more poo stories.

Sounds like you might want to wait until after.

wasder, dibs, benson, et al, catch me up - What have i missed here? Was there some kind of dust up? [I'm out of town, I have limited web access - I feel...so...so...so out of touch! The horror! ; )]

Posted by: cobblehiller at February 27, 2009 2:06 PM

cobblehiller!!!! there you are. Finally! Ok, if you can, start with yesterday's Open Thread. You will understand all of this discussion if you do that. Don't be intimidated by the almost 300 comments. I referenced you a couple of times (in a good way). Then continue with this one.

I think you would have had a lot to add yesterday. But you still can here.

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 2:09 PM

cobble...beginning in y'day's OT we have all decided to try and get along more with the What, if he's amenable. THL, rightly so, says it won't last becasue some of us (not sure who whe would be referring to) enjoy the fight. I think one of the points being made is that the fight is Ok as long as we drop the name calling, etc.

Also, it was revealed today, that BRG swallows. I suspect others do to (like myself) but none (except me) have admitted to it...so far.

That's it, in a nutshell.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 2:10 PM

To horribly summarize, and students of philosophy please excuse me, Seneca observed the frustation people feel based on an optimistic and unsupportable belief that the world is fundamentally just, that they themselves are just, and that they will be rewarded accordingly. When of course fortune intervenes and everything goes pear-shaped for them/or others get what they themselves want, it becomes an anger at why me, a lot of "its not fair" psychology (because it was meant to be fair etc).

He recognized this silliness and invented, for want of a better word, stoicism. Your friend CB seems like a missed-opportunity world is unfair rant-against-others type hoping for indivduals to fail.

As you know, I'm team bear, and so is he, but his barely hidden bitterness .....

Hey, cobblehiller! I wondered where you were. Anything on the job front?

Posted by: bxgrl at February 27, 2009 2:12 PM

Whereas DIBS is a follower of Epicurus no?

now if only the What would make like Socrates..

Posted by: dittoburg at February 27, 2009 2:14 PM

Phew, thanks guys, I was feeling at such a loss! I'll go read yesterday's OT. I wish I'd been online. [Note to self: 1. get high paying job, 2. get blackberry so can sit on long train rides and read "Stoner pages! Not to miss a thing!]

That's very exciting to hear the BRG swallows when so few others[except DIBS] will actually admit to it! I, myself, will leave you all guessing... ; )

Posted by: cobblehiller at February 27, 2009 2:17 PM

maybe more like Cleisthenes, Ganymede or even Alexander the Great.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 2:19 PM

bsgrl, nothing yet, but I had told them I'd be out of town for a little while. I'm guessing early next week - if anything. [fingers and toes crossed.]

I feel really horrible about that comment.
Can you all please stop! I'm going to gag.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at February 27, 2009 2:22 PM

Cobble,

I was just reading that Russell Simmons has to fork over 20K/mo. per child (he and Kimora have 2 together so that's 40K) until they are 19. He also needs to buy a new car with a worth at least 60K every 3 years until the girls are aged 16 (WTF???).

So, maybe you might want to rethink your career goals and have a Simmons baby instead?

Gagging is normal, BRG. Unless they're small!!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 2:28 PM

Under NY law, its more lucrative to have babies with different fathers, it's at least 17% gross income as child support, but incremental increases for the second child etc, with that same father. Start afresh, and youll get 17% off the next father.

Posted by: dittoburg at February 27, 2009 2:29 PM

THL, excellent idea! BH would have a fit! But he likely wouldn't mind the money! : )

Posted by: cobblehiller at February 27, 2009 2:31 PM

Posted by: TownhouseLady at February 27, 2009 2:33 PM

THL, dare we ask how you know that?

All,
I'm really feeling bad about that comment, and I am truly sorry. Yes, I've said some randy things on here, but they were all subtle and never ever vulgar like that comment.

I know some of you are trying to lighten the mood about it but I'm just not feeling so great right now over it.

I'm going to take a time out. If I don't come back, Have a good weekend all.

Again I'm sorry.

BRG, are you serious? You shouldn't be upset. That was a harmless (and funny) comment and everyone knows you're just kidding around. No harm done at all! Don't sweat it.

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 2:49 PM

BRG, have a good weekend! [We're over it, you will be too, soon enough.]

Posted by: cobblehiller at February 27, 2009 2:50 PM

DIBS, since you and I love all things '80s, I'm sure you'll appreciate this from OMD:

If you leave, don’t leave now
Please don’t take my heart away
Promise me, just one more night
Then we’ll go our separate ways
We’ve always had time on our sides
Now it’s fading fast
Every second, every moment
We’ve got to, We’ve got to make it last

I touched you once, I touched you twice
I won’t let go at any price
I need you now like I needed you then
You always said we'd still be friends someday

If you leave I won't cry
I won't waste one single day
But if you leave don't look back
I'll be running the other way
Seven years went under the bridge
Like time was standing still
Heaven knows what happens now
You’ve got to, You’ve got to say you will

I touched you once, I touched you twice
I won't let go at any price
I need you now like I needed you then
You always said we'd meet again

I touched you once, I touched you twice
I won’t let go at any price
I need you now like I needed you then
You always said we’d still be friends

I touched you once, I touched you twice
I won’t let go at any price
I need you now like I needed you then
You always said we'd meet again someday

ohwoah ohwoah ohwoah ohwoah ohwoah

If you leave (ohwoah)
If you leave (ohwoah)
If you leave (ohwoah)
Don’t look back
Don’t look back

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 2:50 PM

This is like the episode of brownstoner where 11217 killed himself and then came back to life.

Posted by: dittoburg at February 27, 2009 2:51 PM

I love OMD.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 2:51 PM

If you do leave, can you make it one of those 11217/Miss Muffett farewells, i.e., the kind where you're immediately and easily convinced to instantly come right back here?

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 2:51 PM

I second Biff, BRG- there isn't a one of us who haven't posted something a little over the top and regretted it. It was far from the worst thing we've ever read. Really- no big deal. You're brash and funny and quick- don't feel badly. Lord, the poop stories were far more disgusting and gross. Don't go!

Posted by: bxgrl at February 27, 2009 2:53 PM

And it was a great come back to Biff's question about spitting!!!!!

Besides, we all do it.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 2:55 PM

Rob, don't drink during work hours! Or too much after work!

Posted by: mopar at February 27, 2009 2:55 PM

And I second bxgrl on the fact the poop stories were WAY more offensive!

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 2:55 PM

Gemini,

You KNOW she asked for more. Poor guy, she's a monster. Believe it or not I feel bad for those kids. They have no idea what it's like to enjoy the little things. She's really done a number on those two little ones.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at February 27, 2009 2:56 PM

BRG don't go! It was funny!

You are aware though that your name tag at the Brownstoner get together will read..

HELLO, My Name Is:

*GULP*

Posted by: TownhouseLady at February 27, 2009 2:58 PM

BRG, it was kind of funny.

Rob, are you still alive? You can bleed to death in three minutes. That's what they said in my Girl Scout EMT class.

Posted by: mopar at February 27, 2009 2:59 PM

Posted by: PitbullNYC at February 27, 2009 2:59 PM

"This is like the episode of brownstoner where 11217 killed himself and then came back to life. "

Episodes! LOL ditto - I know the feeling 'Stoner's my favorite soap opera!

[I'm still ading through yesterday's OT - whoa! I'm never leaving town again. ; )]

Posted by: cobblehiller at February 27, 2009 3:01 PM

Biff/Dave,

Anyone with her real email address want to tell her chin up we still love her?

Posted by: TownhouseLady at February 27, 2009 3:01 PM

rob...read the posts from 1:19 to 1:26

I'm sure you do it too!!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 3:02 PM

THL, did you really just say "tell her chin up"??

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 3:03 PM

DIBS, can you email her and be your usual sensitive, understanding, compassionate self?

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 3:04 PM

I think "chin up" is a jolly smashing thing to say.

Posted by: dittoburg at February 27, 2009 3:05 PM

oh god that's all she said?? is she just embarrassed or something? i thought all girls from bay ridge did.

*r*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at February 27, 2009 3:06 PM

Darn, I missed the fact ditto beat me to the 11217 reference.

cobblehiller, did you find out what the drama from yesterday and today re: The What was all about?

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 3:06 PM

I sent her an email.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 3:07 PM

"i thought all girls from bay ridge did."
And all boys from Park Slope (and one from Bed Stuy).

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 3:07 PM

take one on the chin?

;)

Posted by: christopher at February 27, 2009 3:08 PM

No Biff, I haven't figured out what started y'OT...but it sure is interesting anyway!

Posted by: cobblehiller at February 27, 2009 3:10 PM

"take one on the chin"

Isn't Chin the surname of DIBS' last boyfriend?

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 3:11 PM

cobblehiller, somehow a discussion got started about how and why I started getting along with The What. I didn't mean for you to figure out what started it, just meant for you to read the exchanges as I thought you would be interested in people's views on befriending him given you and he (and now he and I) are on better terms.

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 3:14 PM

DIBS - don't you like OMD's "tesla girls" better?

Posted by: dittoburg at February 27, 2009 3:16 PM

And then there's that Chinese soup.....

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 3:17 PM

Yep, I got through all of that part - I'm on like post 260 or so! I appreciate your attitude and openess. What is an interesting fellow. I know how other people feel and I can appreciate their feelings. So you're over holding my communication with What against me?! [I didn't realize you did!]

Quite a day: again, I am never leaving town or I need to get a blackberry! The drama! Better than a soap!

Posted by: cobblehiller at February 27, 2009 3:18 PM

Yes, Tesla Girls is one of their best.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 3:22 PM

BRG;

I hope that you get a chance to read this. As you know, I sometimes take statements on this site too seriously and as such, we've butted heads a few times (remember D's & T's?).

I've come to appeciate your style however, over the past few months and realize that you like to keep things light, and I mean that in a good way.

Don't be embarassed - we know you were just trying to make a joke. As BxGrl put it, we've all written things we later regretted. Come on back, BRG, please!!!

Posted by: benson at February 27, 2009 3:22 PM

"So you're over holding my communication with What against me?! [I didn't realize you did!]"

To be honest, I think I was bitter towards you for befriending him, given the heated exchanges he and I had at the time. Now I realize that was wrong of me to do that.

Posted by: Biff Champion at February 27, 2009 3:23 PM

Given others are posting lyrics here and all the talk about '80s songs (I'm a self-proclaimed '80s music expert), I feel compelled to post The Smiths "Cemetery Gates" which I referenced yesterday.

A dreaded sunny day
So I meet you at the cemetry gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side
A dreaded sunny day
So I meet you at the cemetry gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side
While Wilde is on mine

So we go inside and we gravely read the stones
All those people, all those lives
Where are they now ?
With loves, and hates
And passions just like mine
They were born
And then they lived
And then they died
It seems so unfair
I want to cry

You say : "'Ere thrice the sun done salutation to the dawn"
And you claim these words as your own
But I've read well, and I've heard them said
A hundred times (maybe less, maybe more)
If you must write prose/poems
The words you use should be your own
Don't plagiarise or take "on loan"
'Cause there's always someone, somewhere
With a big nose, who knows
And who trips you up and laughs
When you fall
Who'll trip you up and laugh
When you fall

You say : "'Ere long done do does did"
Words which could only be your own
And then produce the text
From whence was ripped
(Some dizzy whore, 1804)

A dreaded sunny day
So let's go where we're happy
And I meet you at the cemetry gates
Oh, Keats and Yeats are on your side
A dreaded sunny day
So let's go where we're wanted
And I meet you at the cemetry gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side
But you lose
'Cause weird lover Wilde is on mine

Sure !

You know she's going to be right back here and say something snarky and we'll all look like fools. She has not responded to my email.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 3:29 PM

Well, I didn't really get that you were bitter towards me, I was oblivious for some reason. Too absorbed in the ever-expanding cast of characters here. It's interesting to me that you changed your attitude/perception of the situation.

Is wasder ok? Or is he still grinding things he shouldn't be in his bed? ; ) [Turn off the news for a few days wasder - it really helps. But then, so does Xanax! Put on some tunes.]

It would be great to meet What. I wonder if he'd still like me after we met? Maybe he'd change is mind and think I'm an asshead...

Posted by: cobblehiller at February 27, 2009 3:34 PM

Didn't that lady give the chimp some Xanax before he went berserk???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 27, 2009 3:38 PM

"You know she's going to be right back here and say something snarky and we'll all look like fools. She has not responded to my email. "

Exactly right! Something truly scathing!

Maybe she's just taking a little break. I bet/hope she's back soon.

Hello everybodeeeee!!!! I seem to have missed the party :(

BRG, my dear blog luv, I'd hate to see you disappear on us!

To all: your convos are truly entertaining. I've said numerous times that I'm not financial/real estate guru and I like coming here to read everyone's opinions and pick up bits of knowledge. It gets hard sometimes trying to read between the lines of the searing hate that shows up, but I do my best. I suspect there are others on this blog (maybe non-posters) who come here for the same reasons as I do. I guess what I'm trying to say is keep up the good back and forth and try not to insult each other so much. Anger lines leave a nasty mark on the face :)
