good to know im not the only one working, but it sure felt that way driving to work today, clear and free roads. oh to be a government worker, screw up budgets, slack off, and STILL get these days off.

It's a shame that Fjorder's hilarious post following the opening one wasn't built on. I gave it a lot of thought, but couldn't come up with one worthy enough. Now the moment is lost.

Greetings all. I'm home in the ghetto on my second cup of asshat organic coffee. Just sitting here wondering when the MAB will be over and when we will all no longer be "underwasder!!!"

Hi Everybody;
Greetings from Shitzville America. The time is the same as in NY. I'm sure everyone down here is celebrating the presidents, well except for Abraham Lincoln. They still fly the confederate flag here. Hee Haw.
I wish I was going to sleep right now, so I don't have to deal with this southern lifestyle!

I'm not saying that I agree with any of it, but this was the last part of an interesting article:
* http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200903/meltdown-geography/6
"So how do we move past the bubble, the crash, and an aging, obsolescent model of economic life? What’s the right spatial fix for the economy today, and how do we achieve it?
The solution begins with the removal of homeownership from its long-privileged place at the center of the U.S. economy...
If anything, our government policies should encourage renting, not buying. Homeownership occupies a central place in the American Dream primarily because decades of policy have put it there. A recent study... shows that...homeowners are no happier than renters...
And while homeownership has some social benefits... it is costly to the economy... those places with higher homeownership rates also suffer from higher unemployment. Homeownership...is a more important predictor of unemployment than rates of unionization or the generosity of welfare benefits... it ties people to declining or blighted locations...
As homeownership rates have risen, our society has become less nimble... This sort of creeping rigidity in the labor market is a bad sign for the economy, particularly in a time when businesses, industries, and regions are rising and falling quickly."

Question for all you Mac users:
Thinking of running and picking up my first macbook at lunch today - anything i should make sure I have on it? I'm only going to be using it for music, photos and maybe messing around with a few spreadsheets from work. advice?
Posted by: dirty_hipster at February 16, 2009 10:58 AM
Snark....
1. To say that the entire system is broke because of speculation in places like FL, NV and elsewhere is a presumption that they throw out and then don't defend.
2. To imply that renters over homeowners might spend more on "That means less spending on medical technology, or software, or alternative energy. " is also not proven in any way, shape or form.
3. Yes, homeownership might tie people to blighted areas but also ties them to areas that have withstood blight.
4. I for one, have always been happier owning than renting.
5. To think that the mortgage deductibility will go away is ludicrous. You might as well bet that the sun isn't going to rise tomorrow. For better or worse, but a reality, nonetheless.
6."Next, we need to encourage growth in the regions and cities that are best positioned to compete in the coming decades: the great mega-regions that already power the economy, and the smaller, talent-attracting innovation centers inside them—places like Silicon Valley, Boulder, Austin, and the North Carolina Research Triangle." This is what creates regional bubbles anyway....like Silicon Valley!!!!!!!!!
7. Finally, they forget to address the underlying long-term economic reality of home ownership over the long term.....ONCE YOUR MORTGAGE IS PAID, YOU LIVE RENT FREE IN YOUR SENIOR YEARS. Yes, many people don't make intelligent geographic decisions and do get stuck in high RE tax states (NJ) but the flight to FL and NV was a response by many of the elderly to escape high tax states and I'm sure that, despite whether or not they have lost money i their retirement home, they are very, very happy in those places. paying no state income taxes and having low property taxes.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 16, 2009 11:09 AM
congrats, dirty hipster. with a user name like that, I'd assume you were on a Mac; call it social profiling. Macs are FAR superior, computers with an excellent OS.
Macs do not come with the Microsoft Office suite, but from what I hear Google's free programs—that include Google Spreadsheet, are more than adequate.
I'd opt for the extended warranty and a laptop sleeve. Besides that, a Macbook is all set right out of the box.
Posted by: Fjorder at February 16, 2009 11:10 AM
Mac OSX comes with iTunes, iPhoto, GarageBand, etc. For spreadsheets from work you'll probably want to invest in a copy of Microsoft Office (Home/Student version should be plenty). If I were going to recommend anything, it would be AppleCare and maybe One-to-One training ($99/year for 1-hour class every week, if you want). Tekserve often runs free seminars, as does the Apple Store. Describe your needs to the salesperson, wherever you're buying, and ask their thoughts—both immediate and down the road.
Posted by: vinca at February 16, 2009 11:10 AM
The Microsoft suite of Excel, Word, etc. I can't remember if it came automatically when I bought mine.
And I never got a "play card" for the Mac equivalents of PC commands....like Ctrl-Alt-Del and even Refresh...someone had to tell me all of them.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've been reluctant to join the darkside, but I can no longer justify spending more money for an inferior product!
Posted by: dirty_hipster at February 16, 2009 11:23 AM
If you're spending more money on a PC than a Mac, you're getting a bad deal on the PC. You should be able to match any available Mac's specs, laptop or desktop, for less money.
Which is not to say that the Macs aren't worth it, though personally I find OSX overrated. To many bells and whistles, animations and such, that you have to turn off in order to move through it efficiently.
Posted by: cwbuecheler at February 16, 2009 11:26 AM
Dave, you can find keyboard shortcuts at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1343

Hiya Assheads! Remember when I said "Keep Ferking around"? Well I had a conversation with a Manhattan Broker and this person said "people are calling her because they want to leave Brooklyn". I was very surprised because I thought all the retards want to live here. The reason is Manhattan is cheap again with apartments offing 1 month of free rent and it's cheaper than Brooklyn. People are looking to move in the spring and are getting a head start now. So I will wave Buh Bye to the Asshat Exodus..
Ohh BTW Suck this one down. The New York Times is having problems and remember the Retards was saying "Publishing is strong in NY", I don' think so...
End Times
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200901/new-york-times
It’s certainly plausible. Earnings reports released by the New York Times Company in October indicate that drastic measures will have to be taken over the next five months or the paper will default on some $400million in debt. With more than $1billion in debt already on the books, only $46million in cash reserves as of October, and no clear way to tap into the capital markets (the company’s debt was recently reduced to junk status), the paper’s future doesn’t look good.
It just gets better....

Question for Dave: Since you enjoy ranting against welfare deadbeats, how do you feel about foreclosure relief? You're a paragon of civic and individual responsibility --I'm sure you're stoutly against it.
It's possible that as a senior you live "rent free," though if you bought a wildly inflated asset at maximum bubblehood, your opportunity cost vis-a-vis other possible vehicles for your saving may be so massive that renting would have made much more sense. (I defer to FinanceGuy, who can manage my money any day of the week.)

dirtyhipster, there is some validity to robs post in that if you spec out a pc with to match those of a mac, you end up paying quite a bit less...and this is coming from someone who owns both. macs are good machines, but you do indeed pay a premium. no need to attack rob.

No problem with relief for those that need it and can pay a restructured mortgage.
If you think that Manhattan is going to get cheaper than Brooklyn then you're a bigger fool than I thought.
Just because What says some asshat real estate broker (he was one too you know) says she's getting some inquiries from brooklyn about Manhattan doesn't mean the economics have turned topsy turvy.

It is SO sad that the What thinks that only now are people moving from Brooklyn to Manhattan.
Please let him think that this is purely a product of the imploding MAB and not a product of the hundreds of year old tradition of moving between boroughs.
PLEASE!
BTW, I found both of my sets of friends apartments in Park Slope this weekend. That's an additional 6 more residents of Brooklyn starting March 1.
I'm sure more than the number of people who called this alleged broker in Manhattan.

Geithner Pressed By G-7 to Move Faster on Bank Bailout
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aL7CTGCYZBOc&refer=home
The G-7 finance ministers and central bankers want Geithner, 47, to tackle a U.S. credit crisis that lies at the heart of the worst global recession since World War II. Bank stocks, as measured by the Standard & Poor’s 500 Financials Index, have fallen 30 percent this year and ended last week lower than before Geithner presented his rescue plan on Feb. 10.

Congratulations Rob what fun I'm so glad the meeting went well.
Re that Atlantic article, it is germane to the What's post today. Author Richard Florida is a bit of a one-trick pony; with the rise of Web 2.0 and the decline of traditional organizations such as the print media, some members of "the creative class" will be able to move to slightly less expensive creative centers such as Raleigh-Durham, Austin, Portland, upstate New York.
No, I don't think that will make New York a ghost town. I think it will relieve some of the pressure here. We're already seeing a slight decline in rents and purchase prices here. Good news for everyone except flippers.

I just got off the phone with a friend who lives in the East Village with 3 roommates and has been wanting to leave when their lease expires at the end of the month. I sent them a few listings last week in Carroll Gardens, Prospect Heights, Park Slope, and they looked at 4 places yesterday and have decided to take the one in the South Slope!!

What -
SoHo 2-bedrooms under $3200 is not cheaper than Brooklyn. You can get a 2BR, and probably much larger than the SoHo one, in prime Park Slope, for $2600 or less.
Also, I lived on the UES for three years. Yes, you can get cheap apartments up there, if you're willing to walk four or more avenue blocks to the subway each morning and evening. If you get anywhere near the Lex line, the average 1 BR is going to cost you a lot more than $1600, even now.
Neither of your examples are cheaper than comparable Brooklyn areas. Try again.

Friday night I was out with co-workers. One of them just moved to a pre-war building on Lex in the low 60s.
He rented a 1br for $1650.
The rent had been reduced from the previous tenants, who were paying $1950.
Just anecdotal evidence, your mileage may vary.

What -
No, the burden of proof is on the guy making the statements. YOU go search craigslist, and get back to me.
Why is it funny that I moved and then complain about the neighborhood? I moved because I didn't like the neighborhood, so obviously I would say it wasn't that great. It was crowded, the commute was obnoxious, and I far prefer Brooklyn's lower skyline.
I paid $1400 for a studio and $3100 for a big (for the UES) 2 BR a short walk from an express stop, when I lived there. I pay $2600 to live in a much larger 2 BR in Park Slope ... and I didn't even get a particularly good deal on my current place. So Brooklyn's certainly been cheaper for me.
Snark -
Evidence noted. Either he got a good deal, or it's a very small place. Either way, $1650 isn't bad for that area (the low 60s are nicer than the high 80s where I lived, too).

any landlords in here have the experience of being audited by the IRS? $1600 for a 1-bedroom in Manhattan isn't bad. Many one-bedroom co-ops in brooklyn charge half of that in maintenance, of course the latter is partilly tax-deductible. But still...
I went to a few open houses this weekend in our lovely Boro.
It was pretty grim. I chatted up a couple of realtor friends and nothing is moving. Not houses, not condos, not co-ops. They all were putting the best face on it, but with so many people afraid that they may be losing their jobs in the near future, there do not seem to be too many optimistic buyers ready to plunge into the frigid waters of NYC real estate right now. No one is even bidding. Let's look forward to a spring thaw. Maybe, hopefully, it will come.

My my, at waterloo the Asshats did surrender
Oh yeah, and I have met my destiny in quite a similar way
The history book on the shelf
Is always repeating itself
Waterloo - I was defeated, you won the war
Waterloo - promise to love you for ever more
Waterloo - couldnt escape if I wanted to
Waterloo - knowing my fate is to be with you
Waterloo - finally facing my waterloo
My my, I tried to hold you back but you were stronger
Oh yeah, and now it seems my only chance is giving up the fight
And how could I ever refuse
I feel like I win when I lose
Waterloo - I was defeated, you won the war
Waterloo - promise to love you for ever more
Waterloo - couldnt escape if I wanted to
Waterloo - knowing my fate is to be with you

DIBS - Oh, sure. And if it wasn't president's day and there were other topics being posted, I wouldn't even be engaging in the dicussion. I'm just bored. :)
Frankly, I don't really care which borough costs more. I care which one I want to live in more, and there are at least five Brooklyn neighborhoods I'd prefer to anywhere in Manhattan.

DH: This is a stretch re: your earlier question, but depending on your rental the
W9 might come into play re: interest paid on landlord's bank account for security deposits and due to you, or separately, if you happen to be living in Section 8 housing (as many Roosevelt Islanders suddenly find themselves). Ask your landlord for a copy of his audit notice and a letter from his accountant stating the reasons why you’re involved in your landlord’s audit.
What—your posts are tired retreads of Stephen Potter’s “Gamesmanship” made all the more bizarre by your claim that your posts are being selectively blocked and edited. It’s nothing short of delusional to believe you’re being watched that closely. No healthy human being is mesmerized by your world of hurt and your treble and terrible addictions to conflict, malice and vitriol.

Im a poser? i grew up in Coney Island BK.surrounded by public housing. where did u grow up? anytown usa? aka whiteville?
Posted by: buckfast at February 16, 2009 2:24 PM
Thanks vinca! that does make sense. Having worked in auditing before, I'm surprised the auditors would bother with the negligible amount of interest my deposit has accumulated, but I guess if you have enough 1,000 dollar deposits in an account it starts to add up!
Posted by: dirty_hipster at February 16, 2009 2:31 PM
So, having grown up in public housing in Coney Island, tell us ... are you really hoping to have Brooklyn go back to being full of rampant crime, drug abuse, and violence? That's really what you want? For yourself and your family, your kids if you have or hope to have them, to have to grow up in that kind of environment? That appeals to you?
I don't quite understand why anyone would wish for those "good old days" to come back.

Then why are you responding to me? If people hate me so much then what to they respond to my posts???!!
"It’s nothing short of delusional to believe you’re being watched that closely. "
I use curse words! The reason why I haven't gone off because Word press monitors my IP Address. When I make a post it flags for certain words and will not make the post if it comes across dirty words also if I post multiple URL's it will flag the post too. Now I can break it but, I don't want to. You see 2009 is very bad and I don't have to rant much further. People are losing their jobs, the economy is in the toilet right now, Real Estate is dead and the reality is hitting home. So Vinca you got a response from be and it will be the last. Can't imagine why landlords would want income information from a renter UNLESS the apartment is rent stabilized. When the total income goes over a certain amount, the apt becomes destabilized. (Under the old rent decontrol rule, that is, which was recently suspended.)

"it never effected my quality of life." and "when trouble found me,i would fight and fight hard." are diametrically opposing statements.
If trouble is finding you, and you're having to fight, your quality of life is inherently not as high as it is for those for whom that is not the case.
Far as personal freedom goes ... yes, fair enough. NYC's a bit of a police state these days. Then again, you can walk down the street at night without having to look over your shoulder most of the time.

What, the sad thing is that if people responded to your posts with warmth, you wouldn’t even notice they were there, or that they’d responded. The only time you recognize you’re being paid attention to is when you’re getting negative attention. The world is filled with people who *could* do something differently but, like you, just don’t want to. What you write, what you say, what you do—that’s your choice, and no one else’s. You want to live in this generation in the same way, and inflicting the same pain, as the generation that brought you into this world, I’d say that’s an unfortunate choice. As to "suck me off"—here’s the kindest thing we say in the very Brooklyn neighborhood where I grew up: “You couldn’t come if I called you.” You see, What, I’m just as capable of you of spewing venom, but I choose not to, even when that choice takes a lot of effort. I rarely resort to song lyrics, but this one’s for you and buckfast (and hannible, too):
The Pointer Sisters, Yes We Can Can
Now's the time for all good men
to get together with one another.
We got to iron out our problems
and iron out our quarrels
and try to live as brothers.
And try to find a piece of land
without stepping on one another.
And do respect the women of the world.
Remember you all have mothers.
We got to make this land a better land
than the world in which we live.
And we got to help each man be a better man
with the kindness that we give.
I know we can make it.
I know darn well we can work it out.
Oh yes we can, I know we can can
Yes we can can, why can't we?
If we wanna get together we can work it out.
And we gotta take care of all the children,
the little children of the world.
'cause they're our strongest hope for the future,
the little bitty boys and girls.
We got to make this land a better land
than the world in which we live.
And we got to help each man be a better man
with the kindness that we give.
I know we can make it.
I know darn well we can work it out.
Oh yes we can, I know we can can
yes we can can, why can't we?
If we wanna, yes we can can.

Sure, you have to be aware of your surroundings in any urban or semi-urban area, anywhere in the world. New York's hardly the only place that can be dangerous. That doesn't mean that it's desirable to live like that.
Whether you minded it or not, being in fights from time to time is a definite negative of any kind of "quality of life" scale. It's demonstrably the truth that reducing quality-of-life crimes -- petty theft, panhandling, petty violence ... even things like jaywalking -- has an overall positive impact in urban neighborhoods on everything from property values, to school graduation rates.
What have we given up to get New York where it is? I don't know - I wasn't here in the 70s. The personal freedoms I enjoyed when I was here in the early 90s aren't any different than the personal freedoms I enjoy now: I can go to restaurants, bars, movie theaters, drama theaters, musicals, parks, museums, historic and architectural tours, and all of the other great things that the city offers.
Same stuff as I could do then, except now I don't have people getting up in my face and asking me if I want to buy drugs every ten friggin feet like I did back then. I don't miss that. Was that worth me giving up the "personal freedom" to spraypaint on subway trains, smoke crack, and kick the shit out of someone whose face I didn't like?
Yeh, probably.

Good morning everyone! It's 5.30 AM here in Mito City,Japan. I had about 5 hours of sleep last night, which is not too bad for the second day in Japan. I am getting too old to be a road warrior - my body can't take it any more. Considering the economy, however, I guess I'll have to keep on doing it.
Buckfast: I'd like to ask you a question. In a previous thread, you stated that you grew up on Ave Z, near the Coney Island Yards. I know this area well, as I grew up not too far away. Ave Z is not in Coney Island, it's in Gravesend, and it is not surrounded by the housing projects. The housing projects are well on the other side of the belt parkway and further to the west. What the heck are you talking about?
Posted by: benson at February 16, 2009 3:39 PM
Well, it seems lots of people get tickets for drinking on the stoop. Sorry that your sense of entitlement makes you believe you should be immune from that.
As far as you getting frisked by the police, when was the last time that happened and where were you, what were you doing? Let us know when it happens again.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 16, 2009 3:42 PM
gravesend is pretty pricey now. A lot of tear-downs and big McMansions being built on smallish lots. Definitely not poverty-stricken.
Posted by: sam at February 16, 2009 3:45 PM
benson...whenever I arrive in Japan I shower go out to dinner and stay up as late as possible, drinking. I usually wind up sleeping through the nite. It's when I come back this way that I oftentimes have more problems.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 16, 2009 3:47 PM
benson, what kind of new gadgets are you finding in your hotel room? Do the lights dim when you touch the walls? does white noise turn on when you use the toilet?
Posted by: sam at February 16, 2009 3:52 PM
DIBS;
Same exact situation for me. I go out with the Japanese colleagues for dinner and then the requisite karaoke bar. Get in to bed at 11 PM and will get 4-5 hours of sleep, which is enough to get me through the day. Coming back, however, I find that it sometimes takes me at least a week to get my system back in order.
I've noticed something interesting here. Prior to the election, the Japanese were generally pro-Obama. They seem to have soured on him quickly- they don't like the stimulus bill.

Sam;
Have you ever seen a toilet in Japan? It's unbelievable - more controls than a 747 jet. They can do it all for you: wash your tush, air dry it - the works!
I think that one area where Japan is well ahead of the US is in mobile wireless entertainment. When you take the train in Japan, everybody is watching a video on their mobile wireless phone or device. Given how crowded their trains are, it's the only thing they can really do.
Posted by: benson at February 16, 2009 3:57 PM
benson....i think there's a misperception globally as to the t\"teeth" of the "buy American" crap portion of the bill. Additionally, Japan itself is doing very little. China is doing the most.
There is a sense around the world that the problems with the financial assets started in London & the US...which of course is correct.
Also, the Japanese investor, many of whom invest overseas, have been hurt by the US market but they have benefitted from the weakness of the US dollar. Once the Yen starts weakening they will really get their lunch handed to them.
What's on TV??? Some inane cooking show where everyone agrees how good everything is? Hard Gay??? or the Japanese equivalent of WWE/WWF?

benson, the last time I was in Japan, cell phones were the size of men's dress shoes. But even then the bathroom fixtures were unusually complicated and the shower in one of the hotels I stayed looked like the transformation chamber in "The Fly".
Are cigarettes still cheap?
They used to be so cheap and every single person smoked. I have never seen so many smokers, more than in France, or Spain or even Italy!

Posted by: sam at February 16, 2009 4:08 PM
Sorry...typed faster than I was thinking....the US dollar's weakness has hurt the Japanese investors on top of the weakness in the price of the underlying assets (stocks). So they've gotten a double whammy.
The Yen should start to weaken soon if just a technical reversal. That'll make their foreign assets go up in value.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 16, 2009 4:08 PM

Your story still doesn't ring true to me. In the previous thread you said that you grew up on Ave Z. People don't refer to the place that they moved into when they were 15 as the place they grew up in. Also, I am curious that you just refer to the location as Ave. Z. Ave. Z in Gravesend consists of a single large housing complex managed by a famous NY real estate family. Buckfast: what is the name of that housing complex on Ave. Z, and who manages it?

Sam;
Yup, everybody still smokes, and the smokes are cheap. One thing they have cracked down on is the cigarette vending machines. Previously anyone, including children, could buy cigarettes from them. Now it requires a type of "EZ Smoke" card that is only issued to adults.
DIBS;
I work for a large Japanese manufacturing company. What's got them in a snit is the appreciation of the Yen, which has made it hard for us to compete in the US market. Prior to coming to Japan, I had to stop in at a customer in California, and announce that we were raising our prices. Let me tell you: informing a customer that you are raising prices in the middle of a deep recession is not a way to make friends!! Needless to say, they didn;t join me for lunch.
ENY;
Of course it's not a good thing. The Japanese are really into mindless entertainment, perhaps more than Americans. The really incredible thing to me is the popularity of "cartoon porn", which men read openly on the train right next to young girls.
Gotta go for more meetings !

stop being so nieve dave, there were no perps."U MATCH THE DESCRIPTION" is some bs the cops always say after searching u. and as for benson, indeed u r correct about there not being any PJs at aveZ.im glad someones else on here knows something about brooklyn south besides me.but im still not sure about it technically being Gravesend.growing up there we always thought of it as CI.since its right between the train yard and coney isalnd hospital.
Posted by: buckfast at February 16, 2009 4:30 PM
Yes, benson, the strength of the Yen is really hurting the Japanese companies. We are betting that it turns soon.
Ojisan (old men) reading cartoon porn is really funny. You'd be surprised how much of it is really out there!!!!!
At least there are great "host" and "hostess" bars throughout Shinjuku. Tokyo never had a Guiliani!!!!
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 16, 2009 4:32 PM
Nope...I was traveling to China for a Yangtze River cruise...back in my days as a travel journalist. I remember talking with a PLASTERED Japanese businessman in the airport "smoking room." Just then a friend of mine from California up and walked into the room! We were both like, "What are you doing here?!?"
Posted by: East New York at February 16, 2009 4:35 PM
Who's being naive? If you're coming out of a PJ that has a certain amount of crime going on within it then what do you expect???? I'm assuming that you are white because you stated above that you have a lot of black friends, correct?
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 16, 2009 4:36 PM
no benson.its not all one comlex.my building on W3rd st and ave Z didnt have a name as far as i can remember.and we sure as hell didnt know who owned it.maybe ur refering to the buildings on W2nd.they were alot nicer.
Posted by: buckfast at February 16, 2009 4:43 PM
I have to say I have zero interest in alleged police brutality in Gravesend.
So I'm changing the subject:
Evidently two nuclear armed submarines, one French the other British, "accidentally" collided in the middle of the infinite expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. Can anyone tell me what these two nuclear subs were doing so near each other in the middle of the ocean? Will we ever know? I think it is the weirdest news item of the week.
Posted by: sam at February 16, 2009 4:47 PM
yes dave u r correct.im a the son of Ukrainian immigrants.but i dont care how much crime goes on there.we did nothing wrong,so why should we be forced up against the wall at gun point.
Posted by: buckfast at February 16, 2009 4:48 PM
sam - hunting for Red October?
Posted by: cwbuecheler at February 16, 2009 4:50 PM
And were the two cops both black???
sam...the French are still upset they've never won a any battle, let alone a naval battle against the British.
I hadn't seen that story. Very bizarre.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 16, 2009 4:54 PM
hunting for something, they were both smashed up pretty good. Somehow they didn't sink with theit nuclear warheads or, oopsie!, let one rip in the direction of Wall Street, but there must have been something there. It took the French sub three days to limp back to harbor, it must have been way way out there.
Posted by: sam at February 16, 2009 4:57 PM
no they were white
Posted by: buckfast at February 16, 2009 4:57 PM
Third world countries shouldn't have nuclear weapons!!! :)
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at February 16, 2009 5:03 PM
DIBS - I'm sure MrsCWB would take offense to that! :)
Also, I don't think cops profiling people and being abusive jerks - in this city or in any other - is a particularly huge newsflash
Posted by: cwbuecheler at February 16, 2009 5:06 PM
Especially if those people are coming out of a PJ where there was probably a crime. If there was no "roughing up" or other brutality then let it go.
My apologies to MrsCWB. C'est la vie. Good thing Pierre de taille isn't here today. However, you assumed I was referring to france and not our closer allies GB. Classic inferiority complex :) :) :)
Sorry about the roguefort thing. We're all losers there.

Buckfast;
It is a single complex. The name of it is Shorehaven (as the signs there say all over the place), and it is managed by the Trump family (not Donald Trump, but his father's organization, Fred Trump).
Posted by: benson at February 16, 2009 5:17 PM
never heard that before benson.and never saw the big signs which u speak of.and i lived there for 6 years
Posted by: buckfast at February 16, 2009 5:25 PM
Buckfast;
Correction: they are called Beach Haven apartments. Shorehaven is further along the belt parkway:

How can you not have heard of this name? Google "Beach Haven Apartments", and see what you find. I don't believe that you lived there, and I don't believe that you lived in the CI projects.

Fred Trump! Ha!
People I know in Bay Ridge knew him, evidently he was nothing like the Donald.
Well, I am off to make dinner now.
Benson, I bought (without bank financing) a pair of Kobe Steaks (admiteddly from Texas, I think) and a bottle of a very promising sirah from Napa.
Toasting the Presidents and the wonderful day off they have made possible. g'night all.

Posted by: buckfast at February 16, 2009 6:29 PM
i thought u said u knew about the area benson.its absolutely not the same complex."beach haven" or what ever ur calling it,im pretty sure are the buildings closer to Ocean pkwy.i've bin to those buildings and they were much nicer inside than my building.if u were ever there,u would know that.

You all attack What because he cannot prove that Brooklyn RE is crashing. Indeed, sellers insist on high pricing perhaps 20-25% off the peak of the bubble pricing. In this sense Brooklyn has hardly crashed.
HOWEVER, when one decides to buy needs to make an educated guess for what the prices will be in the future. Unless one is a fool, one cannot ignore what's happening to the US and in particular to NYC economy. One cannot ignore that there was a RE bubble. Brooklyn RE has not crashed but it will soon.
You can bring up any craigslist or RE ad. It does not mater what happens now but what will happen in the next couple of years. If you would like to argue bring YOUR relevant data. And the burden of proof is YOURS. Not What. Most economists say we are in the worst recession since the 30s depression. YOU need to argue against them.
