I told my colleagues that if I'm late for work its because I've assaulted an MTA employee. The jackass conductor theis morning on thje A train waits until it fills up and then tells everyone that there are more trains behind us and that this one will run "Local."
Why can't these idiots figure out that when the trains are backed up you run one even "more" express, like from my stop at utica express to Broadway nassua, which would make a lot more since since there are very fewer people that get off in between. And then the other trains behind us can "catch up" and normalize the waits. That's the way the CTA always did it in Chicago.
They are just such idiots.
And while I'm on the subject, lets get some wage concessions out of MTA employees instead of a $3.00 fare.
Unions are the epitome of incompetence.

Yeah the random spacing and management of trains on the A is a mystery. Unlike other lines which tend to have a preety reliable avergae, riding the A at the same time every day you seem to either get a train that's packed to the ceiling or you might get a seat. And then there's the seemingly the random sequencing on C's and A's. Overall the system is backsliding. Trains are often filthy these days, e.g. dried vomit. Unions and NY politics...yes...also simple bad management.

Yes, jawbreaker, the ineptitude at the top is atrocious.
On another, union related note, I see that the UAW has put an end to the "jobs bank" for GM and Chrysler. The jobs bank pays the union members after they get laid off. They will now have to go on state unemployment.

spare me your early morning anti-union anti-worker drivel.
Surprised you aren't blaming the weather on them too.
Amazing how you know-it-alls seem to be experts on any subject/topic out there even when you have no experience and knowledge on a topic. Just spout out tirades and the world would be perfect if everyone were like you.
(no offense, I have plenty of friends and family who do the same thing).

I love that photo.

Thanks for adding something to the discussion Pete, especially since you believe that you actually have the right answers. We are all at a loss because you haven't told us what the reality truly is.
I'm glad that you know more about my experience and knowledge on the topic than I myself. And your experience and knowledge????

I dunno, pete'b. It is a blog and while certainly would never label my golden words of wisdom "drivel" I have to say there's a lot posted on brownstoner that comes from people who really do know what they're talking about and its very interesting.
The trade unions are going to have to be part of the recovery process. Everyone is suffering, 100's of thousands have lost jobs. The unions may be required to give back and lose benefits or lower hourly rates. Some of their rules will have to change. telling the governemnt that the UAW will make no compromises, as they did last year, is tone deaf and foolish.

mta sucks, but i think they should somehow curve these report cards to clarify which are the least awful and the most awful. i think the A is one of the worst, and the 2/3 is almost remotely reliable and i wouldn't consider one of the worst, so i dont see how they could get the same grade.
Posted by: nataliep at January 28, 2009 10:13 AM
I actually believe that the A is a pretty good line.
I can't believe though that they cut the express service on the weekend. This is the train that takes people to & from JFK for god's sake. Get a clue, MTA.

Did anyone see the article in the NY Times City room about Light Rail possibilities? I think it would be a great solution.
Posted by: bxgrl at January 28, 2009 10:32 AM
Yeah, bxgrl. And the 2nd Ave Subway is coming soon to a stop near you.
We're from the government and we're here to help you.
No I won't.....never mind.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 28, 2009 10:33 AM
discussions about the 2nd Ave. subway line tend to piss me off. How about a few more lines in the Bronx or Queens or Brooklyn. Light rail- no carving your way though bedrock (expensive). Just one reason why fares will go up- so the Manhattanites won't have to walk so far to a subway stop.
Posted by: bxgrl at January 28, 2009 10:38 AM
MTA is bogus, but not because of the conductors. Get a clue folks, something is terribly wrong at the top.
Posted by: werner at January 28, 2009 10:59 AM
the A train is mad ghetto. most of the express trains ive noticed are terribly ghetto.
*r*

rob- can you please just shut up? Or think before you post? You sound like a 5 year old trying out dirty words.
Posted by: bxgrl at January 28, 2009 11:13 AM
LOL...Does that mean it gets slightly "less ghetto" once I step on at Utica Ave??? LOL
rob...I hope the What doesn't call you out on this one, for your sake.

My teenage nieces can't say a single word without prefacing it with "mad". I told them I was mad mad about it and they needed to expand their vocabulary like mad.

"The jackass conductor theis morning on thje A train waits until it fills up and then tells everyone that there are more trains behind us and that this one will run 'Local.'"
They pulled the same sort of crap on me last week - the conductor waited until everyone boarded the #3 (local) train at Franklin, THEN told everyone the train would go express to Utica (by passing Kingston and Nostrand). This was post-work rush, and most of the folks on my car (including me) were planning to exit at Kingston or Nostrand. I gave the conductor an earful when I got off the train to go back to the stop be passed. I eeven calle him a "liar." He closed his window. That's about the only satisfaction I got.

If they had actually closed the doors I would have pulled the brake cord. These people are oftentimes brain dead.

"I told them I was mad mad about it and they needed to expand their vocabulary like mad."
Ha! Clearly, you did the right thing.
