what did i miss yesterday? anything? had a cold and nearly sliced my finger off this weekend :(

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at January 13, 2009 9:49 AM

Why were the two connected rob??

You only missed more of the Miss Chiff drama. I'ts getting old. BRG is under the illusion that she's gonna get some hot girl-on-girl action with Miss Chiff even though Miss Chiff is a guy; and a gay one at that!!!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 9:52 AM

so miss chiff was figured out?

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at January 13, 2009 9:53 AM

seeing as it is all the rage to have a second nom de plume, I hereby announce that I will henceforth be posting as "Anita Tuneup".

Posted by: sam at January 13, 2009 9:58 AM

Groan, sam.

Seriously, if you need a name pun fix, just listen to the last two minutes of Car Talk each week. This is starting to get tired.

Posted by: slopefarm at January 13, 2009 10:03 AM

Drag names are overrated sam.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 10:03 AM

oooooh do you know your drag name dave? (it's the name of your first pet and then the name of the first street you live on.) my drag name is Princess Bergenline.

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at January 13, 2009 10:06 AM

Rosie Greenberg for me.(I always did drag names as first pet and mother's maiden name)

My porn name is Todd Appletree...(middle name, plus street name)

Posted by: wasder at January 13, 2009 10:08 AM

My God. That would make me Cookie Driftwood. I love it.

Posted by: Nokilissa at January 13, 2009 10:11 AM

Hmmmm. You know Waz, that has a nice ring to it. How, by the way, is little Baby Wasder??

Posted by: Nokilissa at January 13, 2009 10:13 AM

LOL....Those combinations of names are enough for anyone to steal your identity by knowing the answer to all your "safe" questions!!!!!!!!

wasder...I'll be using your credit cards by this evening in some strip joint.

I have a great story about an ex-colleague of mine who's wife opened the credit card bill once and asked "What's Flashdancers??"

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 10:15 AM

so my porn name then is william (or willy or will or billy or bill) bergenline?

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at January 13, 2009 10:17 AM

Noklissa--Baby is doing great. Totally mellow one. DOn't know if it is her natural disposition or our greater ease as parents but she hardly cries and sleeps a lot so we are very happy with her.

DIBS--I'll come after you....

Posted by: wasder at January 13, 2009 10:18 AM

first pet and mother's maiden name:

8-Ball Christensen

Posted by: bowl of dicks at January 13, 2009 10:19 AM

Ah yes. Honey... THAT is a little not for profit group started by my friend's daughter... she's 15, and a dancer at school, and she noticed... Ah.... that the MOVIE Flashdance still had this, well, this huge following of devotees amongst tweens today. So, ah, she thought it would be fun to start an after school dancing program for kids at risk... and the $2,300 charge you see is seed money...

Posted by: Nokilissa at January 13, 2009 10:19 AM

Do you take directionals out of the street name?

Posted by: slopefarm at January 13, 2009 10:20 AM

Don't worry wasder. The chances of me going to a strip club tonight are practically nil. Now if you see a charge on there for $3,500 worth of white truffles, that's another story.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 10:22 AM

what kind of pet was 8 ball?

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at January 13, 2009 10:22 AM

The 8 Ball Lounge was the gay bar in Albany many years ago.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 10:24 AM

Wonderful!

Our second slept like a rock star for the first 3 months, then, poof! It was all gone, baby gone. Sigh. I was just thinking this morning, after being up at 2am and again at 4am how much I needed a vacation just for sleep. Nothing romantic, no need for fabulous wines and food. Just a really. Nice. Mattress. And 24/7 grandparents in a second bungalow.

Posted by: Nokilissa at January 13, 2009 10:24 AM

where's the pole? Pinky Ridge has her glass pumps on is ready to work.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 10:26 AM

my 'rents rescued a very old, gimpy, black Labrador. he had a round patch of white on his chest. we called him 8-ball because that's what he looked like. awwww

Posted by: bowl of dicks at January 13, 2009 10:28 AM

Three most common security questions for accessing your account information....

1. What is your mother's maiden name?
2. What was the name of your first pet?
3. What was the name of the street that you grew up on?

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 10:28 AM

I notice that a lot of you who post in the Open Thread never have anything to add to the serious homeowner questions in the Forum (except maybe wasder). Here's your chance. Please add whatever you can to the "Nitrogen Blanketing" topic. This is an important issue for homeowners and future homeowners.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 10:31 AM

DIBS...I just met the cutest Latino male!

While I don't do alot of design projects anymore...I have an office renovation that is starting construction in 3 weeks. I just met the super that will be on the job. Woooooowzer....I am going to love the weekly job site meetings. 12 weeks of construction bliss.
Do you want to come by the site and deliver some nails or screws?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 10:35 AM

Yes, yes, Dave, tis true. And I never EVER use my beloved first pet Cookie as a security answer, nor the first street I lived on. And frankly, though I'm forced to, I think mother's maiden is a seriously stupid security wall. Far too easy to access. I always use strange combos of capital letters, with numbers important to me for some reason, and dead pets no one would ever think of or know about. An old hermit crab when I was seven perhaps? Or my dead hamster Lucy? That kind of thing.

Posted by: Nokilissa at January 13, 2009 10:36 AM

That's why I'm not answering. It has nothing to do with shyness. Curious whether drag queens and porn actors have been disproportionately affected by ID theft.

Seriously, what if you were raised on a number street? Mittens North 11th, anyone?

Posted by: slopefarm at January 13, 2009 10:37 AM

BRG....I take back everything bad I've ever said about you if you can make that happen. I'll bring the coffee....he can deliver the nails and screws!!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 10:38 AM

Ha!

You're incorrigible BRG. He sounds delicious.

Off to find my 5 inch clear acrylic plastic platform pumps - I've got an S Factor class to hook into in ten minutes...

Posted by: Nokilissa at January 13, 2009 10:39 AM

Dave, you are a prudent person, never rule anything out catagorically. Hence, the chances of you going to strip club tonight are PRACTICALLY nil. there's always that chance twist of fate. Right?

Anita

Posted by: sam at January 13, 2009 10:55 AM

Nokki,

I worked for a company owned by a bank and for our passwords we had to do the following:

Exactly 8 characters
Combo of caps and lower case
Must include a symbol and a number.

Oh yeah and the kicker: They would expire every 3 weeks, you could NEVER use the same one twice and you had 11 different passwords you had to use. One for your blackberry, to get into the computer, to get past windows, for the different programs, etc.

It is SO secure that you could NEVER remember all of them. So everyone writes then down and keeps the list in their desk drawer. Talk about defeating the purpose.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 10:58 AM

THL...mine are all written on post-its here at my desk.

sam...if Henry or Peter happen to call and we go out tonight, chances are actually pretty high that we go to a strip club.

Anita Mann

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 11:03 AM

Or a Karaoke club...Look for a charge from Japas 38.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 11:10 AM

So I missed all the Slope/Montrose 15 minutes of fame yesterday? Montrose of course called me to make sure I did not miss the article (I got such a vivid picture of you, slopefarm- hay sprigs in your mouth and hair, check shirt and floppy overalls. Did I mention the pollen wafting through your sunbleached hair?)

Nokilissa- I have a wealth of dead (sob!) pets I use combined with odd numbers and other life strangenesses. Even the dead pet names are strange.

I never keep them on the computer- I have an address book I write them down in. Of course if that ever gets lost I'm toast.

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 11:10 AM

"chances are actually pretty high that we go to a strip club."
Head to the back room....you will be disgusted!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 11:11 AM

It would take an awful lot to disgust me BRG. Now what's cookin on that Latin Super??? I can already seee the name of the video..."Super Hot Super" "Latin Superman" "Super Cums A Knockin" Super Burrito, Super Chalupa,

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 11:15 AM

bx,

Thanks, but if you go back to the original afterparty thread in October, you will notice that Montrose's image of me was sadly out of date.

Posted by: slopefarm at January 13, 2009 11:18 AM

Dave:
Drop the chalupa!

Posted by: sam at January 13, 2009 11:20 AM

sam...one of my friends calls my mexican bf the "beefy chalupa"

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 11:23 AM

Weekly job site meetings on Tuesday's at 9:30am will start in 3 weeks.
There will be a weekly subcontractor meeting at 8:30am. DIBS, you might want to show up for those. There's nothing like burly men talking about heating, tin knocking, studs, roughing, spackling, flooring, etc.
I'll show up to those at the tail end of them, so they can catch me up and fill me in, before the official meeting with the client.
See you there!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 11:24 AM

Beefy Chalupa sounds quite similar to my own porn name.

Biff Champion

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 11:26 AM

And I was hoping the Porn Star wouldn't show up today!!!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 11:28 AM

my favorite ad animal of all time is the talking chihuahua who says "drop the chalupa!" I also liked it when they dressed him up like a mini-Che. Genius ads.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 11:44 AM

I'm in the middle of the Herculean task of reorganizing and purging the junk out of my work space, aka my basement. As some may know, I do soft furnishings, and in my murky past, I've been in the fashion industry and related fields. Long story short, I never met a piece of fabric that I couldn't hold on to. Not just because I thought I'd use it, necessarily, but because I knew SOMEBODY in this wide world could.

I gotta get rid of some of this stuff. I tried Craigslist, and offered it to people for free, but that turned into a real pain, as people were coming and going, getting picky about the freebees, and it was consuming my life.

I have mostly small remnants of half to a full yard, and a few larger pieces, in all kinds of patterns, weaves, fabrics and colors. I want to DONATE it to a school, overseas program, senior activity center, whatever, but I want it to go to people who will really use it. Whether costumes, quilts, children's clothes, patchwork crafts, pillows, whatever. I'd love it to go to Haiti, or a senior activity center, for example.

I did some research, but had no luck finding what I was looking for, and I admit, I don't have time to make this my number one priority. I also don't want to have to pay to ship it. Pick up is a must. If anyone can connect me to an appropriate organization or person, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for letting me interrupt the frivolity.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 11:57 AM

To Montrose Morris -- you can probably donate to Baltic Bazaar, a fabric store/second hand clothing boutique on Atlantic Ave between Henry and Hicks, on the north side of the street. Ask for Dan. They can then sell it for a (501c3) charitable purpose in their store.

If not, or as an alternative, try calling local public elementary schools, like PS 8 (718) 834-6740, PS 261, PS 58, etc., and see if the art teachers would like a donation. And last, how about Pratt students?

It's VERY hard for me to give up anything, so donating to something or someone meaningful to me always eases the pain.

Posted by: bklyn20 at January 13, 2009 12:00 PM

I've seen Biff and in no way can he compare in the looks or physique department to Fulge, my "beefy chalupa"

Sorry Biff. I'm sure you're relieved actually. LOL

Spam le champignon?

BTW- where is La boef?

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 12:03 PM

Montrose,
If you don't mind it going to an art program for Palestinian refuge kids, I'll email you some info.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 12:03 PM

I bring my stuff to the Salvation Army on Atlantic near bergen or baltic bazaar on Atlantic near Henry.
If you have a lot of (good) stuff, the SA will arrange a pick up.

Posted by: sam at January 13, 2009 12:12 PM

I too have seen Biff and in every way he compares in the looks and physique department to Sludge, my "Wishbone Leftover"

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 12:14 PM

Montrose Morris,

You might look into Materials for the Arts:

I used them to find materials for set design when I was doing work with a non-profit theater company.

Posted by: SnarkSlope at January 13, 2009 12:15 PM

Thanks for the suggestions. Snark, I love Materials for the Arts, and have donated to them in the past. The only problem is that they don't take fabric pieces smaller than 3 yards, which constitutes most of my offerings.

BRG, my giving is non-sectarian, with the execption of Hitler Youth and KKKKids. (hopefully, there is no such group) Palestinian kids certainly have many, many needs, peace being the main one. Hope to hear from you.

I'll follow up on the other suggestions, too. Thanks.

Posted by: Montrose Morris at January 13, 2009 12:23 PM

MM, do you know someone that could create new covers to replace my old sofa cushion covers, and the main cover?

I also need the person to advise me on what kind of fabric to use and where to get it. The old fabric is a heavy cotton - sort of off-white. I think I want white cotton canvas or maybe an off-white - not khaki. The covers don't need any fancy trim or piping. And I have the old grungy covers here - could they be used for templates?

Posted by: cobblehiller at January 13, 2009 12:28 PM

> "Materials for the Arts... they don't take fabric pieces smaller than 3 yards"

Ah, that's too bad. I love that place. Going in there was like a visit to Candyland. We found a ton of stuff to use in our production.

Posted by: SnarkSlope at January 13, 2009 12:33 PM

I've got art supplies I can also donate, BRG. And if you can give me more of an idea of what they heed, I have a lot of people I can ask, including a friend who has a store in Manhattan.

also- the Henry St. Settlement has a workshop program to show people how to make things for their homes themselves- do a lot with the chinese community- so if anyone has things that might be useful, go to their website and look up the home care program. (they were almost shut down for lack of funds so I'm sure they could use some donations.)

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 12:34 PM

"Ah, that's too bad. I love that place. Going in there was like a visit to Candyland. We found a ton of stuff to use in our production."

Aaah, Snark, you really are gay :-(

MM - I sent you an email with the info.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 12:36 PM

snarkslope- I used to donate a ton of stuff to them- its a great organization. do they still run Pencil? the program for materials to public schools? Or did that fold into MFTA?

Posted by: cobblehiller at January 13, 2009 12:54 PM

BRG, she'd weeding through her own pile of crusty art supplies. I'm taking a break to hang out here on Brownstoner, when I should be hauling fabric. Back to the salt mines.

Got your info, thanks.

Posted by: Montrose Morris at January 13, 2009 12:54 PM

Crusty is the operative word! I never found an art material I didn't like. Or crusty threads for that matter- but mine are older than MM's- I used to restore antique clothing for al iving (among so many other things) and have collections of fabulous laces and textiles. (but between us, the crusty evil LL made me think about shoveling snow again -although it never happened the stress to my delicate sensibilities...)

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 1:08 PM

Renters should understand that shoveling snow builds character as well as muscles.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 1:10 PM

BRG, did you take my advice and enter a sell stop order on your Citi shares when you were way up?

Posted by: Biff Champion at January 13, 2009 1:18 PM

Landlords should understand that their renters are not there for their servitude, to build the over-inflated ego of the slumlord!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 1:18 PM

Slumlord??? There will never be a movie made that wins all the Golden Globe awards titled "Renter Millionaire"

No idea. It's been a few years since my last visit to MFTA.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 1:29 PM

DIBS, I'll take Freida Pinto. She's drop dead gorgeous. By the way, it's great the movie is getting so much recognition (you may remember me stating here last week that it was my favorite movie of 2008...do I know how to pick 'em or what?)

BRG, good call. I think you should buy me lunch for my sage advice.

Yes, and he also likes a medium Asian and a large Spaniard.

Posted by: Biff Champion at January 13, 2009 1:34 PM

Thank you BRG! (Hmmpf- you can tell what sort of LL DIBS is. )

excuse me now- I mist go do the LL's laundry, then it's cooking and cleaning and then ironing the LL's shirts....sigh...a servant's work is never done. (yo oh eee oh! Oh yo ohh eee oh)

Lunch is on me...What do you like to eat?
Would you like dessert also, perhaps a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream and choco. sauce.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 1:43 PM

You must have had a 'Good Morning'

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 1:53 PM

BRG, I don't know what's more frightening: that bollywood clip or the comments posted below it! Holy Jihad, Batman!

I actually loved the music in Slumdog Millionaire and keep forgetting to download it. So glad the film won best score. BRG, can I present you with an award for Best Score?

Posted by: Biff Champion at January 13, 2009 1:56 PM

Sorry, sorry. Been in a meeting with some Japanese stockbrokers.

Snark...I actually don't know enough about it. And you know me, I'd never, ever comment on anything I didn't know that much about.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 2:23 PM

If you think the clip is frightening than it was lost on you.
I guess you really have to know the differences (and there are many) in Indian music to understand it...it was funny as hell.
Youtube is notorious for bringing out very zealous religious people. That clip had nothing to do with religion but yet, some of the comments are so over the top. I tend to disregard the comments and rarely read them.

'BRG, can I present you with an award for Best Score?'

I'd rather have an reward for best original screenplay.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 2:28 PM

should be...

I'd rather have an AWARD for best original screenplay.

Truth be told, I hadn't watched the clip at that point; I just wanted to throw out that line in all it's fresh corniness. The clip was certainly entertaining. Hopefully as entertaining as the correspondance I've been catching up on this afternoon.

Yes, DIBS I do

One is 16 going on 17...

Fellows will fall in line
Eager old lads
And roués and cads
Will offer him food and wine

Totally unprepared is he
To face a world of men
Timid and shy and scared is he
Of things beyond his ken

He needs someone
Older and wiser
Telling him what to do
I am 150 going on horny
I'll take care of him

He 16 going on 17
he knows that he's naive
Fellows he meets may tell him he's sweet
And willingly he believes

He is 16 going on 17 innocent as a rose
Bachelor dandies
Drinkers of brandies
(Eaters of Truffles)
What does he know of those?

Totally unprepared is he
To face a world of men

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 3:07 PM

16 going on 17 is jail bait and you are an accomplice, complicent in that crime. I don't even want to think about this anymore. I may be hated here, a pervert, etc but I'm not a pedophile.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 3:18 PM

Biff, yes your corniness is so refreshing!

I try to do all my correspondances in the morning. I compiled one this morning that got the better of me. It really was an effort. I couldn't help myself and had to unleash my tongue on the topic.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 3:19 PM

BRG, sounds like you had a hard time. Did everything finally come out in the manner you hoped?

Posted by: Biff Champion at January 13, 2009 3:30 PM

Not sure Biff, I haven't heard anything. I would have liked a response, even just a quick....It's done.

Maybe I'll send another quick email tomorrow morning and see if I can get satisfaction.

Thanks for asking.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 3:40 PM

That's unfortunate. I was able to complete something this morning that I had on my mind since last night. It was such a relief once it was finished. I have another report to send off this evening that I'm hoping is well-received.

Posted by: Biff Champion at January 13, 2009 3:45 PM

THL- Brilliant!! I loved it!! I'm a type freak- I must have close to 1000 font files. Chest hair is ok -It's back and neck and shoulder hair....ewwwww....

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 3:48 PM

Biff, Seeing your name at the end of that post.....
I didn't believe it was you. Are you actually doing some work?!?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 3:50 PM

Sorry bxgrl, but I think you have this coming to you:

She asks me why
I'm just a hairy guy
I'm hairy noon and night
Hair that's a fright
I'm hairy high and low
Don't ask me why
Don't know
It's not for lack of break
Like the Grateful Dead
Darling

Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my...

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!

Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short

Down to here
Down to there
Down to where
It stops by itself

They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
My toga made of blond
Brilliantined
Biblical hair

My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

"Chest hair is ok"

Bxgrl - chest hair is sexy!

THL - thanks for the link. If I want that look, I'll save my $22 and just go topless!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 3:55 PM

BRG- I loved, loved, loved the clip! I know next to nothing about Indian music- but the lady singing in the beginning was just wonderful and I did get what she was doing. Just wish I knew more about Indian music.
I was in a dollar store a couple of years ago and they had an Indian version of If I were a Rich Man from Fiddler on the Roof playing. Best rendition I eve heard!

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 3:56 PM

Bxgrl,

My mom always said, "Men don't go bald it just slides down the back".

Eww Indeed!

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 3:56 PM

BRG- I have tales to tell but can't do it on here, for sure! Maybe next get together. Yes- it can be. Except when your earrig gets..I'll stop here now:-)

Slopefarm- bless you. Still a great song! (I seem to remember humming this as I watched my sister get a bikini wax once).

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 4:02 PM

Hairy men are not for me.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 4:02 PM

omg, THL- ROTFLMAO

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 4:03 PM

"(I seem to remember humming this as I watched my sister get a bikini wax once)."

Bxgrl - TMI
And why were you watching?? And what kind of a bikini waxing?

Speaking of, if any men need a good waxing, I can highly recommend someone. She used to work in the west village in a spa that cateered to men.
Zip, Zip, Zip....ouch!!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 4:06 PM

I'm not talking Robin Williams-esque. Just a nice smattering in the front.

O.k. I'm stopping now.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 4:08 PM

THL - are we ever going to meet you?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 4:10 PM

I had to meet her for lunch and got there early so we were talking (she said it kept her mind off the pain. I still laugh over that) How many kinds of bikini waxing are there? The hot wax from the boiler, the Swedish hair ripper outer, the screams...

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 4:11 PM

My men don't need a waxing. They come that way naturally!!!

The thought of someone watching their sister get a bikini wax is just too much for me. I'm having to seriously reconsider going out to dinner tonight after that.

Jolie...anyone going to be there???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 4:11 PM

How do we get on these topics??

"How many kinds of bikini waxing are there?"
Depends how close they get.
And that's all I'm going to say.

Where's Biff to enlighten us about men's hairy backs and butts and hair overgrowing from ears and nostrils.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 4:17 PM

He's on the Coney Island porn site.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 4:20 PM

My twin sister- I also had to be in the labor room when she gave birth. Which was an incredible experience- even when she punched out her husband and bit me.

DIBS- I worked summers during college as a nurse's aide on a surgical ward at Montefiore Hospital. A bikini wax is nothing compared to some of the stuff I saw. Besides this should tell you something: Last year I made a collage for my sister that said, "I smile because you are my sister. I laugh because there is nothing you can do about it."

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 4:20 PM

LOL...Many years ago I had a Thai bf who said he's dump me if I ever had hair growing from my ears.

I guess this is what is meant by "brooklyn inside and out"

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 4:21 PM

Did anyone hear that nose hair clippers cause cancer? (thanks for small mercies BRG)

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 4:22 PM

Does your sister have a really bad landlord too?

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 4:22 PM

"He's on the Coney Island porn site."

He must be desperate...Coney Island is close to Bay Ridge. I can imagine what the women on that site look like.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 4:23 PM

Was there ever a freak show at Coney Island???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 4:24 PM

Has anybody tried threading?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 4:24 PM

Don't anyone even dignify that with an answer.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 4:25 PM

I wonder if Miss Chiff waxes?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 4:26 PM

Not Brooklyn Women, Belgium. Check out the closing bell.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 4:26 PM

There's been a fascinating series on Channel 13 on the history of India. It comes on Monday nights from 9-11. I've learned about places and events I had no idea about, and I consider myself decently well informed. I've always loved the enormous artistry of India, in architecture, fabrics, food, and culture. The video clip was really interesting from a musicologist's perspective. Since my original college plans were to be a musicologist, I enjoyed it on several levels. Thanks for the clip, THL.

Posted by: Montrose Morris at January 13, 2009 4:27 PM

MM BRG provided the clip ;)

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 4:29 PM

dibs- no, she has a co-op. But she likes my slumlord. thinks more people should be like her (grrrrrr).

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 4:31 PM

"Don't anyone even dignify that with an answer."
?????
DIBS...threading is a process of hair removal.
I truly don't know of any other meaning.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 4:32 PM

I must have been thinking of weaving then.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 4:34 PM

MM, if you're interested in South Asian literature, I run a mailing list devoted to same...
www.sasialit.org.

To ya'll password challenged people at the top of this thread, what you need is a piece of software called a 'password vault'. You put all your passwords in it and lock it up with a master pw that should be exactly what THL says, but not necessarily limited to eight characters, upper case, lower case, numerals, and punctuation.

The one i use is Acerose Password Vault, free for PC users at

India is very complex and it's history rich. I'm going to order the PBS series for myself and my father-in-law.
I love Indian fabrics and have quite a few of the very heavily beaded intricate 'crusty' silks. One day I'll get around do doing something with them.
Indian music is vast. The clip although a parody does distinguish between the differnt styles.

Montrose, you should watch some bollywood movies. Most are very corny, but I love the the singing, the dancing and the outfits. You should come to an Indian wedding.
Now that's fun!!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 4:50 PM

BRG...I had a great time in Mumbai and Goa about 10 years ago. It was a business trip as well. Stayed at the Taj in Mumbai and the Taj Exotica in Goa. I'm not a fan of curry but had a lot of other food to make up for it.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 13, 2009 4:56 PM

This thread is taking a nice turn. Denton, your website is a nice undertaking. BRG, I am a fan of Indian music of many kinds, but mostly classical, more south than north. Haven't seen any real Bollywood, only movies that reference it. What are the real classics of the genre, so I can add to my Netflix queue? I will be signing off here, but will check this thread tomorrow.

"THL - are we ever going to meet you?"

Probably not, I like the anonymity. If you want you can email me at townhouselady at yahoo dot com and I'll link you to my flickr pics if you want a visual of who you're talking to.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 5:01 PM

Mistress BRG: If I do anything, it would be considered manscaping. I say no more.

Posted by: Miss Chiff at January 13, 2009 5:04 PM

Any recommendations on what Bollywood movies might have the best dance sequences? I'm completely unfamiliar but from what I've been exposed to the dance aspect interests me a great deal.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 5:05 PM

Slope....I watch the movies when I'm around the in-laws. I don't know the classics and it'll behoof me to remember the names. (I have a very bad memory). But I'll ask them for a list of the classic movies and throw in some popular modern ones. Give me a couple of days to query them. Actually, give me till next week, I'll see them over the weekend, I'll ask them then.

THL - I'm not interested in spying on you through Flickr...I just think you're a hoot. Believe me I like the anonymity also. Beleive it or not, I'm a very shy person until I get to know people.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 5:13 PM

"I'll link you to my flickr pics if you want a visual of who you're talking to."

Why did that sound like a creepy come-on? No creepiness intended, promise!

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 5:14 PM

Oh, by the way...they NEVER kiss in bollywood movies!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 5:15 PM

LOl...did anyone check out the Undercover Part II about the Atlantic Center Target in links? what is wrong with them?

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 5:17 PM

While this is not a Bollywood movie, slopefarm, check out Monsoon Wedding. It's along the lines of Slumdog Millionaire in the sense it features an Indian cast (versus caste) and is mostly in English. I thought it was a wonderful film.

Posted by: Biff Champion at January 13, 2009 5:26 PM

The Namesake (also directed by Mira Nair, the Director of Monsoon Wedding) is good and features two stunningly beautiful women, Zuleikha Robinson and Tabu.

Posted by: Biff Champion at January 13, 2009 5:33 PM

THL...one phone call to family yeilds results.
They claim it's the most popular movie and it came out in the 90's. I remember seeing this one actually.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWVc8dfP7SI&feature=related

Watching the clip, I can honestly say, the dancing and costumes are very tame compared to what is portrayed now.
And the lead actor, forget his name due to my memory lapses, is wildly popular.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 5:42 PM

BRG, maybe you and Miss Chiff can work those moves on the bar at the next 'Stoner Fest. By the way, I asked in the past for recommendations for a good Indian restaurant in BH/CG/CH area - perhaps you know of one. I've tried a couple that are near me, which are adequate, but not outstanding. Indian food is my favorite.

Posted by: Biff Champion at January 13, 2009 5:54 PM

the most stunningly beautiful indian woman is:
Ashwara Rai (sp?)...and she's the most popular bollywood actress.
look her up Biff...and then fantasize.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 5:54 PM

BRG, it's Aishwarya Rai and yes, she is perhaps the most beautiful of them all. I know she tried to break into Hollywood films over the last few years, but the films didn't do that well unfortunately.

Posted by: Biff Champion at January 13, 2009 6:01 PM

That was awesome! Thanks BRG. Always been a big fan of dance. I was very excited when they did a Bollywood number on last season's So You Think You Can Dance. I'm looking for the clip now.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at January 13, 2009 6:04 PM

Sorry, I mispelled her name...Aishwarya Rai

http://www.aishwarya-rai.com/

Sorry, Biff. I can't recommend any. I don't go out for Indian...when I've had the best Indian home cooking, I know I'll be disappointed with any restaurant.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 6:05 PM

Then there's always the Love Guru with Mike Myers (another hilarious Canadian) for anyone who wants to hear the song 9 to 5 played on the sitar:

Believe me, one day I will.

Montrose, I once donated a box of fabric to FIT and they were very grateful. Don't know if they have pickup though.

Rob, we missed you. You missed a thread about how binge drinking is up in Park Slope.

Posted by: mopar at January 13, 2009 6:47 PM

wow- just awesome. I was totally blown away by both clips!

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 6:47 PM

Whoops, BRG, I apologize for giving THL credit for your clip. A thousand pardons!

I love Bollywood movies and music videos. Way back when, I had a 3 week job in London, and I discovered Indian music videos. I was hooked! Some of the most beautiful men and women I've ever seen were in those videos. I don't know why Westerners think they've got a lock on physical beauty, because the rest of the world is certainly equal to the task, if not better.

If I'm ever able to go to India, I hope I have the bucks, because I'll have to send a container back to the States full of furniture, fabrics, architectural salvage, and assorted household stuff. My list is pretty long of things I would love to have.

Posted by: Montrose Morris at January 13, 2009 6:52 PM

Biff: The only good Indian is home cooked Indian. My mother-in-law and sisters-in-law are the best cooks!

Indian in Brooklyn? You can try south Asian (pakistani) in Littel Pakistan on Coney Island Avenue. (Good Afghani there too.) Near Ditmas Ave.

In the city, there is a place on 22nd off Park that is good. Can't remember the name right now.

For those with Cablevision - Namaste America for a quick Bollywood fix. Channel 73, or there abouts, on weekends.

Posted by: Miss Chiff at January 13, 2009 7:13 PM

MM - no pardons required.
Believe it or not. We haven't been to India yet. Somehow traveling always is seems to to evade us. One day, I will get there and I too will be carting back a ship load full of exotic treasures.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 7:36 PM

Miss Chiff...why you little bit&h!!!

You don't think I know what your trying to do....Trying to incriminate me with your first and third lines!

Biff, it's 7:13pm, go home.
While I'm in my office away from home all alone working late ;-)

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 13, 2009 7:40 PM

everyone has their standards of beauty- they're all different, all wonderful. No one is better than another. I think every culture believes theirs is the most beautiful. the world has seen far too much xenophobia. Native Americans refer to themselves as "Human Beings" linguistically as opposed to others.

It's always wonderful to see when people and cultures create bridges with each other, and appreciate their differences instead of fearing them. Part of that is letting go of the "my way/culture/history/religion" is better than yours mindset we've lived with for so long. Who knows? Maybe there's hope for us all yet.

Posted by: bxgrl at January 13, 2009 7:43 PM

Mistress BRG: We have more in common than I want to admit.

Your husband is Indian?

Posted by: Miss Chiff at January 13, 2009 10:10 PM

Yes BRG...Miss Chiff knows a lot about Indian suncontinent food I believe. LOL
