just an FYI about this... if you ever plan to apply for any of the "affordable housing" options the city offers, and there are always quite a few, definitely join your communituy board because they get a 50 percent preferential pick! (it's always stated in fine print in all of the advertisements on the nyc gov website and when they advertise in newspapers!)

I think that preference must be for RESIDENTS of the CB area rather than CB members.

FWIW I briefly filled an interim position on my local CB and didn't apply for a full term because I became disenchanted with it, BUT I never heard of that kind of malfeasance.

rob, all residents of a community district receive the preference, not just the 50 members of the community board.

Being a CB member, I have NEVER heard of such hogwash.
