City Planning Reviews Gowanus Rezoning
The City Planning Commission held its hearing yesterday on the 3-acre rezoning of Gowanus to clear the way for Toll Brothers' proposed 460-unit development, reports The Real Deal; the developer expressed confidence in its ability to finance the project. Gowanus Lounge thinks it's a pipe dream in this environment. CPC will vote on February 17, followed by the City Council within 50 days.

I look forward to the inevitable: the rezoning passes, Toll Brothers digs a huge hole in the ground, then it sits there for a decade. :P

This is pure folly - Wholefoods couldnt clean up their lot on the Gowanus for a store - and these developers think they are going to be able to clean and insure lots for residential living?? Who would finance something like this - I mean its not 2007 anymore.
I do like the picture with the Water Taxi - opening the Gowanus up for water based transport is an avenue that should be explored.
