Carroll Gardens Atrocity Finally Gets Price Cut

cg-atrocity-front-0109.jpg cg-atrocity-side-0109.jpg
The Carroll Gardens Atrocity, what Pardon Me For Asking describes as the "poster child for what-not-to-do with a brownstone," has finally gotten a much needed price reduction after more than two years of languishing on the market. The upper duplex is now $1,295,000, down from $1,495,000 and the entire house can be had for $2,590,000 instead of $2,995,000. Interested?

Only a drop in the bucket! We need to go much much lower until ir starts to draw attention. The stupid era is over!

I actually don't think this is such an atrocity. I'm being serious. That siad, I haven't seen floorplans and that kitchen pic looks pretty low end but that's a different discussion.

From the front it's still a beauty. i suspect its the people living on the side street that are having the problems. But once I pull my car into the garage, that's gone!!!

Where are our srchitecture buffs? I need someone to define for me what a "bidet" window is. LOL

I can see where someone like Rob, who obv hasn't been following this long and sad story, could wonder whats wrong here. The perspective in the righthand foto makes it look like the addition is an entirely seperate building in the bkground.

This is a hard sell. People who love old houses do not want to move in to somethig that has been re-muddled to the extent that it is now known far and wide as "the atrocity". On the other hand people who don't care about old houses would probably prefer a brand-new building with no stoop and a garage. The location is prime so perhaps that will trump all else. I think one could improve this for a couple of hundred thou, at least to the extent it would no longer be "the atrocity" building.
By the way, these images are flattering. In real life the blocky addition rises out of the top of the house like an alien life form ripping through the cranium of an unlucky astronaut in any one of many Sigourney Weaver movies.

By the way Rob, I know you have become a popular poster here, but your clueless adolescent schtick is getting on my nerves.

Posted by: sam at January 9, 2009 11:17 AM

wow- there's a concept, sam. I'm filing it with the other imagery- the hunchback of Notre Dame, buffaloes humping deer,a black hole enveloping earth, various references to buildings doing interesting sex acts :-)

Posted by: bxgrl at January 9, 2009 11:18 AM

cover that addition with vines. could work depending on the cladding.

Posted by: bowl of dicks at January 9, 2009 11:18 AM

sam- you can always skip over his posts.

vines would help. Maybe add some architectural detailing to make it a little more consistent with the house?

bowl of dicks...you've turned into an interesting poster with a lot to add here since your debut with that login name. I remember that exchange very well!!! LOL

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 9, 2009 11:22 AM

Rob...go to some of the links, you'll see the atrocity from the side view.

DIBS > thank you! and yes, LOL > not too many people remember.

Posted by: bowl of dicks at January 9, 2009 11:32 AM

ahhh okay. i did totally think that was another building in the background!

Does anyone know what happened to the lower duplex? I have walked by several times, and the lights appear to be on and it seems that someone may have painted. I am assuming, based on the fact that the entire building is still for sale, that this apartment has been rented and not sold. Anyone know anything?

Posted by: Crrllgrdngrl at January 9, 2009 11:41 AM

I like the idea of covering the addition with poison ivy.

remember the old song: you'll need an ocean of calamine lotion...poison Ivyyyyyy....

Posted by: sam at January 9, 2009 12:03 PM

Bottom unit has been rented out, thats why only the top and full package are on the market still.

Posted by: twc at January 9, 2009 12:09 PM

at night when you're asleepin', Poison Ivy comes a creepin' aaahround-ound, around.

Like some folk I used to know (shiver).

Posted by: bxgrl at January 9, 2009 12:24 PM

Poison I veeeeeee, poison I veeeeee......

Measles make you bumpy
And mumps'll make you lumpy
And chicken pox'll make you jump and twitch

Posted by: bxgrl at January 9, 2009 12:37 PM

this sddition makes me jump and twitch. Poison ivy should definitely be the theme song of the atrocity building.

Posted by: sam at January 9, 2009 12:41 PM

Not. Low. Enough.

A whooping cough will fool you, a common cold will cool you, but poison ivy boy will make you itch...

Posted by: wasder at January 9, 2009 1:31 PM

You guys are a riot! now I will not get the poison ivy song out of my head all day!

Posted by: sam at January 9, 2009 1:51 PM

and whose fault is that?? I ask you

Posted by: bxgrl at January 9, 2009 2:14 PM

The upper duplex is advertised for rent also:

http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/fee/971986338.html

It seems Mr. Austin Nagle is really scrambling to make some sort of money off of this POS. If someone rents this, they'd better be prepared to get kicked out if he's able to sell it. That's what he did to the tenants in his 120 3rd Pl. building (that he also can't sell now).

When you take 1/4 of an apartment and glue it onto a brownstone it is an atrocity.

Posted by: Boerum Hill at January 9, 2009 2:55 PM

at least austin nagle finally took of his embarrassingly self aggrandizing entry on wikipedia...
