Brooklynites, Lend Us Your Ears (and Eyes)
No, we don't need your money, but we do need your input. As you may have noticed, we've been blogging solo in the new year to reflect the new austerity that is upon us. (Although ads are down like everywhere else, last week was the biggest traffic week ever so it's not all doom and gloom around here!) And while we're actually pleased with the regained editorial control, the shift does limit our mobility (i.e. we're chained to our computer). Therefore, more than ever, we need readers to be our eyes and ears on the streets. So if you're a regular and you happen to own a digital camera, we'd be forever grateful if you'd try carrying it around with you and snapping developments, storefronts and other curiosities for us. As always, you can opt for credit or anonymity.
Thanks,
Mr. B

I sent in a tip about a new store last week on 7th Avenue.

"and other curiosities for us"
Oh, Mr. B...you will be flooded with nonsense now!

If I hadn't left my digital cam in a taxi several months ago, I'd have already flooded the flickr group with shots. :\
Soon as I get a new one, I'll start doing so!

cwb,
better to send the blog-worthy scoops directly to us and pretty pictures straight to flickr.
thanks

You don't even need a digital camera. Film, a one hour lab, and a CD of the images, or a scan of the 4 X 6 print works as well. Or you can shoot B&W film, develop the negatives yourself, and scan them, which is what I do for online stuff.[I make my REAL prints prints in the darkroom, but that's another story].

Brownstoner - Yep, I understand. Tips via email, pics via flickr.
Bob Marvin - Sure, but I'd still need a camera for that, which I don't have. :)

Holgas are cheap cwbuecheler--they're fun too.

You go, Bob Marvin!

Still using a darkroom? You've gotta be the coolest poster on here by far.
Posted by: dittoburg at January 13, 2009 12:42 PM
Bob, do you have a darkroom in your basement? I have a cellar room that would be perfect for that.

Another interview with Catsimatidis would be great right now. Ask him to justify idling the dirt piles along Myrtle while still burning cash ripping off and litigating Trader Joe's trademark rights and turning around defunct oil companies in Oklahmoma.

I think rh also uses a darkroom--in any case, there are still quite a few of us (or at least enough to keep Ilford in business).

Frederick Law Homestead,
No, my darkroom in my ground floor laundry room, although I'd like to move it to the cellar some day. I'm sure that would make my wife happy.

"[I make my REAL prints prints in the darkroom, but that's another story]."
I agree, very cool. I haven't stuck prints into the "stop bath" in years.

Man, I'm glad I put my time in the darkroom, but sure glad I don't any more. Nothing like printing to my Epson 4000 while my hands are dry and Itunes is playing.

Mr. B, you might consider no longer requiring registration on the site. The quality and quantity of dialogue on the site has dropped considerably with registration. No longer requiring registration would also give you an advantage over (what one might perceive to be) competing blogs.
Just sayin'....

To each his own Denton. To me, ink jet prints are, while often beautiful, are akin to posters. They're the same every time they're printed (although the initial work in PhotoShop is certainly comparable to darkroom work). The silver prints I make in the darkroom are subtly different each time (IMO a plus when I'm printing my own negatives, but a reason why I don't want to print for others). Ansel Adams wrote "The negative is comparable to the composer's score and the print to its performance. Each performance differs in subtle ways." That's hard to achieve by making multiple inkjet prints.

I kind of agree with white-n-proud, I thought the daily open thread might water down the 15 or so regulars from going off topic on regular threads, but the same chit chat, inside joking rib poking permeates all threads, making it a quick skim through threads when i do go on. (I know, if dont like it dont read it, and I dont) I am still a fan, dont get me wrong, but I just dont stay on as long or comment as much as I used to. Not complaining, just commenting.

Bob Marvin--you are a man after my own heart on this one. I am still a film photographer through and through.

"No, we don't need your money, but we do need your input."
Here is my input. Shut this blog down! The Mutant Asset Bubble is over!
"As you may have noticed, we've been blogging solo in the new year to reflect the new austerity that is upon us."
Transitlation: I'm broke and I can't pay anyone to keep the lies of the MAB going..
"Therefore, more than ever, we need readers to be our eyes and ears on the streets."
Please be a snitch for us, tell on Black people selling drugs and stealing gates..
" So if you're a regular and you happen to own a digital camera, we'd be forever grateful if you'd try carrying it around with you and snapping developments, storefronts and other curiosities for us."
Yeah, you can watch the bullet come thru the lens finder to your brain..
"Mr. B, you might consider no longer requiring registration on the site."

Hey Dumbass! Why don't you print that slogan on a shirt and wear it around Crown Heights! I bet the locals will get a kick out of it while they are kicking you in your Ass!
